2 Dear Donor, Thank you for your interest in the documentary film Year Zero: Story of a Khmer Rouge Soldier. Enclosed you will find a detailed outline on how to donate the film s production so that you may receive charitable tax exemption for your contribution. It is our hope that this film will reveal the atrocities Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge regime brought upon the children and families of Cambodia between 1975 and To do so, we will examine the lives of a child soldier, a leader of a women's labor camp, and the survivors of Cambodia. As the film discovers each character, we are shown different paths to justice and redemption within a country torn by recent genocide. To guarantee an authentic and successful film, we have partnered with many qualified professionals in the fields of filmmaking, history, educational outreach, and social services. Within the field of filmmaking, Ray Simonaitis, executive producer of CommCrew, LLC; Peter Kinoy, Editor of Skylight Pictures Dennis Wood of Cinevate and CineBags have directly contributed to the production of this film. Furthermore, many museums, scholars, and historians are dedicated to advising and validating the historical accuracy of the film's content. Included in these fields are The Cambodian Association of Illinois, the Cambodian Land Mine Museum, Yale University's Benedict Kiernan, Northwestern University's David Scheffer, the Documentation Center of Cambodia's Youk Chhang, and the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia's Dr. Helen Jarvis In an effort to provide international awareness for Cambodia the YEAR ZERO production has successfully partnered with the Cambodian Land Mine Museum Relief Fund. The partnership will allow the film to highlight the work of this organization and help to provide it with a wide range of media access, international awareness and a larger donor base for the future. In exchange for this support the CLMMRF has agreed to give YEAR ZERO s funding donors charitable tax exemption reciepts for contributing to the film s production. The Cambodia Land Mine Museum Relief Fund was originally incorporated Letters Patent in The Cambodia Landmine Museum Relief Fund is represented in the USA by the TIDES FOUNDATION as one of their many Global Support Funds. 5 Memorandum Of Understanding In accordance with the by-laws of the The Cambodia Land Mine Museum Relief Fund mandate, the CLMMRF NGO establishes the right to promote international awareness of its humanitarian outreach projects. This can be done through film, photography exhibitions, print media as well as through televison broadcast, news media, magazine editorials or other avenues of free press media. In addition the CLMMRF is permitted to fund and implement advertising campaigns, web based promotional campaigns and fundraising initiatives that promote internatinal landmine awareness and fundraising initiatives. YEAR ZERO/CLMMRF Partnership The CLMMRF agrees to honor its partnership with the YEAR ZERO production. All donations contributed to the TIDES/CLMMRF Global Support Fund, that have been earmarked by donors for the sole purpose of YEAR ZERO PRODUCTION, shall be issued by the CLMMRF to the film s production team. As part of its partnership with the YEAR ZERO production the CLMMRF will apply for those funds as TIDES grant recommendations. A full report must be made as to how the funds will be spent before the funds will be released as a grant. The YEAR ZERO production must provide documented evidence that the funds applied for will be used explicitly for the film s production. Detailed quotes, reciepts, dealines and accounting MUST be provided to the CLMMRF in order for the NGO to make appropriate spending reports back to the TIDES FOUNDATION. Individuals who donate and request an exemption will receive their write-off regardless of this outcome.
