2 2 3 Danube University Krems The University for Continuing Education Danube University Krems is the university for continuing education. Its courses are specifically oriented towards the needs of working professionals. The university offers exclusive master's programmes and short certificate programmes in five areas of study. Serving more than 8,500 students and with 17,000 graduates from 90 countries, it is one of the leading providers of further education courses in Europe. Danube University Krems was founded in 1994 and combines many years of experience in postgraduate university education with innovation and the highest quality standards in research and teaching. Students with Professional Experience Students of Danube University Krems have very high expectations. They have several years of professional experience and usually a higher educational degree (university, higher education college or academy). At Danube University Krems, students prepare themselves for the next step in their career. They update their knowledge, acquire new skills, and develop their personal abilities. Innovative and Market-oriented Courses Danube University Krems is one of the pioneering institutions in Europe in the field of university-based advanced education and is a specialised institution in the sector of lifelong learning. In teaching and research, the university focuses on the social, organisational and technical challenges of current times. The University for Continuing Education is developing innovative market- and client-oriented courses on an ongoing basis and is specifically focused on interdisciplinary cross-linking and future-oriented special sectors: it offers courses that combine music and management, education and new media, or law and social sciences. Highest quality standards, a scientific, practical approach, and the use of innovative teaching and learning methods are part of all courses offered at Danube University Krems.
3 Application-oriented Research Danube University Krems is devoted to transferable and applicationoriented research in special areas such as lifelong learning, management and economics, culture and media, biomedical technology, biopsychosocial health, regenerative and evidence-based medicine, as well as construction and environment. Scientific conclusions constitute the basis of practice-oriented teaching at the University for Continuing Education. The university's research efforts permit close collaboration with companies and other public institutions. The three faculties of the university conduct research that extends beyond the confines of their respective specialties. Unique Learning Environment Danube University Krems is located 80 kilometres from Vienna in one of the most beautiful cultural landscapes of Europe, known as the Wachau. It has been declared a world heritage site by the UNESCO. The modern adaptation of a former tobacco factory in Stein, a characteristic industrial building dating back to the start of the 20th century, and the new premises at Campus Krems offer students and teachers an open and motivating environment that promotes innovation.
4 4 5 > With its Center for Contemporary Music, the Danube University Krems provides an international centre of excellence for current and future challenges in the field of music business and music communication. Emphasis in teaching and research is placed on linking music and economics, aspects of contemporary music communication, legal and medial framework conditions for the production, distribution and reception of music, as well as on the demands of the international music industry. With its range of postgraduate studies, the Center for Contemporary Music offers continuing education for a number of professional occupations and international career paths within the music industry. Many musicians today are not only active as creative artists but also as producers and distributors of their music. They have to take on management tasks, navigate the marketing of their music, undertake professional media activities and strategically plan their careers. The digitalisation of music and the globalisation of music creation have radically changed the conditions for artistic production. Therefore, the traditional differentiation between creative artists, music promoters and music listeners is now being challenged by current market structures, changes in consumer behaviour as well as new patterns of reception. Consequently, the new occupational forms that come along with these developments are more differentiated and specialised. They require skills and competencies that can be acquired at the Center for Contemporary Music at Danube University Krems. The modular structure of our master and certificate course programmes enables both double degree students and working professionals to study while maintaining or building their careers, with the aim of enhancing professionalism, economic performance and employability. Collection Mailer / Strauss Archive Extensive collection of sheet music and documents of the life and body of work of Johann Strauss senior as well as his sons, Johann, Josef and Eduard at the Center for Contemporary Music. In the music business, the Strauss family has been known as one of the first entrepreneur dynasties. Information
