The most suitable fund option will depend on individual customer needs and this sales aid helps explain how each option works by comparing the funds. The and PruFund range are available for retirement planning through: > Flexible Retirement Plan: for Personal Pensions and SIPP for Income Drawdown > Trustee Investment Plan continued overleaf

4 What are the differences between the PruFund range and With-Profits? Investment growth How is volatility smoothed? PruFund Range In addition to the natural smoothing provided by the asset diversification employed, the PruFund range uses a transparent formulaic smoothing process designed to smooth short term volatility either up or down. In addition to the natural smoothing provided by the asset diversification employed, our aims to smooth some of the extreme ups and downs of short-term investment performance. We achieve this by holding back some of the investment returns in good years with the aim of using this to support bonus rates in years where investment returns are lower. How do customers share in the growth of the Fund? How are investment fluctuations dealt with? Each fund has an Expected Growth Rate (EGR). This is published quarterly in advance. Investments will normally benefit from the EGR on a daily basis through an increase in the smoothed unit price. We use a transparent formula to smooth some of the ups and downs of the markets. If actual returns are within certain limits the unit price will not need to be adjusted and investments will grow steadily at the EGR. However, if actual returns fall outside these limits then we may need to make adjustments to reflect actual returns in the Fund. The unit price may be adjusted at any time and the change could be up or down. As the EGR reflects longer term investment expectations we do not anticipate changing the rate very often. Any changes to the EGR will only take place at quarter end dates. In certain circumstances we may not apply the smoothing process for one or more of the PruFund funds this is known as suspension of smoothing. If this happens, the unit price for that fund will increase or decrease daily in line with the value of the underlying investments. The value is determined by the way Fund profits are distributed to the customer in the form of Regular, and possibly, Final bonuses. Regular bonuses are added throughout the year via the daily unit price. When we set regular bonus rates, the main thing we consider is the return we expect our investments to earn in the future. We hold back some of this return with the aim of paying a proportion of the proceeds as final bonuses. Final bonuses are based on the longer term returns achieved in the Fund and are not guaranteed. If final bonuses are paid they are only paid when investments are withdrawn from the Fund and can be reduced or removed at any time. When investments are withdrawn we reserve the right to apply a Market Value Reduction (MVR). This ensures that the return on the customer s plan is based on the earnings of the over the period the customer has been invested in the Fund. An MVR may be applied where the underlying asset value is less than the plan value including all regular and final bonuses. For more information please refer to Your With-Profits Plan A guide to how we manage the Fund (WPGB0031). For more information please refer to Your With-Profits Plan A guide to how we manage the Fund (WPGB0027). 4 Adviser Guide

5 What are the differences between the PruFund range and With-Profits? Guarantees These are the differences which apply to new investments into these funds from 11th November For investments prior to this date, please refer to the Product Key Features issued when the investment was made. What guarantees are available? When is the guarantee available? Can my client switch in to the guarantee? What are the charges for guarantees? What is the minimum outstanding term to access fund? PruFund Range We offer a range of guarantee terms for both PruFund Protected Cautious Fund and PruFund Protected Growth Fund, where the guarantee will only apply at the end of the selected guarantee term. The guarantee will only apply at the end of the selected term. If you fully switch out of a PruFund Protected Fund or cancel your plan before the end of the selected guarantee term, then the guarantee will not apply and the charge will stop and you cannot switch back in to a PruFund Protected Fund within twelve months. Yes, switches into the PruFund Protected Funds can be made at any time, except where the remaining term is less than the minimum guarantee term available. Each guarantee term has its own charge and this will be payable for the whole of this term. For full details of the guarantee terms available and the associated charges, please refer to the document The PruFund Range of Funds: Guarantee Options INVS You can get a copy of this from PruFund Growth Pension Fund: 1 year PruFund Cautious Pension Fund: 1 year PruFund Protected Pension Funds: Subject to the minimum and maximum guarantee terms currently available. We guarantee not to apply a Market Value Reduction (MVR) in some circumstances. For the Flexible Retirement Plan, we guarantee that we will not apply an MVR: > at Selected Retirement Age for Personal Pension > at Anticipated Annuitisation Age (AAA) for Income Drawdown > on death We also guarantee that no MVR will apply on: > regular withdrawals or on death for a member designated Trustee Investment Plan. Switches into the can be made at any time, as long as there are at least 10 years until SRA or for Income Drawdown the client is aged under 85 and there are at least 10 years until AAA. For the Trustee Investment Plan, for member designated plans the member must be under age 85. There is a charge to pay for all guarantees the supports. The total deduction for the guarantee charge over the lifetime of the plan is not currently more than 2% of any payment made from the fund. We will review the amount of the charge from time to time. The charge is taken by making small adjustments to regular and final bonuses. 10 years for the Flexible Retirement Plan. The Trustee Investment Plan is an open ended investment so there is no minimum outstanding term. Adviser Guide 5

7 Who will these investment options suit? Diversification helps avoid the customer being over reliant on the performance of a limited range of asset classes. Pension clients Income Drawdown clients PruFund Range > As clients near retirement, their capacity for loss may be reduced, so the smoothing mechanism can help to provide greater certainty for their retirement plans. > Guarantees, available on the PruFund Protected Funds, can provide protection for all or part of their fund, whilst also offering the potential for growth. > Clients who want to take their tax free cash, but no income, may look to use PruFund Funds to protect the value of their remaining fund, and may use the additional security of guarantees on the PruFund Protected Funds. > The smoothing mechanism can help to reduce the impact of investment market conditions on their fund value and therefore their potential income. > Clients can protect all or part of their retirement fund using PruFund Protected Funds, knowing that they plan to use this fund to provide retirement income at a future date. > Clients who want security of their retirement fund value, know that we guarantee that we will not apply a Market Value Reduction at their Selected Retirement Age (SRA). > Clients who want to retain their guarantees and any bonuses their investment has earned. At AAA we guarantee that we will not apply an MVR. TIP clients > Clients may look to alternative investments to balance the higher risk assets which they may hold in their SIPP or SSAS scheme. > Clients may be willing to take some investment risk to gain returns above the low returns available from cash investments. They can use guarantees of PruFund Protected Funds to reduce this investment risk. > Clients may look to alternative investments to balance the higher risk assets which they may hold in their SIPP or SSAS scheme. > Clients do not want their income returns to be reduced, we guarantee that we will not apply an MVR for regular withdrawals.
