The ILE consortium encourages best teaching and learning practices as identified by research in cognition, and incorporates the use of technology to enhance and deliver instruction. Description: The purpose of the center is to identify the best practices for online learning and implement effective pedagogical strategies in online learning environments. (Total budget, $470,675). Project Energy, Department of Energy, Washington, D.C., September 30, 1999-September 29, 2000 (extended through September 2001) Co-Principal Investigator. Part of a Department of Energy consortium project with six Alabama research universities in a DOE/EPSCoR research grant. Description: The goal of this project has been to enhance energy education through scientific knowledge and educational skills in Alabama schools, focusing primarily on students and teachers who are underserved or underdeveloped in science and energy education resources and teacher inservice opportunities. Conceptual Change in Teachers Working with Inquiry-based Science Lessons, College of Education Research Grant, 1999, Co-Principal Investigator. Description: This funding provided an opportunity to do a longitudinal study of conceptual change on inquiry learning in science, extending earlier research by Dr. Dwyer. The research will provide valuable knowledge of teacher accommodation of inquiry learning for future teacher education and development in science education. 5
