Tiddlers Day Nursery The construction of a new detached single-storey timber-framed Nursery School and external landscaping within the occupied grounds of Saltford Primary School
5 Weston College The Hub Works incorporated the strip-out of an existing single storey Hub building and construction of a new building over to create offices, teaching areas and state of the art bistro. The project included new piled foundations along with a substantial steel frame, composite roofing system, through coloured render finishes and curtain walling. Internally the building is finished to an extremely high standard and includes an accessible lift and a bespoke reception counter. The build was completed to a BREEAM Excellent standard. 6 B&NES Council One Stop Shop The refurbishment of a redundant retail unit to create new administration and service areas providing a One Stop Shop for Bath and North East Somerset Council. This complex scheme involved a high level of liaison with the project stakeholders as the building remained operational throughout the build period. Facilities provided included a new café/servery area, private meeting rooms with demountable partitions and a Shopmobility area. Value: 400k Sector: Commercial Programme: 13 Weeks Open plan customer service space New café and seating area Hillside Court The full strip out and refurbishment of a two storey office development including the reconfiguration of externals. This fast track project evolved from completing shell and core refurbishment for a prospective tenant into a fully defined serviced office space. Mechanical and electrical packages drove the programme and formed the critical path which required careful sequencing due to the large number of trades operating in the building at the same time. Highly specified WCs, shower and kitchen facilities alongside new parking and bike storage arrangements have helped to transform existing redundant spaces into a modern office development. 7 University of Bristol - Wills Memorial Library This challenging project completed within the high profile Grade I listed Wills Memorial Building consisted of the sensitive refurbishment, upgrade and refresh of its libraries and entrance foyers. The scope of works included structural openings which were subsequently dressed with natural stone; bespoke joinery and French Polishing with the inclusion of feature bronze work; sensitive stone cleaning and repairs. All of which were completed in line with the expectations of the Conservation Officer. M&E systems were fully replaced with considerable effort taken to ensure the modern system install remained visually in keeping with the fabric of the building. 9 Bristol Musuem Installation of a new lift shaft and the refurbishment of internal spaces at the iconic, listed Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, improving access for all visitors. This challenging project included the forming of a new steel frame and blockwork lift shaft which was clad in high quality zinc materials within the occupied building. The new passenger lift has been required within the Museum for some time to improve its visitor experience and general function. 10 Cambridge House Complex vertical extension to the 5th floor of an occupied building in the centre of Bath with inclusion of 3rd and 4th floor refurbishment. The 5th floor extension comprised of a complex steel frame erection and carefully sequenced temporary works to ensure the disturbance to Southgate shopping centre was kept to a minimum. On completion of the structure to the 5th floor, the fit out elements commenced at a fast pace. This was controlled through detailed programming allowing the project to be finished, snagged and handed over to an exceptional standard with spaces being let during the course of the build. Value: 1m Sector: Commercial Programme: 24 Weeks Standing seam roof and external cladding Internal glass balustrades Rednock School This project comprised of new build shower and changing facilities at Rednock School which benefitted both the school and the Football Foundation. Successfully using design and build procurement allowed Bray & Slaughter to work closely with the client, ensuring that their requirements were fully incorporated into the scheme and were delivered to an exceptionally high standard. The build programme unfortunately fell during some of the wettest periods on record which put enormous pressure on the site team to maintain the programme. This was successfully completed and the structure became watertight just in time to allow its fit out to proceed and allow for a timely handover. 11 Marlborough Cricket Pavilion This fast track project included a mixture of new build and refurbishment works that were combined to provide an extended and refreshed facility. Left: Catering facility Below: Long room The scope of works included re-roofing the existing structure, reconfiguration of internal walls, a three storey masonry extension, new windows and doors and external stone cleaning. The end result has provided new shower and changing facilities, as well as communal spaces used for dining and events with the provision of new cooking facilities. New formed balconies have also been manufactured and erected to replicate original features of the building and to ensure it is used to its maximum potential. 12 RUH Dermatology This project required an extremely high quality finish in line with hospital cleanliness guidelines, all health and safety and environmental concerns were also met. Tiddlers Day Nursery The construction of a new detached single-storey timber-framed Nursery School and external landscaping within the occupied grounds of Saltford Primary School. There were complex mechanical and electrical works which had to be linked back to the main hospital systems and the project demonstrated many examples of high levels of Bray & Slaughter quality and expertise (including bespoke desks and a nurse base). Works comprised of site strip, block and beam slab and load bearing blockwork walls with large timber sections supporting the roof and forming the internal and external walls. The Nursery incorporates IT points, administration space, kitchens, WC facilities and storage areas. The intense programme incorporated numerous client changes and was met by the professional, experienced Bray & Slaughter site team. Value: 600K Sector: Healthcare Programme: 16 Weeks Nurse base Scrub up sink This site received praise through the Considerate Constructor Scheme audits for various on-site activities, including the Digger H&S Awareness Day held for pupils of the School and Nursery. Through good planning Bray & Slaughter were able to hand the project over on budget and in good time to enable them to take delivery of their Community Playthings furniture. 13 University of Bristol Cellular Biology The conversion of an existing common room and balcony area into laboratory space and office areas, this was a logistically challenged project due to difficult, minimal access to work space and highly occupied surrounding areas. There were extensive demolition works and technical structural propping was required to form openings and minimise load through the building fabric. Controlled demolition work was managed outside of term time and within a very short timescale. Erection of scaffold service ramp to enable the movement of debris and materials, avoiding the internal aspects of the building. These works were delivered with minimal disruption to adjacent libraries, lecture theatres and other building users. 14 University of Bristol Wickham Theatre The creation of a new front entrance plateau, ramps and steps, including new entrance canopy and internal refurbishment works to the Drama Department at the University of Bristol. This project involved working within an occupied building to refurbish internal spaces and reconfigure and extend the entranceway, improving the teaching, learning space and access arrangements for undergraduates in the Drama department. Externally, a paved entrance was built with ramps and seats leading to a new timber-faced entrance canopy. This has particularly improved access arrangements which are now DDA compliant. The externals were finished with tree planters and other soft landscaping with the inclusion of new signage. Value: 250K Sector: Education Programme: 12 Weeks New branding and external elements Entrance University of Bristol No.1 and No.11 Priory Rd The design and refurbishment of No.1 and No.11 Priory Road villas that form the accommodation for the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law. These works involved a new timber staircase to No.1, the formation of new WC areas and tea points and refurbishment of offices and communal areas including new FR glazed screens. In No.11, the works consisted of refurbishing all four floors for study and office spaces, including reconfiguring the entrance lobby with glazed screens and a new welcome desk. Both properties had external works carried out including decorations. Much care and attention to detail was needed to enable the delicate restoration of the period features, including the mosaic tiled flooring and stained glass windows. New stairs were also designed and built to sympathise with the period features of the properties. 15 Somerset Place External fabric replacement, stone replacements, new roof and lead dormers, timber treatment, replacement and repair of lime plaster, decorative cornice work, balcony strengthening and repairs, new internal staircases and decorations to this Georgian Grade I listed crescent in Bath. Background image: The Grade I listed crescent This high profile scheme was completed in 36 weeks over 2 phases and involved full scaffolding and sheeting, roof replacement, building fabric upgrades, internal alterations and structural repairs.the objective was to restore and repair the dilapidated elements of the buildings and to provide a 10 year warranty for the properties. Bray & Slaughter utilised their in-house skills and ability with the engagement and management of specialists to deliver a high quality, cost effective project. They were praised for their good neighbourliness and the considerate way in which they planned and completed the works.
