3 This document provides technical guidance for configuring the IPitomy IP1100 and IP1200+ IP PBX appliances to properly interface to and interoperate with Integra SIP Solutions trunks. It is not intended to serve as a step-by-step configuration guide. The goal of this document is to ensure that when properly configured the IPitomy IP PBX will interoperate with Integra s SIP-based equipment and network. In order to establish a configuration and compatibility baseline, Table 1 below shows the software and/or firmware versions used for testing and evaluation in the Integra Lab. The UA model prescribes that the SIP handoff to the customer s IP PBX is on Port 2 of the Ethernet Access Device or EAD. This configuration ensures proper SIP call handling between the customer-supplied IP PBX platform and the Integra equipment and network. For this testing, the beginning of the PSTN does not matter; as in to and out of the IP PBX are the more important considerations. 1

4 It is presumed that there is direct knowledge and expertise or that knowledge and expertise is readily available for the IPitomy IP PBX appliance. Therefore, this section contains the data fill for the various configuration pages when using the IPitomy IP PBX Administrator Guide. The configuration is addressed below in basic navigation-menu order. There is no consideration given to element/object dependencies or provisioning hierarchy. The information provided is strictly the data fill needed for interoperation. Finally, this document only covers the IP PBX configuration from the SIP trunk side to and from Integra. There is no discussion about internal (LAN) IP addressing or routing; extension configuration; internal call routing, classes of service, and the like. Those items vary widely by customer deployment. The following is a mini legend of the configuration parameters that are detailed within this document. Mandatory Integra Provided Entry The red outline boxes indicate that the information is mandatory as provided by Integra. This includes specific SIP settings, data fill, as well as detailed account information as provided by Integra. Optional Customer Defined Entry The blue outline boxes signify that the customer selects the desired provisioning data fill. Examples include: private IP addresses and user-friendly object names for easier provisioning. 2

5 Section 1: Initial IPitomy IP PBX Connection & Login Connect the selected personal computer (via an appropriate Ethernet cable) to the same local area network (LAN) that contains the IPitomy IP PBX appliance. Please consult IPitomy IP PBX Administrator Guide for the location of the appropriate LAN port on the specific hardware deployed (if a direct physical connection [Layer 1] is desired). This initial process (pre-provisioning if you will) uses the web browser of choice to reach out to the IPitomy IP PBX appliance. The URL is shown below. Connect to For example: The default IP Address of the IPitomy IP PBX appliance is Important Note: The IPitomy IP PBX Administrator Guide, page 20, does not contain the complete information needed to successfully gain access to the PBX. The image from the document below shows that the /ippbx directory path is missing from the PBX URL. If just the IP Address of the PBX is entered, a completely blank page is displayed in the web browser. 3

6 As shown in the image below, the default parameters are as follows: 1. URL: 2. User Name: pbxadmin 3. Password: ipitomy After entering the above three items in the ADMIN LOGIN section, press the Login button to continue. Prior to make any changes in the IPitomy IP PBX, it is recommended that a database backup be saved. This will preserve the current PBX settings and allow a fall back if necessary. This is accomplished by navigating to and expanding the PBX Setup section of the menu tree. Select the Database menu item. This is shown outlined in blue below. 4

7 Enter an easy to remember and/or identify Description in that field. Finally, select and press the Create button to save the pre-configuration database. Section 2: IPitomy IP PBX Configuration If this is a new IPitomy PBX install, it is highly recommended that the default administrator User Name (pbxadmin) and/or Password (ipitomy) be changed. This is accomplished by navigating to and expanding the PBX Setup section of the menu tree. Select the General menu item. This is shown outlined in blue below. The fields involved in the recommended changes are shown outlined in blue below. Next, scroll down to the bottom of the page; select and press the Save Changes button. This is shown outlined in red below. If it is desired to implement this change immediately, it is necessary to select and press the 5

8 Apply Changes link in the upper right portion of this page. This is shown outlined in red in the image on the following page. Navigate to and expand the System section of the menu tree. Select the Networking menu item. This is shown outlined in red in the image below. In the top left drop down menu, change DHCP to Static IP as shown outlined in red in the image below. Next, enter the IP Address of the PBX; Subnet Mask; and Default Gateway. In most cases, Integra will provide the NAT and SIP transparent proxy therefore this will be private, non-routable IP space. In this example, the PBX IP Address is and the Subnet Mask is The Default Gateway IP Address will be provided by Integra. In this example, was used. This is shown outlined in red in the image above. Finally, select and press Save Changes to place these changes in the queue to be applied to the PBX. This is shown outlined in red in the image above. 6

9 Navigate to and expand the Providers section of the menu tree. Select the SIP Providers menu item. This is shown outlined in red in the image below. The two images below are screen captures of the default settings when adding a new SIP Provider. Data fill and option selection is shown in Table 2 below the images. 7

10 Table 2 below is a field-by-field detail of the data fill and option selections to be used when adding a new SIP Provider. Enter the DID numbers provided by Integra to the Phone Numbers text box as shown below, outlined in red. As shown, the Default Destination will typically be set to a value of: None (as outlined in blue below). Finally, select and press Save Changes to place these changes in the queue to be applied to the PBX. This is shown outlined in red in the image above. 9

12 Navigate to and expand the Call Routing section of the menu tree. Select the Outgoing menu item. This is shown outlined in red in the image below. Confirm each of the default outbound call routes and any custom outbound call routes specify the new Integra SIP trunk as part of the desired route. The order of outbound call routing is a customer decision. The customer desired data fill in the Name field for the New SIP Provider page will be present in the list of available outbound routes. After any necessary changes are made for each route (shown outlined in red above), scroll down to the bottom of the page; select and press the Save Changes button. This is shown outlined in red below. 10

13 Navigate to and expand the PBX Setup section of the menu tree. Select the SIP menu item. This is shown outlined in red in the image below. Next, select the Advanced link on the SIP Networking Settings page. This is shown outlined in red in the image below. 11

This is shown outlined in red below. When the above configuration steps are completed and the configuration saved, it is then necessary to apply the changed to the PBX. Select and press the Apply Changes link in the upper right portion of any page. This is shown outlined in red in the image on the following page. 15

18 As a final configuration step, it is highly recommended that a database backup be saved. This will preserve the current PBX settings which have just been completed. This is accomplished by navigating to and expanding the PBX Setup section of the menu tree. Select the Database menu item. This is shown outlined in blue below. Enter an easy to remember and/or identify Description in that field. Finally, select and press the Create button to save the pre-configuration database. This concludes the configuration steps for the IPitomy IP PBX appliance. 16

19 To check the status of the new SIP trunk to Integra, navigate to and expand the Reporting section of the menu tree. Select the Monitoring menu item. This is shown outlined in red in the image below. The status of the SIP trunk is shown outlined in blue. 17

20 Comprehensive troubleshooting of a SIP Solutions trunk that does not properly authenticate and register is not part of this configuration document. However, experience has shown that there is a reasonable list of basic Items to Check as part of the nominal customer turn up process. Traditionally, one or more of the following steps of confirmation and basic troubleshooting will yield the location of any problem(s) with the exchange of SIP messaging. Confirming the SIP Register message within the Integra s BrixWorks monitoring system generally provides a wealth of information on the nature of the issue; including any possible improper configuration. Therefore, it is appropriate to initiate that step only after the initial customer site configuration confirmation and connectivity testing has been completed (Steps 1-7 inclusive). This section represents a logical troubleshooting methodology from the customer location to the Metaswitch Call Feature Server. Items to Check (Customer Side) 01. Confirm that the IPitomy IP PBX has the WAN port properly connected to Adtran demarcation device s LAN Ethernet port (typically, eth 0/0 ) with active LED illuminated. 02. Confirm the IP PBX has the proper WAN port TCP/IP interface configuration (IP address, Subnet mask, Default gateway, and Primary and Secondary DNS server). 03. Confirm the IP PBX can ping the LAN gateway IP address (inside) of the Adtran demarcation device at the customer site. 04. Confirm the IP PBX can ping the WAN IP (outside) address of the Adtran demarcation device at the customer site. 05. Confirm the IP PBX can resolve, ping, and if necessary, trace route to the FQDN (provided by Integra) of the Metaswitch Call Agent serving the customer site. 06. Confirm with Integra that the SIP account information provided for the IP PBX SIP Provider data fill configuration (FQDN, Username, Password, etc.) is correct. 07. Confirm that the information provided by Integra is properly entered in the IP PBX. 18

21 Items to Check (Integra Side) 08. Confirm with Integra that they can see the SIP Register messages from the IP PBX within the BrixWorks call monitoring system. 09. Confirm with Integra that they can ping and, if necessary, trace route to the WAN IP (outside) address of the Adtran demarcation device at the customer site. 10. Confirm with Integra that they can ping and, if necessary, trace route to the LAN IP (inside) address of the Adtran demarcation device at the customer site. 11. Confirm with Integra that they can ping the WAN IP address of the IP PBX appliance from within the Adtran demarcation device at the customer site. 12. Confirm with Integra that they can resolve, ping, and, if necessary, trace route from within the Adtran demarcation device to the FQDN of the Metaswitch Call Agent serving the customer site. 19
