1 COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER - WEST JULY 2015 Dear Residents, Families and Friends, Please join me in welcoming Summer warmth and spirits throughout the Community. The warm days of the season bring many outdoor activities and fun to be had in the sun. We greet July with enthusiasm, ready to begin a celebration of freedom and independence. On this Independence day, let s take the time to express gratitude for our freedom that is still upheld today. Let us quietly thank our forefathers for their strength of spirit and their commitment to their vision of The land of the free and the home of the brave. Join us for our Freedom Celebration on Saturday, July 4th. We are celebrating with fireworks, live entertainment, and ice cream sundaes. Our Brunch will be held on Sunday, July 12th at noon. Enjoy fantastic food prepared by our culinary team, live music and great company. Please RSVP by Monday, July 6th. As always, my door is open for suggestions and comments. 2 Daniel Misner Daniel was born January 4th, 1935 in Fresno, Ca. He is 1 of 7 children born to Audrey and Dan Misner. He was married to his wife, Wilma on October 23, 1956 in Yuma, Az. After 59 years of marriage, Wilma passed away in January Dan is the father of three boys, Dan, Richard, and Timothy. He has 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, some of which visit him regularly here at Vintage. Dan attended San Deiguito High School in Encinitas, Ca. In November of 1953, he joined the United States Marine Corp. He proudly served as a Tank Crewman in the Korean War. He also was a projectionist for the Marine Corp. After an Honorable discharge, he went to work for the US Post Office. He was a mailman for over 30 years, in Ontario, Vallejo, and finally, Midway City, Ca. Dan and Wilma Retired to the community of Calimesa, Ca. in the mid 1980 s, where they happily remained until her passing. Dan s favorite activity was camping as a family. He owned several different camping trailers over the years, which the family used for travels all throughout California and the Western US. His favorite camping spot in California was Dogwood campground in the National Parks of the San Bernardino mountains. His favorite vacation destination was Estes Park in the Colorado Rockies. Dan has become a regular participant in the activities available at Vintage, including the photography club, bingo, happy hour and dominoes. His favorite is the weekly scenic drives. Dan grew up and lived in or near, several Beach area communities and loves to reminisce as the van drives the coast routes, both North and South. He also loves the food and companionship he has experienced in the dining room since he has been here. We have all enjoyed having Dan join our Vintage family! Pearls melt in vinegar. Monique Moreira, Med Tech Monique was born and raised in Whittier, Ca. She has 5 sisters and 3 brothers. She has just completed her internship for Surgical Technology and is working on her degree as surgical nurse. She is currently working in the operating room of the Beverly Hills Surgery Center, directly under the plastic surgeon. Monique also takes care of her grandmother, at least four days a week. Her interests lie in all vintage and antique jewelry, clothing and furniture. She is a blues singer and Elvis has always been her all time favorite entertainer. She is a very thoughtful Med Tech and always gives 100% to all of our residents. Congratulations on being our Associate of the Month. Thank you for going above and beyond!
