1 LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR A. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. The Library Management Systems Administrator shall have the general qualifications of a teacher as prescribed by the State Department of Education. 2. The Library Management Systems Administrator must be certified in library science as prescribed by the State Department of Education. 3. The Library Management Systems Administrator shall hold a master degree in library science. 4. The Library Management Systems Administrator shall have had at least three (3) years of successful teaching experience. B. APPOINTMENT: The Board of Trustees shall appoint the Library Management Systems Administrator upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools for a term of not more than two (2) years, and the contract will be considered for extension at the regular March meeting each year. C. REPORTS TO: The Library Management Systems Administrator shall be responsible to the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the performance of all duties. D. JOB PERFORMANCE STATEMENTS: 1. Instructional Management a. Assumes responsibility for the operation and use of the library automation system. b. Provides training on technology hardware and software as applicable to the library automation systems, as well as expanding technological developments. c. Coordinates and is responsible for the pre-installation of automation systems at new campuses. d. Serves as system administrator for the library automation in all school library media centers. e. Serves as liaison between school districts, companies, vendors, organizations, and district personnel. f. Keeps current on hardware and software changes as they apply to the library technology. 2065

2 g. Supervises and assists with the automated cataloging of instructional materials in order to provide the best access of these materials to students and teachers. h. Participates in the creation of a bibliographic and local authority database that is accurate, complete, and which will provide ready access to, and manage of, the catalog collections in library media centers. i. Performs original cataloging of print and non-print materials as directed by the Program Director of Library Media Services according to national standards, (AACR2, Dewey Decimal System, Library of Congress Subject Headings, MARC formatting) for use in the district-wide catalog databases. j. Coordinates the retrospective conversion of existing bibliographic records to MARC format for the district-wide catalog database of all library holdings. k. Supervises the maintenance of the district-wide database, thereby maintaining data integrity. l. Develops and implements policies and procedures for works of original cataloging. m. Serves as a resource person to library media specialists on automation, cataloging, and technical trends and developments affecting the library program. n. Performs additional responsibilities, tasks, and duties as determined by the Program Director of Library Media Services. 2. School Climate a. Fosters collegiality and team building among library media specialists, encouraging active involvement in decision-making. b. Communicates effectively with campus-level staff, and library media specialists. c. Recognizes efforts and achievements of the administrative staff and library media specialists. d. Works harmoniously with all administrative and library personnel. e. Demonstrates high expectations of library media specialists. 3. School Improvement a. Works collaboratively with others in developing Aldine s district mission, district goals, and articulating a vision for the district s program. b. Monitors the library automation system circulation and on-line catalog system

3 c. Provides opportunities for library automation system staff development for the library media specialists. d. Provides analysis of the library automation system to the district. 4. Personnel Management a. Secures resources for the library media specialists to assist in attaining stated objectives. b. Assist in library automation system orientation of new library media specialists during inservices and throughout the year. 5. Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management a. Defines the program and fiscal needs in the budget development process to ensure that fiscal resources address the mission of Aldine ISD. b. Demonstrates responsible fiscal control over assigned program budgets. c. Works to keep Aldine ISD schools in compliance with state law and TEA standards. d. Analyzes facility and equipment needs for optimum use of the library automation system; utilizes information to make recommended changes or adjustments. e. Facilitates the preparation of specifications for library automation system equipment and the selection, requisition, distribution, and utilization of library materials and equipment to support the library program. 6. Student Management a. Supports district and campus rules for conduct. b. Encourages plans for improved student behavior that reflects enhanced opportunities for learning. 7. School/Community Relations a. Communicates district library automation systems, district accomplishments, goals and new ideas to parents and the community. b. Encourages two-way communication between the district and community. c. Projects a positive image to the community

4 8. Professional Growth and Development a. Utilizes information provided through formal and informal assessment data and a professional growth plan to improve professional skills and knowledge. b. Participates in appropriate conferences and staff development sessions for improved job performance. c. Actively seeks and utilizes evaluative feedback from appropriate administrative staff, subordinates, and immediate supervisor regarding job performance. d. Participates in professional organizations and disseminates ideas and information to appropriate staff. e. Provides leadership in identifying trends and opportunities in the profession, as well as solving problems facing the profession. f. Strives to improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional activities. g. Maintains active involvement in local, state, and national professional organizations. h. Conducts oneself in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner. 9. Other a. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools. E. EVALUATION: 1. The job performance statements shall constitute the criteria for an evaluation form with an evaluation code as follows: NA Measure Not Being Taken. 1 No Measurable Progress. 2 Progressed Toward The Goal. 3 Met The Goal. 4 Exceeded The Goal. 5 Significantly Exceeded The Goal

5 2. The evaluation form shall contain a place for comments and general observations made by the evaluating person. These comments shall constitute additional criteria for evaluation. 3. The Library Management Systems Administrator s evaluation is a responsibility resting with the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction. An evaluation shall be completed in writing at least once during the course of the school year. 4. The Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction shall submit to the Superintendent of Schools or the staff person designated by the Superintendent of Schools, the completed evaluation of the Library Media Systems Administrator at the time stipulated by the Superintendent of Schools1. 5. Administrators will be appraised according to the following calendar: Action Plan and Goal Setting Conference Data Collection and Analysis Contract Recommendation Summative Conference July - August September May January May/June F.
