Preferred Citation [Identification of item], American Academy of Pain management records (Manuscript collection 125). Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library, History & Special Collections Division, University of California, Los Angeles. UCLA Catalog Record ID UCLA Catalog Record ID: Agency History The American, established in 1988 by Richard S. Weiner, is a nonprofit credentialing organization providing several different levels of certification to practitioners in all areas of pain management. Certification by AAPM is based on education, experience, and, since 1992, a written examination. Accredited individuals and programs abide by the Academy's code of professional conduct and patient bill of rights, participate in continuing education, and must be recertified every four years. AAPM hosts an annual conference for its members. Scope and Content The Records of the American are divided into two series, Organizations and Administrative. Both series have been maintained in the order in which they were received. The Organizations Series ( ) is organized in loose alphabetical order by folder title, which generally contains the name of a particular organization with which AAPM has had correspondence. The Administrative Series ( ) is loosely organized by topic. Any information in the container listing not on the original label (i.e., information culled from folder contents by the processer) is indicated in square brackets, e.g., [Correspondence]. Folders originally marked with colored dot stickers are noted as such in brackets, e.g., [two red dots]. Access Points American. Weiner, Richard S. Pain. (MeSH) Organizations Scope and Content Note The Organizations series represents correspondence and transactions between the American and various pain-related organizations, journals, and advertisers. Administrative Scope and Content Note The Administrative series represents the business side of the AAPM: advertising, publishing, lobbying, legal matters, etc. Organizations Box 1, Folder 1 Other Organizations, Contact with (3), [ ].
