6 Plenary Spekers: William F. Dunn, MD Dr. Dunn is a pulmonologist/ intensivist at Mayo Clinic and Past President of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). He is recipient of multiple Mayo Clinic awards for clinical and educational excellence, and led a team in the design and implementation of the Mayo Clinic Multidisciplinary Simulation Center, where he served as Medical Director He continues to serve the SSH Accreditation Council, Accreditation Board of Review, and the Systems Integration Accreditation Subcommittee. Pamela R. Jeffries, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF Dr. Pamela R. Jeffries (PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF), Dean and Professor for the School of Nursing at George Washington University, is nationally known for her research and work in developing simulations and online teaching and learning. She is well regarded for her expertise in experiential learning, innovative teaching strategies, new pedagogies, and the delivery of content using technology in nursing education. Additionally, Dr. Jeffries is the President of the interprofessional, international Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and a member of the Institute of Medicine s Global Intraprofessional Education (IPE) forum, among many other organizations. Jeffries was newly inducted in the prestigious Sigma Theta Tau Research Hall of Fame and is the recipient of several teaching and research awards from the Midwest Nursing Research Society, the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulations and Learning (INACSL), and teaching awards from the National League of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau, International, and most recently, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Excellence award. She has a BSN from Ball State University and a MSN and PhD in Nursing from Indiana University. Daniel Raemer, PhD Dan Raemer has developed a special expertise in teamwork and crisis management over the past twenty years at the Center for Medical Simulation in Charlestown, Massachusetts. He is particularly interested in the art of debriefing and is frequently called upon to facilitate multi-disciplinary teamwork sessions in a variety of specialty areas such as operating rooms, intensive care units, emergency departments, endoscopy, and labor and delivery suites. In 2003 Dan received a unique award from the Harvard Department of Anaesthesia for excellence in teaching. Using simulation as a research tool to investigate healthcare worker s behaviors and thought processes has been his most enduring passion. Dan has published work in these areas and has given numerous keynote addresses for specialty societies and other healthcare organizations on simulation as it has blossomed in the last several years. He has worked globally to establish the International Meeting on Medical Simulation, is the founding trustee and a Past-President of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). In 2008, Dan received a Lifetime Achievement Award from SSH for his contributions to the field. He is also a Past-President of the Society for Technology in Anesthesia. Dan s graduate degrees are in Bioengineering and he worked as a researcher for many years at Brigham and Women s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital in the Anesthesia and Critical Care Departments. In addition to his publications related to simulation practice and research, he has written extensively on monitoring devices and has a number of patents for clinically useful devices and technologies. 6 NYSIM Registration / Agenda
