5 Welcome from the Chair of the Board of Trustees Originally founded and known as Cornerstone College, Logos European College draws Students from various backgrounds and nationalities across the World. Working with our partners in both the United States and Europe, the College is committed to effective delivery and maintaining of high educational standards that can stand up to rigorous external scrutiny, and to responding robustly to the requirements of regulatory bodies. With a visionary mandate going as far back as 1994, LEC is a Christian Institution that was established purposely for the growing number of people who sought an unadulterated Christian Education qualification, which was underpinned by Christian Philosophy. The Courses and integrated Modules have been developed and designed to take account of the professional pressures and other commitments of our Students. Whether in a conventional classroom or compressed programme of study or distance learning, LEC is able to cater for and accommodate your educational needs and provide you with an exciting learning experience. The Courses we offer will equip you to serve the body of Christ wherever you are based. Our Courses are flexible, practical and spiritually alive as well as leading to Degree qualifications and are intended for ecclesiastical purposes rather than professional or secular. The delivery of Courses can be by a variety of methods dependent upon your situation. Opportunities exist for Study Programmes to be conducted via monthly lectures in our College at Dalgety Bay, Fife, or by Distance Learning in your home in UK. The important thing is that we find what works best for you. 9 College History Logos European College has been raised up to fulfil a vision to help the wider Church train its people to prepare for the Call of God in individual lives. The original foundation for Logos European College has come out of almost a decade of similar work under the name of Cornerstone College. The concept that a local church could operate a College Level Training Facility with Degree bearing qualifications is still an unusual concept to the British Church but has been established for many decades in the USA. Logos European College has used this same concept to raise up Bible Colleges in the UK and Eastern Europe. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10 5

10 Studying with Us What will it be like to study at Logos European College? For each subject the approach is the same. At the start of each new Unit you will be issued with a specification for the subject (which gives details of what it covers), the reading list, and the Written Response requirement. The subject textbooks would also be issued - the cost of which is already included in the Course Fees. The lecture is given in a one day session. The Students then have one month to complete their assignments. This can be done either by working at home or by attending Tutorial Sessions at the College where the Written Response can be completed. The key point to remember is to always take care to fully understand and address the Set Question. If you do that - you will do well. Each Undergraduate Unit usually requires a Written Response of approximately 1000 words. Many Students find that once they are involved in a subject which deeply interests them they are able to do this easily. There are also short book-overviews to be completed for each subject which simply asks the Student to record their thoughts about the textbooks. Once completed the assignments will be marked and detailed feedback given on what was done well and what can be improved upon. When the passmark is achieved the Student has earned 3 Semester Credit Hours (SCH) towards their final qualification (some Units can earn 6SCH) Students who are UK distance learning follow exactly the same procedure but all the paperwork and books will be posted out to them. Completed assignments can be posted, ed or handed in to the College. Whether on Campus, or studying fully home based, the College Tutors are always available to help - and Students are actively encouraged to phone or the College at any point during their Course for help, advice and guidance. Live tutorial by Skype can be arranged. Learning at LEC will be challenging and enjoyable and you will be studying along with others who are keen to learn, to share and to help each other. It is not only what you learn at LEC that will help you but also the people you meet and the friends you make - bringing you fresh ideas and vision for your future. 6

Please contact Anyone can request an Evaluation of Prior Learning before entry into a Study Programme which will allow each person to know the total potential cost of their Degree. This is recommended for anyone who thinks they may have partial Credit towards a Bachelor Degree which can significantly reduce the overall cost of the Degree for the Student. All Graduation Fees are included in the above figures. Additional cost would be the hire cost for a cap and gown for the final Degree Graduation Ceremony. 8

14 Compressed Courses The new Compressed Courses in Biblical Studies are intended to take the Student through a fast track journey to understanding and appreciating the main components and foundation of the Christian faith. In addition it will enable the Student to develop a sound knowledge of the Word and to be well grounded in the major doctrines of the Christian Faith, and so possess uncommon ability to study, correctly interpret and apply the Word, for both personal development and to positively impact others around them. The three Compressed Courses are: Systematic Theology Disciplines and Modules covered will include: Doctrine of God Christology (The Person of Christ) Pneumatology (The Person of the Holy Spirit) Soteriology (The Doctrine of Salvation) Hermeneutics Christian Discipleship (Foundation) Disciplines and Modules covered will include: Discipleship in the New Testament Prayer and Warfare Prayer Worship Principles Evangelism and Missions Church Government and Christian Leadership Disciplines and Modules covered will include: Ecclesiology 1 (Church Government) Leadership Principles Ecclesiology 2 (Church Government) The Courses are intended to last for a period of 12 weeks through lectures and personal study. Each module within the Courses will be assessed on the basis of the format already developed and applied to all Logos European College s major disciplines in Biblical and Religious Education. 10

15 Certificate Year The standard Courses we offer at Logos European College are either Certificate in Biblical Studies Certificate in Pastoral Ministry Certificate in Jewish Studies The Certificate provides the Student with a good foundational training in a range of topics as we want to make sure we cover the basic topics on which later subjects build. It can either be a stand alone Course or the first year of a Three Year Degree Course. The Student either attends the College for the monthly lecture and completes the course work during the month in their own home or can opt to study by distance learning and receive the lecture package in CD format. Distance learners in UK have up to 2 months to complete each Unit. To obtain a Certificate the student must obtain 30 credits (30 SCH) with most Units providing 3 SCH. Certificates are awarded by Logos European College. Diploma Year The standard Courses we offer at Logos European College are either Diploma in Biblical Studies Diploma in Pastoral Ministry Diploma in Jewish Studies Those wishing to study towards a Diploma in Biblical Studies must already hold a Certificate in Biblical studies from LEC or an equivalent qualification. This Course builds on the foundation laid down on the Certificate Course and brings in more complex and challenging topics which test the Students thinking and assumptions and builds understanding of the Word of God and the world in which we live. The Student either attends the College for the monthly lecture and completes the Course work during the month in their own home or can opt to study by distance learning and receive the lecture package in CD format with time factors as the Certificate Course To obtain a Diploma the Student must obtain a further 30 credits (30 SCH) bringing their total credits to 60 SCH. Diplomas are awarded by Logos European College. 11

16 Bachelor Degree We offer two types of Degree Courses: For those with the general education component Bachelor of Religious Arts in Biblical Studies Bachelor of Religious Arts in Pastoral Ministry Bachelor of Religious Arts in Jewish Studies And for those without the general education component we offer Bachelor of Biblical Studies Bachelor of Pastoral Ministry Bachelor of Jewish Studies Prior to the final year an evaluation of Prior Learning and any other submissions is made, and a Personal Study Programme based on the number of Courses required to complete the Bachelor Degree is then generated for each student. To obtain the Bachelor of Religious Arts Degree the student must obtain a further 60 credits (60 SCH) made up of Prior Learning and Life Experience Credits and further Courses bringing them to a total of 120 SCH. As part of the final year Course we also have a number of Units for double Credit (6 SCH), one of which is usually the last Unit to be completed, which is the Bachelor Degree Project. This is where the Student identifies a subject in which they are interested and undertakes an agreed Project of either academic or practical significance. This guarantees that the Degree you obtain will be practical and relevant to your needs and interests. Our Degrees are awarded by Logos Christian College and Graduate School, Jacksonville, Florida, USA. 12

17 Master Degree Logos European College offer Master Degree Programmes building on the learning from the Bachelor Degree with studies in more depth at Biblical subjects and themes. We provide a Master Degree at three levels of Credit i.e. 45 SCH, 60 SCH and 90 SCH. Dependant on the intended purpose for the Degree, this Degree can be used as either a linking Degree to a Doctoral Qualification, or an end result in itself. Master Degree Courses are also open to those who have obtained their Bachelor Degree in other Colleges. It is our normal practice to make an individual offer to enquirers after assessing their Credit standing and their intended application for the Degree. Doctoral Degree Doctoral Courses are designed for holders of a Master Degree to progress further in their speciality subjects and interests. Each Doctoral Programme is offered after assessment of individual current Credit standing and may be a combination of graduate Courses and a main Dissertation following research of the subject matter, or an agreed practicum, research and Dissertation. Doctoral Degrees are usually at 2 levels of Credit SCH total for Doctor of Ministry and 300 SCH for Doctor of Religious Philosophy. Please contact Logos House for more details. 13

18 Study Options The essence of non traditional Christian Education is the flexibility and variety of ways of delivering the material to suit the individual s circumstances. LEC is committed to making every effort to address the needs of the individual in a range of methods of delivery. Distance Learning Teaching materials and guidelines are made available to the Student in their home and family setting and they work at an agreed pace with telephone, or Skype access to Tutors. Local Seminar Day, weekend or Short Course Seminars can be arranged with LEC Staff bringing a College Course to your own Church. Please contact Logos House for more details. Credit ALL the above methods can enable the Student to gain Credit towards any future Degree Programmes. My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the Treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 19 UK Based Home Study DISTANCE LEARNING OPTIONS Logos European College is a non-traditional College at the forefront of part time Christian Education and is constantly developing Courses and Teaching Methods to offer their Students effective ways of study whilst in their home and family surroundings. Students opting for this mode of study need to be self motivated and have access to a quiet place (or a quiet time in the day) to listen to recordings of lectures and complete the assignments. Ideally Students should have access to a typewriter, word processor or computer. Course Text Books are supplied with each Unit. The pace of study per Course is set by the individual who is encouraged to plan the pace. Advice about this is available from the College. In the distance learning mode the cost of CDs and mailing out Course Material is included in the Course Fee. Tutorial cover is by telephone, or Skype by arrangement. 15

20 Next Steps So now you have read this Prospectus - what are your expectations of Logos European College? Considering Next Steps some final points are worth clarifying: There is no upper age limit but Students should be 18 years old or over so that they have completed at least a Secondary Education. You need to be sure you are able to afford the Course Fees. We operate a staged payment option by monthly Standing Order to allow Students to make small monthly payments instead of one large annual amount. Students from all locations and walks of life are welcome. You will need to consider your academic ability - but the main concern is enthusiasm for God s Word. We have had many Students with little previous higher education who performed well at LEC. This is both because they enjoyed their subjects and also because people are often capable of far more than they realise. We would encourage you to consider prayerfully God s guidance for your learning and not run ahead or lag behind! If you require any clarification please contact us and we will help you all we can. 21 Application With this Prospectus you should find two forms: 1. LEC Course Application Form R1 If you would like to study with us please complete this form and post it to us at Logos House. Once we have received it and discussed the Course content with you, you will be able to start your Course at a suitable entry point. 2. Evaluation of Credit for Prior Learning Qualifications R3 To find out at any stage what your Course Credit would be for previous and current Christian study and service please complete the attached form as fully as possible. Once we have it we will complete an assessment for you indicating how many Courses you would have to complete to gain a Degree with us and hence what it would cost. Requesting this information in no way obliges you to begin a Course with us. It is a service we offer to help you to understand the possibilities of using your experience towards a qualification.
