2 PURCHASE/ INSTALL DIGITAL ID 1. Go to VeriSign s website by clicking on the link below or copy/pasting it into your browser or you may go to Select Buy Now. 3. Select Microsoft. (Firefox and Safari browser users select Netscape) 2

3 4. This and the next step may not be necessary. If you receive the following warning at the top of your browser requesting the installation of the Microsoft Certificate Enrollment Control. Click on the message and select Run ActiveX Control. VERY IMPORTANT to do if this warning does pop up. 5. Select Run to install the ActiveX Control. 6. Complete the enrollment form. If you are using Vista as your operating system, you will need to go to Tools Internet Options Security Tab click on Trusted Sites and then click on Add. 3

6 Continuation of the enrollment form. It is recommended that you check the box for protection added to your private key. Select Accept if you agree to the subscriber agreement. 6

7 7. Confirm your account by selecting OK. 8. Select Yes if you trust the VeriSign website to install your digital ID. 9. Select Set Security Level button. 7

8 10. Select security level High and select Next. 11. Enter your password (a.k.a. private key) in the text boxes and then select Finish. 8

9 12. Select OK. 13. You will see a screen telling you to expect an to continue the process. 9

10 14. Go to your program to retrieve the message. Highlight the Digital ID PIN. Right click to bring up the short-cut menu and select Copy. Click on the hyperlink provided in the . 10

11 15. Click inside the text box for your Digital ID PIN and right click to bring up the short-cut menu and select Paste. Then select Submit. 16. Select Install. 11

12 17. Select Yes twice if you trust the VeriSign website to install your digital ID. You are finished. Proceed on to Page 13 to back up your Digital ID for use on additional computers. 12

13 EXPORT/BACK-UP DIGITAL ID 1. Launch your Internet Explorer browser (Version 7 illustrated). Select Tools on the tool bar and then select Internet Options. 2. Select the Content tab and then select Certificates. 13

14 3. Select the row with your digital certificate information and then select Export. 4. Select Next. 14

15 5. Select Yes, export the private key and then select Next. 6. Select Next. 15

16 7. Type in a password twice and select Next. Keep this password confidential. This will be needed every time you want to digitally sign your transcripts. 8. Select Browse. (You can name it VeriSign Digital ID and press enter and it automatically saves your digital certificate to your Desktop.) 16

17 9. Select the Desktop icon, type in a file name and select Save. 10. Select Next. 17

18 11. Select Finish. 12. Type in your Private Key (this will be the password created in the previous step). Select OK. 13. You should receive an alert box notifying you of a successful Digital ID exportation. Select OK. 14. Save the file to a floppy, flash drive or burn to a CD. For pdf-it customers this last step is OPTIONAL since a copy of your Digital ID will be stored on our server. 18

20 RESTORE/ INTALL DIGITAL ID FROM FILE These steps are only needed if you need to restore your digital id or would like to install it on more than one computer i.e. laptop. 1. Double click the file and launch the digital id/certificate import wizard. 2. Select Next. 20

21 3. Select Next. 4. Type in your password or private key. This will be the same password that was used when you created your digital id. Check both boxes and select Next. 21

23 7. Select Set Security Level. 8. Select High and then Next. 23

24 9. Create a new or use your same password or private key and select Finish. 10. Select OK. 11. Select OK. 24
