2 Collective Vision for Global Health Academy Bringing together the University s eminent Global Health Scientists and Practitioners and students from disciplines across all three colleges to promote excellence in the science and practice of Global Heath Founded in 2009 Three premises underpin the Global Health Academy

3 Premise 1 - the equality of humanity We are all born equal. There is no hierarchy within the human race. But we are born into, we live in, and we die in, very unequal circumstances. We can change the unequal circumstances of living and dying

4 2) Many solutions are in the world already - Parts of the answers to almost all the world s problems are in the world already, just not in the places where we expect to find them, or with the people whom we assume have the knowledge. And knowledge often sits in a different place to where it is needed.

5 3) People bring about change - investing in people to share knowledge across boundaries is essential Students, staff, researchers, alumni, colleagues in the city, nationally and internationally are the ones who make a difference The challenges facing world today are complex, multiple, and intimately interlinked and only through people-driven partnerships across and within disciplines, countries, and communities can the perfect storm be diverted.

6 Key objectives: 1 Offer world leading interdisciplinary postgraduate Degrees, strengthening people to combat global health challenges 2 Facilitate and engage in global collaborative research 3 Participate and lead in the creation of global health networks, partnerships and communities with attention to those whose voices are least often heard 6
