This image cannot currently be displayed. Good Afternoon! Yes, since you already have an accredited baccalaureate program you would need to submit a substantive change report to add a new program option. In this case, a prelicensure option. For a planned substantive change report, the report is due a minimum of four (4) months prior to the proposed implementation. Information about a substantive change report is on the ACEN website under Resources for Nursing Programs. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. Have a great day! 15 APPENDIX H SURVEY COMMENTS LETTERS OF SUPPORT

Survey of Interest in Pre-Licensure BSN Degree - Students 12/13 Question: 13. Do you have any other comments about Gordon State College developing a prelicensure Bachelor of Science degree in addition to the Associate of Science in Nursing degree? Respondent Response A BSN program at Gordon State would be absolutely amazing. It would help a lot of us nursing students out, time and money wise. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider developing this program!! Thank you so much, Lauren MCDaniel pre-nursing student. A online program for BSN would be perfect A Pre-licensure program would be more time and cost effective for students pursuing a bachelors degree Although a BSN pre-licensure degree will not benefit me as I will be completing my ASN degree this December, I do wish that a BSN pre-licensure degree had been an option when I was first starting the nursing program. As a current nursing student, I am already thinking about furthering my education. I would love to see an RN-MSN option! Chemistry should be considered a mandatory requirement rather than having an option for Biology series, because Masters programs will require the Chemistry and once working, it will be more difficult to go back to a full time class schedule. Also, medical terminology should also be a prerequisite for the nursing program. Gordon State College already has a highly reputable Associate of Science in Nursing program. The addition of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program would help retain nursing majors. My current plan is to complete my ASN at Gordon and transfer to Clayton State to complete my BSN since Gordon does not yet offer it. I strongly support the addition of the BSN program at Gordon. Gordon State College should offer more on-line prerequisites that allows for working adults to complete their core classes in a timely manner to be accepted into the BSN program. Great idea I am interested in finding out what that means- Pre Licensure? Sounds like as the Nursing cores are completed you would get a license at each stage, as in associates license after 2 years and bachelor's after 3, essentially 2 license applications? I am just wanted to start off here at Gordon by getting my Associate of science Degree in Nursing and then transfer. I believe Gordon should also offer a CNA course as well. I failed to take this course in school and now I am having to enroll this summer at Southern Crescent to fulfill my nursing program. I believe it would attract more students to the college. Most hospitals are requiring a BSN degree and steering away from ASN graduates. It would be very beneficial for student, faculty, and the college in general. I believe it would be a valuable asset to Gordon State College to offer a pre-licensure BSN. Most students plan to obtain their bachelor's degree, and this would be another option when it comes to choosing schools. Survey of Interest in Pre-Licensure BSN Degr

Question: 13. Do you have any other comments about Gordon State College developing a pre-licensure Bachelor of Science degree in addition to the Associate of Science in Nursing degree? Respondent Response I believe it would be very beneficial to the community as a whole I believe that a BSN nursing degree is the way to go. In the next few years the hospitals are going to want to hire BSN nurses, so the change needs to be welcomed and Gordon State College needs a straight through BSN program. I wish they had when I started. I do not know about my interest in this bsn because it would not benefit me when I am almost done with the asn. I do not think that it is necessary to make students acquire there ASN before they can get than BSN. Most schools in Georgia only offer a BSN program. I feel as though making it a requirement to get your ASN first, although you may learn more and not be so overwhelmed when it comes to getting your BSN, this costs more in the long run for students financially and it seems to me to be very tedious. I hope that GSC chooses to create a straight BSN program because it cuts off half a semester for students in the nursing program. There are so many colleges in Georgia that have a BSN program and do not require a CNA license, but I do not care to transfer unless I have to. I also hope GSC considers an online BSN program. I like the Assoc of Nursing Degree because I can get my license and start working I love how you added the CNA licensure as a requirement because it would really give people an insight of what is to come if you are going for the nursing program. It will either leave you wanting to pursue nursing or for some it will let them know it may not be the field for them. It helps them change their major almost immediatetly before they commit to the nursing program. It really gives others who are serious about the program a better running chance since it is so competitive. I think Gordon state college had done Associate of nursing long enough to just have the degree program started, especially when they already have the RN-BSN programme i wonder what's really stopping us, and the fact that hospitals are actually hiring bachelors in Nursing. I think it is a great idea I and wish it would have developed before I began the program. I think it is a great opportunity for students I think it would be a great idea to have a generic BSN program. Gordon's ASN program is well known throughout the medical community, and every hospital that I've had clinical has Gordon nurses there. I think it would be a great idea to incorporate a program for students to have the option of going straight BSN and avoiding the RN program like many other schools in the state.

Question: 13. Do you have any other comments about Gordon State College developing a pre-licensure Bachelor of Science degree in addition to the Associate of Science in Nursing degree? Respondent Response I think it would be a wonderful idea to add to this already high-end program. I am currently a pre-nursing major but have decided to apply to different programs because Gordon does not have the Bachelors program. However, if Gordon were to develop one I would much rather attend Gordon for nursing school if the bachelors program was added. This would also allow for more students to be accepted into the school. I think it would be a wonderful idea. Gordon's nursing programs seem to have a very good reputation for graduating high quality nurses. I think it would be great to have a BSN program to be even more competative in the job market as new graduates. Gordon is a great school and it would be nice to have a BSN program located between Clayton State and Macon. i think it would be great I think it's a good idea, I would have chosen a Bachelor's degree program if it had been an option. I think it's a great idea for a BSN at Gordon because most hospitals are saying they want a BSN preferred nurse. This is making it harder for the ADN new grad nurse to obtain a position at a hospital unless they have experience. I THINK THE BRIDGE PROGRAM WORKS JUST FINE. I think this would be absolutely amazing. I have no doubt that Gordon State's reputation within the field of Nursing education would be a very sought after by many. I wish Gordon RN program was a bachelor. I also hope Gordon gets nursing master degree. I wish that it had been available when I started the nursing program. I think it is necessary in light of the fact that many hospitals are not hiring ASN nurses. This would also put Gordon on a higher level of prestige. I would be very interested. I am having to transfer to another college because I do not want to get just an associates or have to do the degrees separately. This would only be useful for me though if it was available by Fall I would like to do this. I want my BSN as fast as possible and it is a slow process... I have already been trying for 2 years. Moved from FL to GA to come to school and keep hitting roadblocks because of some requirement or another to enter the program. I am VERY frustrated!!! Plus, it would be great to be able to make more money to support my family and continue to my educational goals! Like to see Gordon get a pre-licensure program that is aimed towards making it easy for LPN's to bridge over, as I work full time as an LPN now, and am struggling with inconvenient class times, and the competitiveness of this program to just complete my associates. It would be great if I could skip at least one step towards a BSN.

Question: 13. Do you have any other comments about Gordon State College developing a pre-licensure Bachelor of Science degree in addition to the Associate of Science in Nursing degree? Respondent Response I would love to go straight through the program and graduate with a BSN degree. It would easier to get the core out of the way and finish it all. Thank you. If classes were offered in the evenings or weekends. The program would get more students. If Gordon was to have a pre-licensure Bachelors of science degree...it would be a lot easier. That is why I'm planning on transferring because Gordon doesn't have that program & in order to recieve a bachelors-you have to have an associates than a bachelors which is way more money. It is a good idea, but too late for me. It would be easier to offer CNA courses at Gordon. It would be great to have an accelerated program for students who qualify. Most of the students in these programs are non-traditional and would prefer to just go through without summer breaks. Even if it were just taking Pharm 1 and 2 in the summer. it would be helpful to break up the program more, if needed - going to school full-time with no paying job is a scary thought. It would be so much easier. It would be very helpful if the nursing program times and classes had more availability. Being close to the end of my pre-requisties it is hard for me to accomidate my schedule with the classes that I have left to take and work. I have to work to provide for my son as I am currently a single mom. I would love to continue at gordon and finish my degree here but its hard when the classes I need are only at certain times. It would nice to start the BNS program before you have to complete the ADN program..even if it is the same length It would reduce the time between getting education and becoming a professional in the field versus spending 2 years to get the associates then an additional 1 year for the bachelors. If people come in that already have a Bachelors degree, they could potentially reduce the total time it takes to become an RN by having some pre-requisite classes already completed. it's a good idea Many places are now requiring a BSN--Wellstar, Emory, etc. I am not sure that I would recommend getting an ADN to anyone. However, I would most certainly promote Gordon State Nursing Program. The staff is outstanding and I feel that I am receiving an outstanding education in Nursing. I am proud to state that I will graduate from Gordon State College Nursing.

Question: 13. Do you have any other comments about Gordon State College developing a pre-licensure Bachelor of Science degree in addition to the Associate of Science in Nursing degree? Respondent Response Nursing is a diverse and progressive healthcare field. It benefits any school to "keep up" with the change and occasionally that means adding new programs and using limited funding to keep pace with career goals and future licensing requirements. Please consider having the program in spring of 2014!! Please consider making this avaliable for students going into nursing. Thanks. That would be great The teachers in the Associate program are more than I could ever ask for, so I know that the Bachelor program will be exceptional also! They really need it. Especially considering many hospitals won't hire a nurse without them having a bsn. This is honestly my only complaint about gord This would be a great opportunity for the college to increase its number of nursing students in the program. I would love to see Gordon be able to increase the number of students per enterance semester as you have the best nursing program in the state. This would be awesome! I am pursuing a masters of science in anesthesia, and I know this would better prepare me. We understand that CNA will be required, it is bad that students have to attend Wish it was initiated prior to my enrollment in the Gordon Nursing Program. Would like to read some more information about it

Survey of Interest in Pre-Licensure BSN Degree Facilities Response As wonderful as the ASN program is now, I can only imagine how a BSN program would be at Gordon College! great opportunity Many of our nurses receive their education at Gordon. I think they choose Gordon as much for the convenient location as for the length of the program. With that said, I believe many students from surrounding counties would still choose Gordon even if their program changed to a pre-licensure BSN program. Patients are much more complex and require more clinical skills & increased education to safely care for them. A BSN is preferred however we still hire ADNs. We no longer hire LPNs and I see this as a precursor for shying away from ADNs as more healthcare organizations reached to achieve magnet status. BSN are needed as well for succession planning. This is a great idea as I work with new RN graduates and they have problems performing routine nursing tasks, e.g manual BPs. Gordon college has a great SIm Lab. Your school turns out excellent nurses. Glad for another avenue to pursue BSN
