3 The Applications of Artificial Intelligence Lab (LAIA, in Italian) aims to provide with services and solutions based on advanced artificial intelligence techniques both the entire network of laboratories of the University and the market. The Department of Mathematics, hosting the LAIA, has an internationally acknowledged leadership in the area of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KRR) and Answer Set Programming (ASP), and coordinates the development of state-of-the-art software in the field. The LAIA relies on the strong expertise of the structure and has, as a primary objective, the goal of deploying reasoning and automated learning modules to be used both for decision support and as unsupervised decision units within intelligent systems. 1

4 EQUIPMENT: - Set of desktop PC with backup server, storage server and UPS; - Multicore server 40 CPU (NUMA architecture) + server 4 CPU (traditional architecture); - Wired and wireless network equipment; - Multitouch wall display + multitouch desktop display + multitouch smarttable + interactive board smartboard; - On-Board CPU for robots: On-Board Dual PC - Set of indoor wheels; - Robot equipped with camera and touchscreen for human-machine interaction; - Team of outdoor robots. 2

5 SERVICES - Human-machine interfaces and software systems for dealing with complex data, based on automated reasoning techniques. - Automated reasoning modules for human-machine interfaces and software systems. - Automated reasoning modules and unsupervised planning for settled and mobile surveillance and monitoring systems. - Enhancement of computational efficiency of automated reasoning systems on distributed and/or parallel computing resources. - Augmented visualization tools for multidimensional geographical data evolving through time. - Diagnosis, selection and proactive visualization of anomalies and factors of environmental criticalities over hydrological, hydraulic, geological and geotechnical data. - Videogames and robogames making use of computational intelligence techniques and simulation of automated and proactive decision mechanisms in unknown environments. - Intelligent self-diagnosis, planning and unsupervised decision modules for settled and mobile supervision and tracking systems (anticipation of catastrophic events, decentralized autonomous devices and robots). - Decision support and unsupervised reasoning systems over big data. 3

Goal: a framework, based on the "TETRA" communication network, aimed at the provision of advanced services such as emergency management, environmental control, mobility in urban areas, and other utilities typical of government operating in urban areas or over any region. Funding: Ministry of Education, PON funds. Period: January Jannuary "FRAME". Goal: a framework supporting and making efficient the process of taking advantage from business applications and business information databases, including unstructured and multimedia ones, in a framework of service composition. Funding: Ministry of Education, PON funds. Period: May June "IDEAS". Goal: an Integrated Environment for Development of Applications and IT and knowledge management solutions. Funding: Ministry of Productive Activities, FIT Funds. Period: January June
