MCCCD BACKGROUND CHECK POLICY REQUIREMENTS Students seeking admissin t an MCCCD Allied Health r Nursing Prgram (Prgram) will be required t btain a valid Level-One Arizna Department f Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card (FCC Card) AND a passing scre n an MCCCD backgrund check. This plicy precludes MCCCD faculty r staff frm assigning students t a clinical experience wh cannt meet the new requirements. Please review the plicy annuncement and FAQs n the MCCCD website Upn admissin t the prgram, students are required t present a cpy f the DPS card and apply fr the MCCCD Backgrund Check. Students bear the financial csts fr bth the MCCCD Backgrund Check and the AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card. Students will receive Infrmatin regarding the MCCCD Backgrund Check after admissin, but prir t the beginning f the prgram. We encurage students t apply fr the card early in the applicatin prcess. Please allw a minimum f eight weeks prcessing time fr the DPS Level-One Fingerprint Clearance card. The card is valid fr six years frm the date f issue. DRUG SCREENING Each student must g thrugh a preclinical drug screen prir t beginning the first clinical rtatin. Drug screening fr all Physical Therapist Assisting students is mandatry. The cst fr tests will be the respnsibility f the student. The urine drug screen will test fr alchlic beverages; illegal drugs, r drugs that may impair judgment while in the clinical agency. If the drug test is psitive fr the illegal drugs r undcumented prescriptin drugs, the student will nt be able t cntinue in the prgram. Readmissin is at the discretin f the cllege and the prgram. What happens when I am accepted int the prgram? All applicants accepted int the prgram will be ntified by . It is therefre very imprtant that the cllege be ntified f any changes. The prgram fficially begins the first week f the fall and spring semesters each year. Infrmatin regarding registratin and rientatin sessin will be sent t the admitted applicants alng with the admittance . Admitted applicants are expected t return the frmal ntificatin indicating their intent t attend the prgram. IF THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT IS NOT RETURNED BY THE DATE SPECIFIED, THE APPLICANT S POSITION IN THE PROGRAM WILL BE FORFEITED. Can I cntinue in the prgram if I am pregnant r becme pregnant? Graduates f an accredited assciate degree prgram wh pass the entry-level exam, the written registry exam, and clinical simulatin exams given by the Natinal Bard fr Respiratry Care (NBRC) earn the RRT credential fr Registered Respiratry Therapist. Graduates f the GateWay Cmmunity Cllege Respiratry Care Prgram receive an Assciate s Degree and are eligible t sit fr all NBRC examinatins. In additin, a state license t practice must be btained. Can I apply previusly earned cllege credits t this prgram f study? Previusly earned cllege credits may be acceptable twards degree requirements; hwever, transcripts must be evaluated fr equivalency with the Respiratry Care Prgram Directr r a GateWay Cmmunity Cllege Prgram Advisr/Cunselr. In additin, Respiratry Care graduates may further advance their careers thrugh GateWay Cmmunity Cllege s Ultrasund and Nuclear Medicine prgrams r cmplete a Bachelr f Science in Respiratry Care by distance learning thrugh Nrthern Arizna University ( If I have a criminal recrd, will that prhibit me frm being successful in this career? Pssibly; ur clinical agreements with the healthcare facilities require that ur students receive a Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizna Department f Public Safety. Additinally, a student must nt be listed n the Federal Gvernment s Office f the Inspectr General s Exclusin List. Students wh are unable t btain either f these clearances will be prhibited frm attending their clinical experience. What can I expect if I am accepted int the prgram? The curriculum is ffered as a full-time day prgram ver a mnth perid. Lecture, labratry and clinical classes are held Mnday thrugh Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Fr students wh wrk while attending the prgram, it is recmmended that wrk hurs be reduced due t the time required fr study and class preparatin. Student clinical rtatins are designed t prvide expsure t a variety f clinical experiences in the hspital setting. Students must prvide their wn transprtatin t clinical rtatin sites.
