3 Project Achieve is a collaboration between Florida State College at Jacksonville, Duval County Public Schools, Nassau County School District and the FDDC to provide a comprehensive inclusion model vocational training program at a post-secondary institution for Dual Enrolled students from Duval and Nassau counties with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The Goal: Sustainable Independent Employment

25 2 Counties Duval Nassau 10 students 5 from each county 7 males 3 females Must have an intellectual and/or developmental disability Students Not eligible for a standard high school diploma Must meet Dual Enrollment standards 2.0 GPA Must take the TABE Achieved TABE Reading range: th grade reading level requirement is waived for Project Achieve

26 Selections Stacked vs. non-stacked classes -Any class that articulates to a degree seeking program must meet eligibility requirements for the college credit curriculum. -Stacked classes are non-credit and college credit classes taught simultaneously, allowing students who do not meet standards for the college credit curriculum to take the class as part of a workforce certificate program.

28 Selections -How students are selected -District transition and ESE staff have the primary responsibility for student selection. -For details on this, talk to Transition Specialists

29 Enrollment -Students can enroll through three primary methods -Dual Enrollment -Standard enrollment -Existing Programs -Brownfields -Ports Grant

30 TABE Requirements -For Project Achieve, FSCJ has allowed a waiver to TABE entry requirements allowing students who score below a 6 th grade level to be admitted. -Project Achieve also assists students with completion of requirements for a TABE Waiver, allowing students to exit programs without meeting exit requirements.

31 Funding -Dual Enrollment -Vocational Rehabilitation -Title IV Comprehensive Transition Program -Personal Funds

32 Funding -Dual Enrollment -A student who has received their special diploma IS NOT eligible for post-secondary dual enrollment. -Students are encouraged to delay receipt of their special diploma until completion of postsecondary programs. -If special diploma requirements are met, districts may allow students to participate in senior activities with a delayed receipt of diploma.

33 -Vocational Rehabilitation Funding -Requires advanced planning and demonstration of ability to benefit from training. -Establishing a connection between VR and students early in their education is key to accessing VR funding.

34 Funding -Title IV Comprehensive Transition Program -Allows students with intellectual disabilities to access Pell funding to pay to enroll in an approved CTP. -Project Achieve is moving toward becoming a CTP. -Extensive curriculum and financial aid requirements must be met.

36 Growth and Expansion Year two of Project Achieve: Expanding from 10 to 13 students Broader range of disabilities Year 1: all students had cognitive disabilities Year 2: Broader range of students, including ASD and multiple diagnoses

37 TIES Initiative -Further collaboration between DCPS and FSCJ- Using FTE funds acquired through dual enrollment the TIES initiative will establish a full time DCPS ESE teacher on the FSCJ downtown campus. FSCJ will supply funds for ipads to equip the classroom with additional instructional tools for students with disabilities.

38 TIES Initiative -Further collaboration between DCPS and FSCJ- Provides on-campus resource center for students served by public schools. Foundation for the formation of a Title IV CTP to access Pell funding.

61 Instructor Support I am pleasantly surprised. I have two students in our program who didn t pass the TABE test, had low TABE scores. They are Dual Enrollment students. They are doing very well in the class. Both wound up with a B in our last class for Inventory Management. Both students are motivated Mr. P. and Mr. K. They both show up early, they leave late, they ask for extra credit, they both are very eager and both are doing a very good job.
