Job Summary: * Performs work, including but not limited to providing the school with general computer technical support; maintaining computer laboratories, supporting student and teacher laboratory operations; reporting major technology issues to the technology department; and serving as a member of the school team. Work Tasks/Responsibilities: * Provides the school with basic computer technical support. Serves as the computer technologist; installs computers and peripheral equipment, computer software; wires and hooks up computers to the internet; upgrades equipment; installs memory and circuit board cards in the computer; makes minor hardware repairs; troubleshoots to diagnose equipment/system problems; conducts equipment repairs; clears computer errors resulting from hardware and/or software causes; advises selections of software programs for use; and serves as

2 liaison with the technology department to restore computers to service when major software/hardware/network glitches occur. * Maintains the computer systems. Makes minor hardware repairs and makes software changes to restore services; calls technology department hotline or prepares BOLT ticket if services cannot be restored with assistance; reboots computer and/or system after repairs are completed; maintains records of repair/maintenance performed on equipment; and conducts minor repairs on all media center audio-video equipment. Work Tasks/ Responsibilities: Supports student and teacher computer operation. Monitors student activities; helps students to maintain learning focus; ensures that students are working at their optimum learning levels; tutors and works one-on-one with students; enhances and reinforces skills taught in the classroom; provides students assistance with learning problems and teachers in monitoring student work; integrates computer laboratory work with student work in classroom; assists teachers with placement of students; monitors laboratory schedules and provides training to teachers and other school staff members. Serves as a member of the school team. Performs non-computer technology associate services to supplement school staff personnel shortages. Job Specification: Knowledge: Basic knowledge of computers and telecommunications equipment Basic knowledge of computer software Basic knowledge of computer hardware/software installation and troubleshooting Skills: Craft skills such as electrical to disconnect/ connect computers, basic network wiring, and back-up battery installation Coordinating skills to schedule computer lab time; to maintain error and maintenance logs, and inventory of equipment Analytical skills to determine computer or equipment malfunction

3 Communication skills to instruct student and teachers on proper use of hardware and software and to discuss progress of students with their teachers Basic computer skills to maintain and troubleshoot hardware, network, and software Leadership skills to motivate students working in computer labs Manual skills to clean monitors and keyboards, replace batteries, and minor computer equipment repairs Mechanical skills to keep computers, printers, cables, and switch boxes in good repair and to install hardware Planning skills to plan and promote technology workshops Mathematical skills to maintain inventory of computer equipment Software/word processing skills to develop reports, tutor computer skills, solve problems in computer lab, maintain and install programs, and back-up student data as required Equipment: Equipment used includes computers, peripherals, printers, various computer software programs, and telecommunications equipment Safety of Others: Some responsibility for the safety of others Work Direction: Work involves treating a variety of problems, questions, and situations in conformance with established criteria Works under general supervision

4 Decision Making: Incumbent uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instructions and judgment in locating and selecting the most appropriate guidelines, references, and procedures Problem Solving: Problems solved relate to equipment malfunctions, misuse of equipment by students, and/or determining students level of performance; complex problems are referred to supervisor and/or technology department Communication: (within and outside of the organization) Contacts are made with students, teachers, support staff, and outside vendors to obtain/ relay factual information Working Conditions: Job is performed in an office or computer lab environment; injury from electrical shock is possible; ordinary care and precaution required Physical: Work involves frequent standing, walking, and some lifting Manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination are required Experience: (number of years required) Two years computer hardware and software use and maintenance experience Education Required: (degree required- high school through graduate degree) High school diploma Additional training or experience in computer hardware and software maintenance
