Whereas reports of financial losses abound, our Group is on track to improve on its bottom line once again. We must remain wary when predicting the future because the markets we serve remain exceptionally volatile. It is, however, fair to say trading conditions are encouraging. Minoan Lines and Finnlines, our two listed companies, are turning the corner. There has been too much red ink, but we can now look forward to the day when we announce a return to profitability. This turnaround has been made possible by concerted action on the part of management and thanks to the continuing support of our customers. When profitability is re-established, these two companies will join the proud stable of traditional, Italy-based Grimaldi firms that have always produced positive balance sheets. Finnlines is well placed to compete because its fleet can boast substantial carrying capacity. All ships have at least 3,000 lane metres capacity for trucks and cars, some of them exceeding 4,000 lane metres. Finnlines has already leveraged these economies of scale by landing significant long-term contracts from a car manufacturer and a forest products producer. Provided ships continue to sail full on outward and return legs, performance will no doubt continue to improve. It is a little-known fact that our Group is already one of the largest carriers of trucks and trailers in the world. We have found a way to keep growing despite political turmoil and recession in the Mediterranean Sea region. Group companies such as Malta Motorways of the Sea have taken market shares from their competitors. Cargo volumes are increasing to and from mainland Italy, Spain, Greece and North Africa. Success has been achieved in some cases in a total market that is sizably smaller than just a few years ago. Our focus on cutting costs and improving energy efficiency has begun to pay welcome dividends. Our fleets are among the youngest in the business and are increasingly equipped with the latest technological innovations. Our re-blading programme, for example, has delivered a dramatic improvement in fuel consumption which, given the high cost of bunkers, translates into millions of Euros of savings every year, per ship. We will continue to test the latest technology as part of our search for new efficiencies and in response to European emissions regulations. We have been looking at emissions abatement equipment, commonly known as scrubbers, while sounding out the market for future sources of low-sulphur fuel. Slow steaming might also help reduce fuel consumption. The calculations involved are complex; given the unpredictability of future fuel prices, it would be prudent not to place all our eggs in one basket. But we have the best engineers in the business, and the investment decisions we make will be designed to ensure we maintain a competitive edge. Low-sulphur fuel laws agreed in Brussels look set to trigger an upheaval from next year, especially in our Baltic and North Sea markets. Sea freight demand could fluctuate on certain trades, and older, inefficient tonnage might be forced out of the market. This is why our search for energy efficiency must be relentless. If we act now to ensure that fuel costs are restrained, we will secure and perhaps even increase future revenues. Success breeds confidence among managers and staff. We are now engaged in a virtuous circle of growth in volumes, revenues and profitability. We must keep an eye out for clouds on the horizon, but there is every reason to be optimistic at this stage of the year.

4 XVII euro-med convention From Land to Sea The XVII edition of the Euro-Med Convention From land to Sea, the annual conference organised by the Grimaldi Group, was held from the 24 th to the 27 th of October at the Albergo della Regina Isabella, on the island of Ischia, near Naples. More than 450 delegates attended the event, among which representatives of national governmental bodies, top representatives of the logistics, ports, maritime and banking sectors of the Euro-Mediterranean area as well as offices and agencies of the Group in the Mediterranean, North Europe and the USA. Speakers at the conference featured José Alberto Carbonell, Managing Director of the Barcelona Port Authority; Enrico Maria Pujia, General Director of the General Directorate for Maritime and Inland Waterways Transport of the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport; Francesco Pettenati, Counsellor of the Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB); Galliano Di Marco, President of the Ravenna Port Authority and Emanuele Grimaldi, Managing Director of the Grimaldi Group (together with his brother Gianluca). During the convention, Mr Carbonell, Managing Director of the Barcelona Port Authority, underlined the importance of the recently built terminal by the Grimaldi Group in the port of Barcelona. He also declared that his port will be ready to take the lead in LNG bunkering in 2014 in the Mediterranean, also offering rebates on port tariffs to ships consuming this type of fuel. Enrico Maria Pujia outlined the work done by his Ministry, focusing his speech on the fundamental role of a European economic policy of transport. He highlighted the importance of Mediterranean maritime links, stating that We hope that the Italian experience of the ecobonus will finally be shared at a European level, and stressing that the challenge of the Italian ports governance is the reform that the Ministry of Transport has in its agenda. Francesco Pettenati illustrated in his speech the performance of the EIB. 5 Events structural projects. In 2012 the European Investment Bank granted 14,5 billion of loans, 5% of which to maritime transport, mainly in port infrastructure and new vessel orders. Finally, in his presentation on the port of Ravenna, Galliano Di Marco presented the port s recent developments. He highlighted that Ravenna is the leader in traffic flows between Italy and the Black Sea. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of the recently-launched ro/ro service of the Grimaldi Group linking Ravenna with Catania and Brindisi. Emanuele Grimaldi opened his speech by analysing the current shipping sector scenario, underlying the high price of fuel, the deep fluctuations suffered by cargo flows and the liquidity availability theme. The Group is pursuing some clear strategies on these three crucial points he stated. Concerning bunkering, our strategic goal was to reduce the consumption per ton transported and we reached it thanks to investments in newbuildings and the creation of a Corporate Energy Savings Department, which invested over 10 million in green refitting Best agent of the year 2013 award to Grimaldi Logistica España During the XVII Euro Med Convention, Grimaldi Logistica España was awarded as the Best Agent of the Year The Grimaldi subsidiary in Spain was selected as the best among the various Mediterranean and North European agents of the Group. In 2013, Grimaldi Logistica España succeeded in increasing the turnover generated, it reduced port costs and managed to build a passenger and ro/ro terminal at Muelle Costa in the Port of Barcelona in record time. Grimaldi Logistica España has offices in Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid and employs fifty people. The award was presented by Costantino Baldissara, Commercial, Logistics and Operations Director of the Group, to Mario Massarotti, CEO of Grimaldi Logistica España. technology and applying silicon painting to another 17 ships with a saving up to 10% of their fuel consumption. Regarding traffic figures, Mr Grimaldi stressed the increasing cargo numbers in the first nine months of 2013, and the expansion of the Group by opening new short sea services. In terms of investments, the Group was granted a 15-year concession for a terminal at Muelle Costa, in the port of Barcelona (extendable for another 7,5 years), making a 20 million investment. On the financial side, 2012 was the most profitable year for the Group since the outbreak of the crisis, while even Minoan Lines and Finnlines contributed with a strong cash flow production, improving every year. In both companies Grimaldi Mother Company is giving support in their strengthening process and is more and more present in their management to transfer entrepreneurial attitude, targetfocused management, best practices and know-how needed to reach at least the average productivity of the rest of the Group he concluded. The convention concluded with a debate, moderated by Alfons Guinier, former Secretary General of ECSA (European Community Shipowners Associations), in which various experts and policy makers took part. The debate included: Pasqualino Monti, President of the Ports of Rome and Latium; Andrea Annunziata, President of the Salerno Port Authority; Hercules Haralambides, President of the Brindisi Port Authority; Tommaso Affinita, Managing Director of RAM-Rete Autostrade Mediterranee; Mike Sturgeon, Executive Director of ECG; José Alberto Carbonell of the Barcelona Port Authority and Emanuele Grimaldi. 6 new ROUtes The new Ravenna-Igoumenitsa- Patras MoS launched The bi-weekly maritime service started on the 19 th December further strengthening the Grimaldi Group s presence in Greece Trieste Genoa RAVENNA Livorno Ancona Salerno Brindisi IGOUMENITSA Grimaldi Lines Minoan Lines Catania PATRAS The Grimaldi Group has recently further strengthened its presence on the Adriatic routes between Italy and Greece, by launching a new service between the ports of Ravenna, Igoumenitsa and Patras. The new line started on the 19 th of December, has a bi-weekly frequency and is dedicated to the transport of rolling cargo and passengers. The unit serving photo by Christos Chatzaras this new line is the ro/pax vessel Euroferry Brindisi with a length of 168 metres, a loading capacity of 2,100 linear metres of rolling cargo, 130 cars and 1,000 passengers, accommodated in cabins and reclining seats. The new service is in addition to those offered by the Group between Italy and Greece through Grimaldi Lines and Minoan Lines. In the last two years, the Grimaldi Group launched strategic motorways of the sea to serve the trade flows between Italy and Greece: the first was the Brindisi-Igoumenitsa- Patras line, launched in April 2012, and dedicated to both passengers and freight. This line, with a daily frequency, is currently served by the two modern ferries Sorrento and Catania, each able to transport over 2,250 linear metres of rolling cargo, 170 cars and about 1,000 passengers. At the end of 2012 two more services were launched: the Ravenna-Brindisi- Catania ro/ro service operated by Grimaldi Lines, and the extension of the Ancona-Igoumenitsa-Patras ro/pax service to Trieste, operated by Minoan Lines. The first, with a three-times-a-week frequency, is dedicated to the transport of any type of rolling units, and is served by the two new ro/ro vessels Eurocargo Catania and Eurocargo Sicilia. 7 was the first line to connect the industrial basin of northeastern Italy to the east of Sicily and south Apulia region, with huge benefits for hauliers. Through transhipment in Brindisi or Catania, freight transporters are able to use other regular services of the Group to Greece, the Balkans, Malta and Libya. Minoan Lines now links the ports of Trieste and Ancona with Igoumenitsa and Patras, through the deployment of three vessels, including two of biggest and most comfortable cruise ferries in the Mediterranean namely the Cruise Olympia and the Cruise Europa. Each vessel is able to accommodate up to 3,000 passengers and carry 3,000 linear metres of rolling freight. Furthermore, with the Igoumenitsa Express line the Group increased the departures from Brindisi to Igoumenitsa and viceversa, assuring double departures in days with higher peaks of cargo demand and transit time reductions on the long bridge service that links Barcelona to Igoumenitsa. By increasing departures between Greece and Italy, thousands of trucks travelling from Greece or Turkey to Brindisi (via Igoumenitsa or Patras), directed to Barcelona or Valencia, benefit from a reduction of costs, shortening of transit times and a reduction of working hours for drivers. Finally, the Group offers a weekly departure between Genoa, Livorno, Catania and Patras dedicated to rolling cargo only as well as three weekly departures from Brindisi to Catania, four weekly departures from Catania to Malta and weekly departures from Malta to Libya (Tripoli, Al Khoms). The inauguration ceremony of the new line was held in the port of Patras on the 27 th of January, with the presence of Andreas Katsaniotis, General Secretary of the Government Press and Mass Media; Kostas Platykostas, President of the Patras Port Authority; Platonas Marlafekas, President of the Chamber of Commerce of the Achaia region; The Bishop of Patras Mr. Chrysostomos; Kostas Grinias, Development Director of the Igoumenitsa Port Authority; Antonis Maniadakis, Managing Director of Minoan Lines; Guido Grimaldi, Corporate Truck & Trailer Commercial Director of the Group and customers, journalists and many other guests. V arious guests attended the inauguration ceremony in Ravenna on the 30 th of January, among which Fabrizio Matteucci, Mayor of Ravenna; Claudio Casadio, President of the Province of Ravenna; Mario Mondelli, Police Commissioner of Ravenna; Marco Lainati, Captain of the Guardia di Finanza; Galliano Di Marco, President of the Ravenna Port Authority; Giuseppe Meli, Ravenna s Harbour Master; Guido Grimaldi, Corporate Truck & Trailer Commercial Director of the Group and Eugenio Grimaldi, Line Manager Short Sea Lines. 8 service DeveLOPments The Group strengthens the lines between Livorno, Savona and Valencia Daily departures are now offered between Northern Italy and Spain Starting from the 17th of February, the Grimaldi Group has strengthened the frequency of its Livorno- Savona-Valencia ro/ro line by adding two vessels on the service, thus granting daily departures from both harbours and increasing the weekly transport capacity offered.the units deployed are the Eurocargo Cagliari and Eurocargo Alexandria with a length of 200 metres, a gross tonnage of 32,700 tonnes, and able to transport about 4,000 linear metres of rolling cargo each - equal to 280 trailers - and 200 cars, at a service speed of 23 knots. Through the new daily frequency departure all clients can also exploit the advantages of a better rotation of their trailers, enjoying significant benefits in terms of vehicles utilisation and savings on operational costs. Moreover, the total transport capacity has increased by 100% reaching 3,600 trucks/trailers on a weekly basis. Furthermore, four weekly departures are offered from Livorno to Barcelona and three between Savona and Barcelona. From Livorno to the Catalonian capital, departures are every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with arrivals on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Departures from Barcelona to Livorno are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with arrivals on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Sailings from Savona to Barcelona and vice versa are on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The increase in the number of departures witnesses the effort that the Grimaldi Group is putting in offering to its international clientele, VALENCIA BARCELONA particularly for traffic flows between Northern Italy and Spain, the best logistics solutions in terms of frequency, cost savings and reliability.
