2 Overview Backup/Recovery Plan North Florida Community College recognizes that a significant threat exists to its ability to continue normal business operations following a serious unexpected disruptive incident. The organization has a high level of dependency upon its automated systems and processes and this creates risks which need to be mitigated. The organization further recognizes that it needs to recover from disruptive incidents in the minimum possible time and that this necessity to ensure a speedy restoration of services requires a significant level of advance planning and preparation. This Disaster Recovery Plan has been prepared to assist the organization to manage a serious disruptive crisis in a controlled and structured manner. It contains information on emergency contact details, procedures to be implemented and communication processes to be followed in response to a serious disruptive event. This plan covers two levels of disruptive events. Level 1: An event that renders the organizations data center hardware and software unusable. Level 2: An event that renders the mission critical database software unusable, not accessible, or invalid. Scope of the plan: This plan only includes our mission critical systems. Our mission critical systems consist of the hardware and software components that support the functional areas of student records, financial accounting, human resources, and payroll. Page 2

3 Backup Procedures Our functional areas of student records, financial accounting, human resources, and payroll are in one integrated database application. The application is SCT/Banner release This application operates in an Oracle Database, version 11g, and the operating system is Linux 5 server. The application is stored on a Dell Poweredge 2950 server. The supporting software and applications for the access of student records, financial accounting, human resources, and payroll, along with file, , print, and application servers are housed in a virtual server farm running VMware ESX 5.0 on two IBM x3550 servers with two quad-core processors and 52 GB of memory each with a NetApp FAS 2020 controller and hard drive shelf with approximately 12 TB of storage space. At the DR site in Building 2 we have the same virtualization equipment as a mirror to the main data center. Mirror Procedures: Current: Files written to volumes on a virtual server in the Building 5 Datacenter are written to the corresponding mirror server at the DR site in Building 2 utilizing the transport bandwidth on the internal network infrastructure. Planned: Files written to volumes on a virtual server in the Building 35 Bunker Data-center are written to the corresponding mirror server at the DR site in the Building 5 Data-center utilizing the transport bandwidth on the internal network infrastructure. This will essentially solve any DR scenario since the bunker is supported by a generator and the bunker is designed to withstand 200 mph winds. Backup Procedures: Database and application files are backed up in Snaps on the NetApp SAN, twice daily. Files are written to an Eversync 2500 hard drive backup device housed in Building 5 monthly and archived in the safe in Building 13. Daily backup responsibilities: 1. An agreement is in place to share hardware and software resources with St. Johns River Community College and Lake Sumter Community College for the purpose of implementing access to critical resources.
