8 ABSTRACT Název: Téma samoty a iluze v díle Edwarda Albeeho Klíčová slova: Edward Albee, americké poválečné drama, absurdní drama, samota, iluze, únik z reality, burcování ze života v polospánku Dílo poválečného amerického dramatika Edwarda Albeeho je prostoupeno pocitem izolovanosti, nedostatku komunikace a samoty. Galerie osamělých hrdinů zahrnuje staré lidi, o které nikdo nestojí, zoufalce, kteří jsou ochotni zaplatit vlastním životem za vřelé lidské slovo, či postavy, které se nemohou zbavit smutku ze ztráty milované osoby. Postavy v Albeeho dramatech si jako reakci na nepřátelství okolního světa vytvářejí své vlastní světy vnitřní a uchylují se tak do záludné říše nezdravých iluzí. Tyto iluze mohou mít povahu lpění na pomíjivých jistotách materiálního zabezpečení, soukromých her mezi manželi, kdy jim vlastní fantazie nahrazují prázdnotu jalových životů, či upnutí se na víru ve vyšší substanci. Autor varuje před životem v pohodlné iluzi a burcuje čtenáře či diváka s tím, že je potřeba postavit se k realitě čelem a neprožít vlastní život jako pouhá mrtvolná mátoha. Tato dominující tématika v Albeeho hrách odráží dobové existenciální úzkosti, které nalezneme ve velké části poválečné literatury. Albee problematiku uchopuje pomocí postupů absurdního divadla, jehož je ve Spojených státech prvním exponentem. Dědictví absurdismu však přetváří způsobem sobě vlastním a vytváří tak svébytnou podobu divadla, které je spojením obeznámenosti s evropským dramatem a navazováním na velké postavy amerického dramatu, jako jsou Eugene O Neill, Tennessee Williams a Arthur Miller. Albee tak tvoří významný zjev amerického poválečného divadla a je nepřehlédnutelnou postavou v dějinách jeho vývoje. 78
