2 Getting Started Welcome to the Virtual High School! First, you ll start off by getting acquainted with the home site. www2.nr.edu/vhs

4 Courses Check out the courses link. The course links are also available at the bottom of the home page. Each link should take you to the pbworks login page. This is where you ll login to access the online content you ll work with.

6 Pbworks Once you login, you ll be taken to the main subject page. For example, here s the one for English.

7 Getting to Your Class In the right hand side of the screen you ll see the sidebar. Click the class that you re enrolled in.

8 Navigating the Wiki This will take you to the Core site. For example, this is what you d see for Freshman English.

9 Navigating the Wiki As you scroll down, you ll see links to lesson plans for each module.

10 Navigating the Wiki When you click on the lesson plan link, you ll be taken to the module lesson plan. This will explain what you are to do to complete the module.

11 Navigating the Wiki As you scroll down, you ll see the apex lessons you re expected to complete within the particular module. For example, here s Freshman English Module 1.

12 Apex So, to complete your apex lessons in each module you ll go to and log in.

13 Apex You ll see the courses you re enrolled in in the center box.

14 Apex Click the course link of the course you wish to work on and the coursework will pop up in a new screen. For example, Introduction to Composition and Literature.

15 Apex On the left side of your screen, you ll see a list of links where you can jump around to where you need to be.

16 Deciphering Your Lesson Plan for Apex If you ll notice, the numbers on your lesson plan corresponds with the numbers listed in apex. For example, if your assignment was 1.1.1, that would mean Unit 1, Lesson 1, Activity 1. Look at the next slide for clarification.

18 Working in Apex In each activity you will have an assignment to complete and multiple pages to review.

19 Completing a Unit You have completed a unit when you ve done all the required lessons including each activity and lesson.

20 When You Finish a Unit When you finish a unit you will be required to do the review and then complete the test on the particular unit.

21 You re Not Done Yet You must make sure that you ve finished everything according to your lesson plan. Just because you finished your apex lessons and taken the Unit Test, doesn t mean that you re finished. Look at Freshman English Module 1 Oral Language on the next slide.

23 When Am I Completely Finished With a Course? You know you re finished with a course when you ve completed all the modules and all the work within each module. Then, you ll check with your counselor to make sure you ve passed everything satisfactorily.

24 How Do I Turn in Assignments to My Teacher? In the Sidebar, that you saw earlier, you ll see a link for Assignment Upload.

25 Assignment Upload

26 Assignment Upload When you get to the Assignment Upload, on the right side you ll see the Navigator with images of folders. Scroll down and find your name. Upload your assignments under your name. Make sure you click on your folder, because the only things that will be graded for you are what documents are in that folder.

28 Uploading an Assignment To upload an assignment click on your folder. Then, click your name again. Click Upload Files towards the left of the screen.

29 Uploading an Assignment Then, you just have to locate your assignment on your computer, double click it, and it ll be uploaded. You will get a success message on your folder screen. If not, re-upload.

30 Helpful Advice When you name an assignment, be sure to put at least your last name and the name of the assignment in the title. The reason for this is that whatever name you upload that assignment as, is the name your teacher will see. You will not be able to rename anything once you ve uploaded. You will also have to ask an administrator before anything you upload can be deleted.

31 What Do I Do if I Need Help? If you need help, no problem! your teacher and set up a time for them to talk you through it. You ll get through a lot faster if you contact your teacher and ask for help when you need it than by avoiding the areas in which you have trouble. Don t sit in a fog! ASK!!
