11 Case Study: Large US Transit Agency Problem The braking systems were wearing out/failing prematurely on a recently procured bus build Impact The cost per mile and number of road calls went up New Bus attempted to file a fleet defect, but the OEM claimed the contract duty cycle for the brakes was exceeded (Braking Events) Solution AVM generated a report that showed the number of brake pedal presses per hour and per mile demonstrating that the buses were well within the agreed upon duty cycle in the bus contract

14 Case Study Problem The radiator was being clogged by debris pulled in from the road Impact The buses were overheating resulting in road calls The hostlers were instructed to power wash the radiators of very bus, every night resulting in overtime Solution AVM triggered an audible announcement when the bus was in the fuel lane indicating that the bus had been running hot that day and Maintenance Action was Necessary

15 Case Study Problem Ineffective preventative maintenance schedules for doors and wheelchairs based upon mileage Impact Road calls due to failures on doors and wheelchairs Wasted parts and labor by performing PMs too soon Solution AVM collected the number of times the wheelchair ramp was deployed and the door was opened. This resulted in effective PM schedules that reduced both road calls and waste

16 Case Study Problem DPF Differential Pressure Failures Impact Potentially clogged DPF Filters and Road Calls. AVM3 found several, DPF Differential Pressure Incorrect issues that, based on the code and description Solution AVM allowed the Engine OEM to help us complete a campaign that involved the preventative maintenance replacement of the main DPF harness. That prevented at least 5 road calls and an immeasurable amount of man hours.

17 Case Study: Large US Transit Agency Problem The bus had a road call due to a dragging brake. Impact The bus had operated all day long and the operator had reported no issues till the road call. Solution Used vehicle acceleration and deceleration profile to demonstrate the brake was dragging throughout the service day and was not reported until it was so hot it almost caught the bus on fire.

19 Case Study: Large Canadian System Problem A bus operator flipped a bus over on its side while operating the bus on a highway in a snow storm. Impact A new bus was heavily damaged and the operator stated that it was the snow storm with heavy winds that caused accident. Solution Vehicle location and speed information clearly demonstrated the operator was driving too fast for conditions and left the highway at over 21 MPH.
