1 Thinking of working for one of the country s leading mental health and learning disability charities? St Andrew s the 1st Teaching Hospital outside the NHS. To find out more about our learning environment, go to:
2 Welcome Dear colleague, Welcome to St Andrew s and thank you for taking an interest in our services. As a charitable provider of NHS funded care, nursing at St Andrew s is uniquely placed to provide recoveryfocused care in a way that is both value based and innovative. Our unique patient group means that we have clinical pathways for complex needs, requiring a high level of nursing expertise. A St Andrew s nurse provides compassionate, safe and holistic nursing and will be supported to develop their skills and professional practice. Working collaboratively with patients, families and colleagues our nurses are able to provide effective clinical leadership and plan and implement recovery-focused care. We have five main specialist pathways, mental health, learning disability, autism, neuropsychiatry and personality disorder and within those we have locked, low secure and medium secure provision. It s important to have the right staff working with us, and that you can work to ensure you make a difference to improving the individual and overall patient experience. By reading on you will find a description of nursing within each specialist pathway, together with the qualities and skills we are looking for. All nurses are supported, supervised and developed in practice, either through our Charity-wide competencybased preceptorship programme or our extensive learning and development prospectus. We are also delighted to be able to provide further opportunities to undergo top-up - degree and masters level education. I do hope that you take the time to look carefully at our services and think about where your experience, skills and passion would best suit our needs and your career aspirations. We encourage you to come on an informal visit and see our services for yourself. I am sure you will be impressed by the quality of our environments and the enthusiasm of staff. Please feel free to contact our Nursing Recruitment Team by calling or ing: nurses@standrew.co.uk with any further queries. With my best wishes, Ann Jackson Director of Nursing

We are committed to the Chief Nursing Officer s 6 C s and we have embedded these within our new Nursing Practice Standards. We have worked with patients and staff to identify the Patient Rights and the nursing Always Actions to describe how care will be recovery-focused and compassionate. Our nurses are skilled and competent, they communicate effectively with patients, carers and colleagues; have the courage to stand up and speak out for what is right, and are proud of their profession and committed to providing the very best care. 5 We are leaders in specialist care The UK s leading charity providing specialist NHS care As a Charity we are a truly unique organisation and one that works in partnership with the NHS. We choose the best possible approach to care for our patients and are able to design and implement our own pathways and work closely with our multidisciplinary teams (MDT) within our specialist services. We offer very specialist care to vulnerable people in our Men s services We provide tailored care pathways for mental health disorder, learning disabilities and autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) in superb facilities with dedicated resources. Nurses in our Men s service are in a privileged position and spend time engaging with patients and working with them to help them along their recovery journey. Women s services Nurses provide inpatient care for women on specialist pathways through medium secure to supported hostel living. Care provided within the service is patient centred and nurses are champions in supporting and promoting patient engagement. Adolescent services Our national service for young people is the largest of its kind in the UK, leading the field in complex mental health, neurodevelopmental needs and autistic spectrum disorder. Our nurses are key to our multidisciplinary approach to assessment and treatment to assist our patients through our comprehensive care pathway. We offer high quality specialist care to those with mental health needs and learning disabilities.
6 Neuropsychiatry / brain injury services For over 34 years our National Brain Injury Centre (NBIC) has been developing and refining our evidence-based practice and our innovative neurobehavioural approach. Nurses are proud to deliver services for men, women and adolescents focused on enabling hope, recovery and independence. PICU services (psychiatric intensive care units) Our gender specific PICU services provide high quality, psychiatric intensive care in clinically safe and supportive environments. Main tasks include rapid assessment and stabilising patients who are experiencing a crisis. Treatment programmes are developed in recognition of each patient s strengths, needs and risks, with specific emphasis on treatment and starting the recovery process. As well as our original Northamptonshire site we also have three regional locations Birmingham In Birmingham we offer a specialist service that provides a care pathway across medium and low secure units with a strong emphasis on patient focus and active rehabilitation. Our nurses are provided with a friendly supportive environment to develop skills, competences and expertise. Essex In Essex we provide a low secure environment, offering a specialist pathway for men and women who have complex needs. Our nurses provide recovery focused care in a supportive environment that offers both academic and skills based development. Nottinghamshire As nurses in Nottinghamshire we are in a very privileged position of caring for patients with learning disabilities and autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) that are often at a real low point in their life. You will demonstrate care, commitment and a willingness to work with what could be described as a complex patient population. Paul Williamson, Deputy Ward Manager, said: St Andrew s has offered me so many amazing opportunities to develop and progress.
7 Our staff are key to our success We work hard to ensure that all of our staff are given the right support, guidance and opportunities. Some of the staff benefits we offer include Healthcare Cash Plan Run by Simply Health, you can receive money back on essential healthcare costs including dental and optical bills, therapy treatments and consultations.
