6 I chose the MBA at EMLYON for one reason: it was the focus on entrepreneurship and I really wasn t disappointed. Two major things stand out in my mind as to the focus on entrepreneurship for the MBA Programme. First was the entrepreneurship seminars we began the year with, focusing on identifying entrepreneurial opportunities, implementing those opportunities and financing them. And then, I had the privilege to take part in a business plan competition in Austin Texas where we actually represented one of the start ups in the EMLYON Incubator, at the competition which was a wonderful experience. We got to meet a lot of entrepreneurs and financers and I really had a great time. Grant Gudgel USA imba 2009 Entrepreneurial Leadership Development
7 INTERNATIONAL MBA 07 Experiential Learning Techniques To Develop Your Leadership Skills. Value-Based and Outcome-Oriented Learning The International MBA programme does not include or require internships. While this is a requirement for other programmes in which students have little professional experience, we expect that our International MBA participants, with an average of 6 years experience, are familiar with how companies work, how information flows, reporting relationships and office politics. Internships are great for exposing younger, less experienced students to these aspects of work life. The Entrepreneurial Leadership Project, as an outcome-based experienced, provides a better environment for International MBAs than a behaviour-based internship. The project aims at placing participants into a real value creating project with a real stakeholder. Explore Alternate Business Models with the Learning Trip In addition to the learning experience on EMLYON s European campus, the International MBA programme includes an off-site seminar called the Learning Trip. It offers you the opportunity to discover management styles of other countries, and to explore contextual factors such as geography, history, culture, geopolitics and institutions that lead to the evolution of industries and management practices. In a one-week period, you will conduct company visits and take classes at partner universities abroad. This not only provides you with an opportunity to explore alternate business models, but it also broadens your view of global business - the companies the class visits all have a global presence and extensive experience in managing business in different cultures with different business models. Past destinations have included Stuttgart, Brussels, Istanbul, Geneva and Finland (Oulu and Helsinki). From Theory to Practice with the Business Plan Competition Extending the theoretical concepts of opportunity recognition, opportunity evaluation and opportunity exploitation explored in the International MBA s required entrepreneurship seminars, as a participant of the programme, you will have the opportunity to develop your own ideas into full business plans consistent with starting a new venture and getting it funded. Successful teams will participate in international Business Plan competitions in the U.S. and Europe, with the possibility of receiving funding and gaining international exposure. The Entrepreneurial Leadership Project (ELP) During the programme, International MBA students are required to undertake an Entrepreneurial Leadership Project. The ELP places participants into a real value creating project with a real stakeholder. The imba programme team identifies potential project sponsors in companies, start-ups, associations, government and non-governmental organisations. Each project places participants in a situation in which they are responsible for gathering support and resources then transform a business development project into reality. Projects can include development of new products or services, new market opportunities and entry, or innovative process improvements. In short, the project puts the entrepreneurial spirit at the disposal of numerous types of organisations. Each project is coached by a member of the imba faculty, whose role is helping the team advance its project. The faculty coach guides the team towards a solution, accelerating the entrepreneurial learning process. Margarita Bolganova Russia imba 2010 Undoubtfully, the most exciting experience during my MBA was the ELP (Entrepreneurial Leadership Project). Dealing with a real company, solving an urgent business issue, applying theoretical skills to business practice, sharing my own work experience and learning from the team members - my ELP was extremely rich in all respects. Moreover, the findings of this project are fully applicable to my present job.
