This post provides an exciting developmental opportunity as part of a vibrant and dynamic team in one of the most successful schools in the country. We are looking for someone who is passionate about web design and the delivery of high quality end-user experiences through web technologies to work on the College s group of websites and Gateway, a secure online portal for students, parents and staff. 3 ST PAUL S CATHOLIC COLLEGE Web Designer/Developer JOB DESCRIPTION October 2015 Section 1 Location: Job Title: St Paul s Catholic College, Burgess Hill Web Designer/Developer Grade: Grade 6: 19,048 20,253 Times of Work: Qualifications: 37 hours per week full-time Strong knowledge of HTML and CSS. Some experience in high quality useroriented web design and development. No previous knowledge on SharePoint required. Post Accountable to: Gateway, Web & E-Learning Manager Post Responsible for: Designing and developing exciting web-based features and systems for use by the College s students, staff, parents and governors. Developing and maintaining the College s group of websites used to promote the College. Developing a fantastic new learning platform with the team that will be used to deliver learning content to students. Grievance Officer: Director of Finance & Support Services Section 2 Job Overview This is a fantastic developmental opportunity for anyone who is keen to become an accomplished web designer/developer. The post holder will have the opportunity to build their career portfolio whilst working on exciting, high-impact projects in one of the most successful schools in the country. The post holder will join a dynamic, friendly and supportive team within a school that is known for being an investor in people and technology. They can expect to develop skills across a broad range of technologies including HTML, CSS, Javascript, SQL, SharePoint, ASP.net and Visual Basic. The post holder will report to the Gateway, Web & E-Learning Manager. Section 3 Hours of Duty: Overtime: Annual Leave: Driving Licence: Confidentiality: Terms & Conditions Basic hours will be 37 per week You may be expected to work longer hours on some days. Normally time off in lieu is granted for this. Your contract is full time, so you are entitled to 23 days paid holiday which can be taken at any time with advanced agreement from your line manager. It is desirable for the post holder to have a full and current driving licence. The post holder is required to respect the confidentiality of all matters relating to the school, students and staff. Probationary Period: The post is subject to the satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period.
4 Section 4 Duties Design and develop updates for the College s websites on a three-yearly cycle including College, Sixth Form, and Professional Centre, Inspire Teaching School Alliance and Sussex Maths Hub websites. o Create responsive designs to work on all devices; o Comply with the latest web standards and statutory government regulations; Support the Gateway, Web & E-Learning team with designing and developing an in-house learning platform for the delivery of lesson content to students. o Create a range of exciting interactive highly-visual features using HTML, CSS and JavaScript to engage users. Produce supporting documentation, user guides, demonstrations and other training materials to assist students, parents and staff where applicable; Assist staff with the non-technical side of the Gateway (the College s intranet), for example, advising staff on structuring their sites and providing support with using features; Use dynamic content from SQL databases that operate behind our websites and intranet (training will be provided); Develop new features in ASP.net and Visual Basic (training will be provided); Follow project plans to help ensure deadlines are met and projects are delivered on-time; Manage your time effectively on small and large scale projects, to meet deadlines and provide clear and meaningful estimates on projected timescales where appropriate. Meet regularly with the rest of the Gateway, Web & E-Learning Team to collaborate on ideas and ensure a consistent approach when meeting with departments and individuals; Essential Skills A good knowledge and some practical experience in the following technologies: CSS (including the ability to hand code) HTML Awareness of CSS and accessibility standards Desirable Skills In addition to the above, the following skills and/or experience are desirable but are not essential: Some knowledge JavaScript/jQuery Graphic design SQL Experience in training other users SharePoint (developer or end-user experience) Competencies and Personal Qualities Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are essential; A good understanding of graphical user interface design, consistency, attention to detail and high standards; Work effectively as part of a team, understanding College roles and responsibilities and your own position within these;
5 Organised with good administration skills and highly motivated; Literate, numerate and ICT proficient; Thorough and a finisher; Able to work under pressure and to meet deadlines; Able to exercise discretion and confidentiality; Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the College.
