1 Celebrations were held around the world and on social media to celebrate World Occupational Therapy Day Examples of how people promoted the global profile of the profession are presented in this document. ARGENTINA Posters and hashtags from Argentina were produced to promote the event BULGARIA Talents in Action Show was the culmination of a one-month project held together by the Association of Bulgarian Occupational Therapists (ABET) team and the second-year students from the OT program in the University of Ruse. 2 GEORGIA GE-OTA celebrated her first international day of occupational therapy. Our association translated the logo, (attached file) and each member of association had this picture as its own profile picture GREECE The Hellenic Association of Ergotherapists organised a series of promotional events including a poster competition, an information leaflet about the day and occupational therapy, a calendar for , a Facebook banner, a document titled Supporting World OT Day, Promoting OT and a document titled OT in plain words. A page titled World OT Day 2014 including information about OT, details about this year s celebration and links to WFOT s and the Association s websites was uploaded on the homepage of the Greek Ministry of Health website. The Association also uploaded on its website the relevant WFOT logo for the Day. A press release including information about the celebration of the World OT Day was sent to major press and electronic media. On the 26th October, the Association set up a booth decorated with the Association s colours and logo in Syntagma Square in the centre of Athens and several Board members, OT professionals and students distributed leaflets, posters and T-shirts to passers by and tourists. At the same me, se eral other ac i es took place ne t to the booth, such as face pain ng and pain ng for children and li e music performed by the group Sue os itanos. A lot of people danced in the street to the exceptional gypsy jazz and swing music performed by the group. 2

3 HONG KONG Organised a Community World OT Day programme which included Game Booths on paediatric, geriatric, mental health, workers health and barrier free access INDIA National and branch networks were actively encouraged to participate in a range of initiatives which included: OT School & Center, Seth G.S. Medical College & K.E.M. Hospital, Mumbai Academic session consisting of two guest lectures and photography competition Tamil Nadu Branch of AIOTA Poster competition and events for children 3

4 Padamshree Dr. D. Y. Patil School of Occupational Therapy Nerul, Navi Lamp lighting, street plays, dance events, drawing and painting competition for children Delhi Branch of AIOTA Social Media campaign, public awareness campaign which is a special initiative by TIMES OF INDIA, Delhi Police and New Delhi Municipal Corporation. Over 500 people attended from general public and participation of many professionals and Students from all across Delhi NCR. This was followed by an Occupational therapy Awareness march RAJASTHAN BRANCH OF AIOTA Full day activities including poster presentation, drawing, sports competition for special children, awards ceremonies. 4

Presentations on occupational therapy awareness, Journey of occupational therapy profession, poster competition, Street play, Damsharaz and OT Quiz Smt. Kamlaben P. Patel Institute of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, Anand OT Awareness campaign for the local community, pamphlets, personal interactions with professional, practicing doctors and public of Anand District of Gujar National Institute of Orthopedically Handicapped, Kolkata OT School & Center, T.N. Medical College &B.Y.L. Nair Hospital, Mumbai 10 hour event that included training 22 participants on screening, implementing and setting treatment goals for children with cerebral palsy, Down s syndrome and autism. 40 children with 5

6 varied disabilities were seen. The program included practical sessions and an audio-visual presentation. Jaipur OT College, Jaipur Various competitions for the students to promote awareness and enlighten the Occupational therapy students with the current trends and practices in Occupational Therapy including an essay, logo, quiz, games and prizes. Department of Occupational Therapy, School of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal University, Manipal Traditional lamp lighting ceremony, cutting and distribution of OT EUPHORIA 2014 cake and release of T-shirts to promote occupational therapy. Logo Competition, Street Play, Essay Writing Photography Contest, Potpourri and OT Quiz. 6

7 ISRAEL A string quintet playing Mendelssohn was organized for the inpatients of a mental health ward and constituted part of their recover plan. Captured on video published by GEHA (Mental Health Center) Israel World OT Day was also celebrated at Schneider Children s last week by staff in the Occupational Therapy Service. To mark the occasion, staff set up three booths in the hospital s atrium for arious experiential activities connected with the senses and movement in space both for children and for adults. Information pages were distributed to children and their families as well as hospital staff concerning the contribution of occupational therapy to the advancement of health, quality of life and physical function. MADAGASCAR Together with the rehabilitation team from HRJA one of the national university hospitals, opened the first occupational therapy department. 8 MALAWI Posters, wheelchair basketball game, presentations about occupational therapy and an introductory video to occupational therapy in Malawi were some of the activities arranged by the association MALAYSIA Promotional events and posters produced for celebrations in Malaysia THE NETHERLANDS Produced posters and images into the Dutch language. Students at Zuyd University in Heerlen designed their own poster and decorated the entry doors of the University to celebrate the event 8

9 PHILIPPINES Capampangan Occupational Therapy Students Assembly (COTSA) of Angeles University Foundation prepared a video presentation showcasing the different occupations of an Occupational Therapy student in AUF THAILAND Staff and students from the Department of Occupational Therapy, Chiang Mai University celebrated the event with community service initiative a great collection of photographs were published on their dedicated Facebook page ype=1 SRI LANKA Based at the Rehabilitation Hospital, Ragama events included; Educational & awareness session, musical entertainment & cultural show for the inpatients, outpatients, and staff of the hospital. World OT Day banner presentation within the main hospitals in Sri Lanka. Media publicity (paper & electronic). Promotion of occupational therapy T-shirts and Individual Membership among OT students and new graduates. Promotion of distributing the newly released OT book written in the native language for the general public. 9

10 SWEDEN The Swedish Association shared messages, promotional materials and direct communications with their members, programme coordinators, association boards and students OTHER: Hundreds of occupational therapists from around the world participated in the Online Technology for Occupational Therapy (OT4OT) 24 hour virtual exchange. A free online conference with 24 one hour lectures. More information available at organised a highly successful Global Day of Service to coincide with World Occupational Therapy Day occupational therapists, students and assistants donated their time and expertise to their local community.
