1 Profile Outlook At present, Tom Auwers holds a senior management position at the Belgian Federal Public Service of Social Security as director-general of Strategy and International Affairs. Being member of the board of directors, he is accountable for several key processes in the Belgian social security network: contract management of 16 Belgian social security agencies, representation of Belgian authorities at EU, OECD & UN level, closing multi- & bilateral social security agreements, leading international research programs on the future of the Belgian welfare state. Tom has been the Belgian EU coordinator of the Belgian EU 2010 presidency for social affairs. He has also been a crisis manager on specific request of the minister of social affairs. He has led organizations from 100 up to 500 people and managed budgets worth 160 million. Since 2003, Tom has been the program leader of all major change initiatives conducted in the FPS, starting with the BPR s installing the new organization of the FPS up to the cultural re-invention program called NoVo, worth a 10 million investment. Before taking up his management function, Tom has built up a track record in the area of change management, in particular in traditional administrative bureaucracies. He s been on the forefront of administrative reinvention in Belgium, more specifically as a performance management advisor to the Flemish minister of budgeting and as chief of staff of the Federal Minister of Civil Service and program leader of the Copernicus Reform in the federal government. Tom has proven being successful in taking up multiple management roles simultaneously within complex organizational environments. Being leader on innovative public management practices, he and his team have been rewarded with several European and Belgian awards. He is president of the Flemish public management association and holds several positions as a board member in the cultural sector.
