2 CV Lonneke van de Poll-Franse, March2015- long present Teacher of Advanced Academic Skills (Master Medical Psychology at Tilburg University) Member of the editorial board of the European Journal of Cancer Member of the Executive Committee of the EORTC-Quality of Life group Chair of Committee Output of the Netherlands Cancer Registry: Coordinate usage of Netherlands Cancer Registry data for (inter)national or regional research activities Member of the Steering Committee of the Netherlands Cancer Registry: Lead and coordinate different committees of the Netherlands Cancer Registry Member of the Medical Ethics Committee of Maxima Medical Centre in Veldhoven: review of study proposals on methodological issues Teaching Evidence Based Medicine, Maxima Medical Centre Teaching at the University of Tilburg: Cancer Epidemiology Brief summary of research over the last years Trained as an epidemiologist, I have developed experience in the conduct, management and analyses of large population-based studies and trials. This has resulted in publications (189, see list of publications) that are generally well cited (>3500 citations, H-index=32). In the last years, my research has focused on cancer survivorship: the short- and long term physical and psychosocial consequences of cancer and its treatment. In 2009 I started the PROFILES (Patient Reported Outcomes Following Initial treatment and Long-term Evaluation of Survivorship) registry that combines population-based cancer registry data with patient reported outcomes ( PROFILES registry has collected PRO data from over cancer patients and survivors that I share with the academic community for free. As I obtained my PhD in diabetes research, I developed a special interest in the role of comorbidity in cancer survivorship and the mechanisms underlying the interaction between diseases, treatments and outcomes. More recently my research has shifted from doing mainly longitudinal observational studies to conducting intervention trials. I am currently the PI of two pragmatic cluster randomized trials and two individually randomized trials. All four trials investigate the hypothesized improvement of information provision, shared decision making, and survivorship care in patients with gynaecological cancer, prostate cancer or lymphoma. I am currently integrating my expertise in the field of cancer survivorship with the field of biological aging by collecting biomaterials from PROFILES participants. I want to understand why some cancer patients survive in relatively good health, while others develop numerous health problems after cancer and its treatment. International Collaborations Important international collaborations exist within: - The European Organisation of Research and treatment of Cancer (EORTC) QoL group has 140 active members (MDs, epidemiologists, psychologists, nurses) who meet twice per year. Since 2007 I participate in this group, in which we develop internationally validated QoL questionnaires and also conduct international field studies. I am the PI of two international EORTC module developments. I was member of the executive committee from 2009 to 2011, and now again since I became chair in September Diabetes and Cancer Study Group: This international consortium (MDs, epidemiologists, statisticians) includes 30 members and meets once a year to share research methodologies and collaborate in combined international studies and H2020 grant proposal. I am member of the steering committee of this group. One of my PhD students has worked in Canada with Jeff Johnson, University of Alberta, Edmonton studying diagnostic delay in diabetes and cancer patients. - European Cancer Pharmaco-epidemiology Researchers. This group MDs, epidemiologists, statisticians is collaborating in European Cancer Pharmaco-epidemiological analyses. There are only a few institutes in Europe that have access to pharmacy data linked to cancer registry data. Within this group we aim to optimize use of these linked databases by combining data and sharing new methodologies. One of my PhD students has worked in the group of Liam Murray from Queens University in Belfast, Northern Ireland to investigate the association of beta-blockers and breast cancer outcomes. - In 2007 I worked as a research-fellow at Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, UCLA, in the group of Patti Ganz. In 2012, one of my PhD students also worked with Patti Ganz for 3 months on a project combining US and Dutch lymphoma survivorship data. - I work with epidemiologists from Cancer Registries of Belgium, Italy, France, Ireland, Germany and Australia on the start-up of international quality of life studies using the PROFILES infrastructure.
