1 THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STEPS FOR RECEIVING VETERAN BENEFITS First-time or past students are required to complete the following steps: 1. Apply for benefits through the GI Bill website at If you have never received benefits before and are applying for benefits for CH-30 Montgomery GI Bill, CH-32 VEAP, CH-33 Post 9/11 GI Bill, CH-1606 Montgomery GI Bill for Selected Reservist/National Guard and CH-1607 REAP use VA Form If you will be receiving CH-35 Dependents Benefits for the first time use VA Form If you are applying for benefits under CH-33 Post 9/11 Transfer of Entitlement use VA Form e. 2. Complete you FAFSA at 3. Apply for Admission to Three Rivers College online at trcc.edu/admissions. 4. Send Diploma/Transcripts to Enrollment Services. 5. If necessary schedule and complete Compass test (must have taken Compass or ACT within last 2 years). 6. Register for classes. (Must make appointment through Welcome Center to meet with Advisor, and the classes you take must apply to the degree you are seeking in order for them to be certified.) 7. Fill out the Veterans Certification Request Form. 8. Bring paperwork to the Financial Aid office for review by the Veterans Certifying Official. 9. Contact the Veterans Certifying Official in the Financial Aid Office at with any questions. Transfer and guest students are required to complete the following steps: 1. Complete your FASFA at 2. Apply for Admission to Three Rivers College online at trcc.edu/admissions. 3. Send Transcripts to Enrollment Services. 4. For all Chapter except 35 complete VA Form , CH-35 Dependents Benefits complete VA Form and provide a copy of the form or copy of the online submission confirmation to the Financial Aid Office for your file. 5. Meet with Advisor and register for classes. (The classes you take must apply to the degree you are seeking in order for them to be certified.) 6. Guest students must provide a parent letter from their home school. 7. Fill out the Veteran Certification Request Form. 8. Bring all paperwork to the Financial Aid Office for review by the Veterans Certifying Official. 9. Contact the Veterans Certifying Official in the Financial Aid Office at with any questions. Returning students are required to complete the following steps: 1. Meet with Advisor and register for classes. 2. Each semester fill out the Veterans Certification Request Form. 3. Bring all paperwork to the Financial Aid Office for review by the Veterans Certifying Official. 4. Once yearly complete you FASFA at

2 THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI VETERAN CERTIFICATION PROCESS To be certified, the following forms/paperwork must be turned in per your benefit program: Chapter 30 Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty This program provides benefits to individuals who entered active duty on/after July 1, 1985, and participated in the Pay Reduction Program (pay reduced $100 a month for 12 months), served for (2) two years or more, earned a high school diploma or its equivalent either prior to or during the qualifying enlistment, and have an honorable discharge. Entitlement period is 36 months. Benefits expire 10 years from last discharge or separation. Copy of DD-214 Discharge Document Member 4 copy, if available. (This form is provided to you by your military branch at completion of enlistment.) Copy of kicker paperwork, if applicable. (This paperwork is provided to you by your military branch at Copy of Application for Educational Assistance, VA Form or VA Form Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation /Disabled Veterans Eligibility for this program is determined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The program provides payment of required fees and a monthly allotment. VA Form authorization form from Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. Chapter 32 Veterans Education Assistance Program (VEAP) This program provides benefits to persons who entered active duty service between Jan. 1, 1977, and June 30, 1985; served a continuous period of 181 days or more; and contributed toward the education programs. Monthly benefits are determined by adding the amount of personal contributions and DOD contributions made during the years of active service. Copy of DD-214 Discharge Document Member 4 copy, if available. (This form is provided to you by your military branch at completion of enlistment.) Copy of kicker paperwork. (This paperwork is provided to you by your military branch at time of enlistment.) Copy of Application for Educational Assistance, VA Form or VA Form Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill This program provides financial support for education and housing to veterans with at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service (excluding entry level and skill training) on or after Sept.11, 2011, or discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge. For those

3 eligible, it will pay tuition and fees directly to the school and a books and supplies stipend to the student. A housing allowance is also available, if eligible. Offers transfer of eligibility to dependents. Chapter 33 elections are irrevocable. Eligibility is determined by length of service percentage. Benefits expire 15 years from last discharge or separation. VA Form Copy of DD-214 Discharge Document Member 4 copy, if available. (This form is provided to you by your military branch at completion of enlistment.) Copy of kicker paperwork, if applicable. (This paperwork is provided to you by your military branch at Copy of Application for Educational Assistance, VA Form or VA Form For Transfer of Entitlement Application for Educational Assistance, VA Form e. Chapter 35 Survivors /Dependents Educational Assistance This program provides benefits for dependent children and spouses of veterans who died or who are 100 percent disabled due to service-connected causes. Entitlement period of 45 months. Children of dependents are eligible for 8 years and spouses for 10 years; 20 years if veteran rated permanent and total disability within 3 years of discharge. A surviving spouse is eligible for 20 years if veteran death occurs while on active duty. You must provide the veteran s file number to the VA Certifying Official. Copy of Application for Education Assistance, VA Form or VA Form Chapter 1606 Montgomery GI Bill for Selected Reservist/National Guard This program provides benefits for members of the Selected Reserve/National Guard who enlisted, re-enlisted, or extended their enlistment for a period of six years after July 1, Completion of initial active duty for training. Must be active reservist with a 6-year obligation. There is an entitlement period of 36 months. Eligibility ends on the day you leave the Selected Reserve. Certification of Eligibility received from the VA. Copy of DD-214 or Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) Form #2384. (This form is provided to you by your unit.) Copy of kicker paperwork, if applicable. (This paperwork is provided to you by your military branch at Copy of Application for Education Assistance, VA Form or VA Form Chapter 1607 REAP (Reserve Educational Assistance Program) This benefit makes certain individuals who were activated after Sept. 11, 2001, either eligible for education benefits or eligible for increased benefits. The program is designed to provide educational assistance to members of the Reserve components called or ordered to active duty in response to a war or national emergency as declared by the President or Congress and served 90 days or more in support of a contingency operation; or full time National Guard duty responding to a national emergency. Entitlement period of 36 months. Benefits expire 10 years from the separation date if separated after completing service and discharge is not dishonorable; 10 years from REAP eligibility if separated for disability. Copy of DD-214 or Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) Form #2384. (This form is provided to you by your unit.)

I understand the following may affect the monthly dollar amount of my GI Bill Educational Benefit check, as well any tuition and fees paid by the VA: I must be enrolled as a degree-seeking student. I must provide all other college transcripts to Enrollment Services for evaluation. I must notify the Certifying Official at Three Rivers if I make changes in my registration in any way. This includes dropping or adding classes, enrolling in courses not in my degree program, enrolling in an unauthorized repeat of a class (the DVA will not pay for the repeat of satisfactorily completed courses, except under special circumstances), terminating school, changing programs or majors, or any other changes that would affect my payment status. I must attend class and make satisfactory progress in accordance with Three Rivers Satisfactory Academic Progress guidelines to be eligible for certification of my benefits. If I do not make satisfactory academic progress and am suspended my Three Rivers, my GI Bill benefits cannot be resumed until I have met the requirements for reinstatement. I must complete a Veterans Registration Form each semester once I am enrolled in classes. The form, along with my class schedule, must then be turned into the Certifying Official in the Financial Aid office.
