Associate of Science Degree in Flight Education The Associate of Science, Flight Education degree program is designed to prepare students for the employment as a flight instructor and related careers fields such as airline scheduling, airline operations, and commercial pilot. This program is offered on the main campus through the College of Education and Continuing Studies (CECS) or as hybrid program through Hampton University Online. 2 About the Department of Aviation The Department of Aviation in the School of Engineering and Technology provides students with preparation for a variety of careers in aviation. Combined with a strong liberal arts background, the aviation program prepares students to participate in building the future of the aviation industry. The Department also prepares its students to be professionals by demonstrating the value of life-long learning through research projects and the value of service to the University, aviation profession, and community. Hampton University's has a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved ATCI program. The Department of Aviation has established itself as a high-quality Bachelor of Science degree program with a national reputation for outstanding graduates. STEPS: Here is what we know about using post-911 GI Bill to pay for flight training: 1. Post 911 pays for 100% of all training up to either the annual cap ($10,700 this year) or up to in-state tuition at a public school if in a degree producing program. Hampton is a degree producing program. 2. Post 911 pays a living stipend equal to the BAH rate for an E5 with dependents for non-active duty Soldiers enrolled in resident courses full time and apx $720 a month for on-line only students. Active duty Service Members do not receive the living stipend. 3. Post 911 pays up to $1000 each academic year for books and supplies. This payment does not reduce your basic benefit. The rate of payment is $43.21 per semester hour taken. 4. Post 911 pays up to $100 each month for tutoring. This payment does not reduce your basic entitlement. 5. Post 911 pays for exams (FAA Knowledge Tests) and Practical Tests (FAA Checkrides). This payment does reduce your basic entitlement. What we know about enrolling in the HamptonU flight program and using post-911 benefits: 1. Your first step is to convert your Montgomery GI Bill entitlements to Post 911 benefits. You accomplish this thru the VA by applying to use your Post 911 benefits. You'll have to create an ebenefits account, but it isn't particularly difficult. 3. Apply for admission to HamptonU. You accomplish this on-line at 4. You'll need a. Clearance through the VA representative if utilizing VA Education Benefits 5. The VA Representative is Ms. Isabella Aldridge, The Dean of the School of Aviation is Mr. Freeman, but the person in the Dept of Aviation that I've had the most contact with is Ms. Browning, 7. After you complete the application process (takes about 2 business days), you then register for your classes. As you don't receive the living stipend, you don't necessarily need to pad your course load to get to full-time (6 hours per quarter, 12 per semester). You can just enroll in the aviation specific courses you desire - probably the Instrument Ground and Instrument Labs I and II. 8. If you have previously attended school under your GI Bill, you should complete and forward a VA form The form can be found on-line at The instructions are included. Be careful when mailing the form - it goes to the regional office where the school is located rather than where the student lives. All American Aviation Services belongs to the Decatur, Georgia. Hampton University belongs to the Buffalo Regional Office. If you are flying with AAAS as a flight school student not enrolled in a university program, use Decatur. If you are enrolled in Hampton U, send it to Buffalo. Here's how students create an account with Hampton University: 1. Log in to the HUNET portal at tonu.edu%2fc%2fportal%2flogin 2. On the front page, under the heading "Quicklaunch Navigation", click on the Touchnet link.

4 3. Log in to Touchnet using your HUID and your student password. This is not your password you use for the blackboard - it is the personal pin you received from HamptonU in an ed memorandum. Unless you changed it, it is probably the month and year of your birth. 4. After getting in, click on the e-refunds tab and follow the prompts to set up your personal banking account information. You'll need the full account number and routing number. 5. Once complete, your VA reimbursements will be deposited directly into your personal account.
