2 ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT Entrepreneurship Development & Industrial Coordination (EDIC) department was established at NITTTR Chandigarh in the year 1983 with a view to introduce and promote entrepreneurship development and improve industry-institute interaction (III) in the technical education system. Presently, the department provides services to the Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics, Management Institutes of the country, specifically focusing on the Northern Region. The department is engaged in training of entrepreneurs, potential entrepreneurs, entrepreneur-trainer-motivators (ETMs), technical teachers, managers, administrators and professionals from industries. With a view to have a holistic approach to the promotion of entrepreneurship and industryinstitute interaction, the department is also conducting research & development studies; preparing instructional material (both print and non-print); offering assistance in curriculum design and review; providing extension services to client institutes and undertaking consultancy work in the broad areas of Entrepreneurship, Industry-Institute Interaction, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Start-up and Management, and Quality Management and Assurance.

3 VISION AND MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT VISION: Excellence in the promotion of entrepreneurship, business management, quality assurance, and industry-institute interaction MISSION: To train technical teachers, entrepreneurs, administrators and industry professionals to transform them into global leaders

4 OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT To promote entrepreneurship and self-employment in the technical institutions of the country viz. Engineering colleges, polytechnics and management institutions. To promote and intensify the interaction of the technical institutions with the industry. To promote quality related issues like Quality Management System, Quality Assurance etc. in the technical institutions. To assist different national and state level organisations like MHRD, NPIU, EdCIL, AICTE, NSTEDB, State Directorates of Technical Education, State Directorates of Industries, and Technical Institutions through offering of Research & Development and Consultancy services in the field of Entrepreneurship, MSME start-up and Management, Quality Management System, Strategic Planning and Industry-Institute Interaction. To assist different international organisations in terms of the faculty support for their programmes and projects.

5 ACTIVITIES PERFORMED The department is intensively engaged in accomplishing its objectives through the conduct of Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDPs), Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) in Entrepreneurship Development and Industry Institute Interaction, Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps (EACs) for students, Programmes on effective management of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and Training programmes for Training & Place-ment officers of Technical Institutions. The EDIC department is engaged in conduct of the activities in the following domains: 1. Education & Training 2. Research & Development 3. Instructional Material Development (Print & Nonprint) 4. Extension Services 5. Consultancy Services

EDUCATION AND TRAINING The activities along this dimension encompasses: Teaching the subjects of Entrepreneurship Development, Total Quality Management, Organisational Behaviour, Principles of Management, and Research Methodology to M.Tech. students. Conducting short term courses (STCs) of 1-2 weeks duration for polytechnic and engineering college teachers / managers / administrators / entrepreneurs / professionals of northern region. The department conducts an average of 15 programmes annually Conducting national level short term training programmes/ AICTE / DST sponsored Summer / Winter Schools of 1-2 weeks duration for teachers / managers / administrators from engineering colleges and polytechnics of the country. The department conducts an average of 3-4 such pro-grammes annually. EXTENSION SERVICES The activities along this dimension encompasses: Assistance to DST (NSTEDB division)/aicte/small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and other national and state level organizations in promotion of entrepreneurship and Industry Institute Interaction. Assistance to National Project Implementation Unit (Govt. Of India) for Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP). Assistance to AICTE and State Government for Evaluation of Technical and Management Institutions. Assistance to Engineering colleges/polytechnics and other institutions in the conduct of entrepreneurship related programs (Planning, Implementation and Faculty Support) Set up of Entrepreneurship Development and Industry Institution Cells in Engineering Colleges/Polytechnics Interaction visits of International delegations from different institutions. Assistance to Engineering Colleges/Polytechnics and other institutions in signing MoUs/MoAs with Industries Assistance to International Organisations for Entrepreneurship, Quality, Strategic Planning etc. related programmes and projects.

CONSULTANCY SERVICES The activities along this dimension encompasses: The department provides consultancy services to different national and international organisations in the area of its expertise. 13 COLLABORATIVE ARRANGEMENTS The EDIC department also fosters the collaboration of NITTTR, Chandigarh with other institutions to enable it to achieve its vision and mission. Some of the important activities being coordinated by the EDIC department includes the signing of MoU of NITTTR with: DTEIT Punjab, ITI Rajpura & MOI Engg. Ltd., Mohali in June, 1995 DTEIT Punjab and CII (NR) in Feb, 1990 PHD CCI in December, 1992 UGC - IIET, Manimajra in May, 2001 PTU Gian Jyoti School of TQM & Entrepreneurship, Mohali in Jan, 2004

14 Books Published 30 books on Entrepreneurship, Industry Institute Interaction, TQM, Marketing, General Management, Management of SMEs Modules Prepared 45 modules on various subjects of Entrepreneurship Management, TQM, MIS, KMS, Six Sigma etc. Program Booklets Prepared More than 50 programme booklets prepared on various STCs conducted by the department National Events Organized 18 National Conferences/Workshops/Seminars on Entrepreneurship, Industry Institute Interaction and Management 20 Summer/Winter Schools/Refresher Courses in various areas of Entrepreneurship and Management Programmes for Potential Entrepreneurs - The department has conducted a large number of Entrepreneurship Development programmes for potential Science & Technology and Women Entrepreneurs. These programmes were sponsored by DST, Govt. of India and SIDBI having a duration of 4-6 weeks each. The entrepreneurs produced by the department have won Awards at National level. In addition the department has also conducted a large number of Self Employment programmes under the aegis of Prime Minister s Rozgar Yojana. These programmes were sponsored by DIC, Chandigarh and significant number of persons were assisted in setting up micro ventures. The department has also organized Skill-cum-Technology Up gradation Program (STUP) and Small Industries Managerial Assistance Programmes (SIMAP). These programmes were sponsored by SIDBI and conducted for working professionals from the industry.

EDIC faculty taught in various international institutions like CPSC Manila and other associated international institutions/agencies on invitation Faculty of department has chaired technical sessions in various International Conferences/Seminars.

16 INFRASTRUCTURE & FACILITIES The department has classrooms and a Web-based Teaching Learning System (TLS) Laboratory. In the laboratory the potential entrepreneurs are guided in searching for the new entrepreneurial opportunities which can be tapped by them for setting up of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. In addition the department has experiential exercises and games which are administered to participants for their self evaluation and better understanding of the concepts taught.
