2 AIMS The association aims at both supporting and cross linking research in the field of eating disorders and adopting research in prevention, early detection, clinical investigation and treatment. In detail the aims of the association are: 1. Development and support of a network of persons of various professions who are specialized in early detection and prevention as well as in councelling and treatment of patients with eating disorders. 2. Improvement of prevention strategies, early detection, diagnostic and treatment of patients with eating disorders. 3. Support and coordination of self help initiatives of patiens and family members. 4. Support of research both in eating disorders and their medical, psychological and social environment. 5. Support of education and training in prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders. 6. Councelling of and cooperation with public institutions. 7. Support of cooperation with other national and international associations.
3 The DGESS has 64 members. Because it is a scientific association the proof of research in the field of eating disorders is necessary for a membership.
4 Scientific Congresses Every second year the DGESS organizes a scientific congress with national and international experts. 1. 5 Clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders in Germany In 2006 a group of experts in eating disorders, all members of the DGESS started to work out evidenced based guidelines for the diagnoses and treatment of eating disorders in Germany. The guidelines were finished in summer 2010 and will be published at the end of the year.
