2 Report of Student Learning and Achievement Department of Business Enterprise University of the Ozarks For Academic Year: Mission of the Department of Business Enterprise: The mission of the Business Enterprise program is to assist students in achieving self-fulfillment and to develop career skills for their future. We teach those skills and encourage those attitudes which develop competency in students for employment in positions requiring executive or educational abilities. We instill Christian ideals into business relationships and prepare students for graduate study. Within the framework of the overall Ozarks mission, we strive to develop leaders who seek the richness of life accorded by study of the liberal arts and the quality of life provided by professional preparation in the fields of accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing and business education. Intended Student Learning Outcomes for Business Core: 1. Students will demonstrate competency in their knowledge and comprehension of a core set of business concepts 2. Students will demonstrate competency in their knowledge and comprehension of an area of concentration 3. Students will demonstrate competency in critical thinking through analyzing problems, applying theory, synthesizing information, and evaluating business policy and actions 4. Students will demonstrate competency in intelligent decision making 5. Students will demonstrate competency in oral communication Exhibit A 6. 3 Direct Measures of Student Learning 1. Comprehensive Business Exam All senior students who major in the Business Enterprise Program will score at least 70% on the Comprehensive Business Exam. 2. Business Strategy Capstone Project All senior students who major in the Business Enterprise Program will score a minimum of 80% on their capstone project in Business Strategy 3. Accounting Capstone Project (Accounting Majors Only) All senior Accounting Majors will score a minimum of 80% on their capstone project in Auditing class 4. Business Education Integrative Experience All senior Business Education Majors will successfully complete their integrative field experience classes (Teaching Internship I & II) 5. Economics Capstone Project (Economics Majors Only) All senior Economics Majors will score a minimum of 80% on their capstone project in Comparative Economic Systems class 6. General Business Capstone Project (General Business Majors Only) All senior General Business Majors will score a minimum of 80% on their capstone project in Managerial Accounting class 7. Management / Administration Capstone Project (Management / Administration Majors Only) All senior Management / Administration Majors will score a minimum of 80% on their capstone project in Management Seminar class 8. 8 Students In Free Enterprise The SIFE team won in the Regional Competition for the 19 th year. Also they completed in the Wrangler Case completion and won 3 rd place. The team completed over 5,800 hours of community service both in the Clarksville community and internationally. Over 70 students were actively involved in the organization. They were taught: (a) fiscal responsibility, (b) ethics, (c) globalization, (d) environmental sustainability, and (e) success skills. Arkansas Capital Corporation Donald Reynolds Governors Cup and Wal Mart Business Plan Competitions Ozarks had two business plan teams that competed during the academic year. These included: The business plan team, VERDE a retail business based on soapnuts, was entered in the Arkansas Capital Corporation Donald Reynolds Governors Cup and was selected as a finalist in the Best Agriculture Undergraduate competition. This business plan also entered the Wal Mart Better Living Business Plan Competition and was selected as the Tulsa Regional Champion and advanced to the semi final round in Bentonville, Arkansas. The finalists in Bentonville were: Columbia University, University of Michigan, Vanderbilt University, Duke University, Arizona State University, University of California Berkeley, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, University of Maryland, and University of the Ozarks. The business plan team, Switchgrass Inc., entered the Donald Reynolds Governor's Cup competition and was selected as a finalist in the Best Agriculture Undergraduate competition as well as advancing to the semi final round of competition.
