1 SECTION C: GENERAL SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION Section C provides a repository for statements about ethics and handbooks. CAB/GAB CCA CCA-E CHCA Professional Ethics General Complaint Procedures Complaint Form Handbooks and Directives

2 Code: CCA GENERAL COMPLAINT PROCEDURES It is the policy of Laramie County School District #2 to try and solve complaints at the lowest possible level. If there is a complaint, the first step is to arrange a visit with whom you have the disagreement. Most complaints can be solved at this point. However, if the complaint is not resolved, there are further steps to follow. These progressive steps are outlined below and will be helpful in resolving complaints. Administrators will ensure that the process has been followed as appropriate. Complaint Process 1. If the complaint involves a staff member, contact the staff member during school either before school, after school, or during planning time. (The school secretary can provide information on available planning time.) Set a meeting, if necessary. 2. If the complaint involves a student, contact the school counselor or building principal. They will investigate and try to resolve the issue. 3. If the issue is not resolved, contact the building principal. If needed, arrange a meeting with the principal. If appropriate, the staff member and the student will be invited. During the meeting, fill out a complaint form with all pertinent information. 4. If the issue is still unresolved, contact the superintendent. If needed, arrange a meeting with the superintendent. The superintendent will request the complaint form from the principal. 5. The superintendent will investigate all pertinent information, visit with those involved, and provide a written response to the complainant. 6. If the issue is regarding an administrative guideline, and the complainant or superintendent feels the administrative guideline needs to be reviewed, the complainant or superintendent may ask to have the Board review the policy at the next board meeting. Nonretaliation No retaliation or reprisal of any kind shall be taken against any person participating in the complaint process either as a complainant, a witness, or respondent, by reason of such participation. Confirmed acts of retaliation, threats or intimidation may result in disciplinary and/or legal action. Adoption Date: May 12, 2008

4 Code: CAB/GAB PROFESSIONAL ETHICS All employees of Laramie County School District No. 2 will at all times: 1. Uphold the honor and dignity of their profession in all actions and relations with pupils, colleagues, school board members, and the public. 2. Obey local, state, and national laws; hold to high moral standards and remain loyal to their country and to the cause of democracy and liberty. 3. Accept the responsibility to master and contribute to the growing body of specialized knowledge, concepts, and skills that characterize school administration as a profession. 4. Strive to provide the best possible educational experiences and opportunities to all persons in the district. 5. Seek to preserve and enhance the prestige and status of the profession. 6. Render professional services to their best ability and carry out in good faith all policies and regulations duly adopted by the local and state authorities. 7. Honor the public trust of the position above any economic or social reward. 8. Never permit considerations of private gain or personal economic interest to affect the discharge of professional duties. 9. Recognize that the public schools are the public s business and seek to keep the public fully and honestly informed about its schools. Adoption Date: February 14, 2005

5 Code CHCA HANDBOOKS AND DIRECTIVES In order that pertinent Board policies, District regulations, and departmental and/or school rules and procedures may be known by District personnel and students affected by them, District administrators and principals develop staff and student handbooks as necessary. The Board shall review and approve prior to May 15 th of each year the District-wide personnel handbooks and school student handbooks. It is essential that the contents of handbooks conform with District-wide policies and regulations. It is also important that all handbooks bearing the name of the District or one of its schools be of a quality that reflects credit on the District. All handbooks are intended as a guide for the efficient and professional performance of this school district and the employees and students of the district. Nothing in the handbook shall be construed to be a contract between the employer and the employee. The handbook should not be construed by any employee as containing binding terms and conditions of employment. Adoption Date: February 14, 2005
