2 SERVICE LEARNING REQUIREMENT Service Hour Requirement: 36 HHS Youth Service Learning Coordinator is Mrs. Alix: Document hours at GetNVolved.com Hours must be completed for Early Graduation, Early Release, and Merit Card at the time of application.

5 IMPORTANT TO KNOW 24 credits in required subjects When dropping or adding classes, verify needed graduation requirements with your counselor Do not make a change to your senior schedule after you have submitted college applications!

6 APPLYING TO FOUR-YEAR COLLEGES Apply online Prepare ahead of time! - Enrolled courses, clubs and activities, service learning, employment, etc. - Essay - Possible letters of recommendation - ACT scores - Transcripts: After submitting application, ask Mrs. Ebben in the School Counseling Office to send transcripts to the schools which you have sent applications. - Pay fee online with a check, money order, or fee waiver. The student is responsible for follow-up with all needed items.

8 APPLYING TO TECHNICAL COLLEGES Apply online - Fox Valley Technical College: - Other WI Technical Colleges: - Fee: $30 Ask Mrs. Ebben in the School Counseling Office to send transcripts. If you attend the Fox Valley Technical College or Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Evening Open House on Tuesday, October 6th your application fee will be waived (and placement test fee at NWTC).

9 Need help with college applications? Wisconsin Students Go 2 College (WSG2C) October 26, 27, and 30. Representatives from the University of Wisconsin System and Wisconsin Technical College System will be at HHS helping students complete applications. Make an appointment in the Counseling Office.

13 TESTING ACT Score Report and test dates to send official score report to colleges - Next test date for ACT: October 24 (Late fee registration after September 18) December 12 (Registration deadline November 6) Technical Colleges - Accuplacer: and enter Accuplacer in the search box. Registration and practice tests will be available at this site. - ACT may be used in place of the Accuplacer. Military ASVAB - Will be offered at HHS on February 4. - Sign up in the School Counseling Office

15 SCHOLARSHIPS A list of scholarships received from outside sources is compiled, updated weekly and posted on the bulletin board in the School Counseling Office and also on the HHS Counseling page. Local Scholarship Application deadline is February 25, 2016 Check with Employers and Community Organizations. Lots of free scholarship searches online but Watch for SCAMS! If in doubt, call us! There should not be an application fee for scholarships.

16 SENIOR YEAR OPTIONS Youth Options: Application deadline is October 1 for Semester 2 courses. Information packet in the Counseling Office. UW Student must rank in the top 25% of class FVTC student must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA

17 SENIOR YEAR OPTIONS (Continued) Early Graduation: Application deadline is: December 1 no exceptions! - Required: letter from employer stating full-time work OR college / military start date letter Early Release: Application deadline is: December 1 no exceptions! - Must select one period 1 st or 8th - Required: Must pass a minimum of 5 classes each semester in order to graduate - NO disciplinary action during 1 st semester

18 College Bound Student Athletes College-bound student-athletes need to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. Who Should Register? Any current high school sophomore, junior or senior who wishes to participate in collegiate athletics at an NCAA Division I or II college or university should register. How Does Registration Work? Registrants may access the site at From the home page, click on Enter Here for NCAA college-bound student-athletes, then on the New Account link in the upper right corner. From there, simply follow the prompts.

20 A Kaplan survey of college admissions officers found: 31% visited applicants personal social media sites 30% discovered something that negatively affected an applicant s prospects Recent Examples: Bowdoin College denied student admission to a high school senior who attended a campus information session last year and posted negative comments about her fellow attendees on Twitter. University of Georgia coach Mark Richter dropped a recruit from the 2014 class because of Twitter behavior. Penn State coach Herb Hand cut a recent recruit for the same reason.
