What a privilege it is to be considered to represent the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists as President-Elect. Whether you realize it or not, this is YOUR professional association and I want to make sure it remains that way. With my previous responsibilities with the Acute Care Forum and the Board of Directors, I have been able to be involved with the positive direction NCAP is taking to prepare for the future. I hope to continue to assist the positive momentum that we have and build further on it. I have been a member of NCAP since I was a student and have been extremely impressed with the advancement NCAP has made for the profession of pharmacy. Having a merged society is the best for our profession. NCAP is actively promoting legislative issues, forwarding the practice, and involving all pharmacists in making our day-to-day activities more patient-focused. Activities / Initiatives NCAP should be working on: Continue to demonstrate the value pharmacists bring to patient care. Help to advance the recognition of pharmacists as providers. Develop innovative practice models to assist pharmacists in caring for their patients. Strive to increase membership throughout the state. Maintain an active student and new practitioner focus Unify the practice of pharmacy through a strong policy development process. Continue to strengthen an active legislative program. Actively involve members in various activities of NCAP. Provide a way for everyone to have ownership in their profession.

Lynn enjoys volunteering and has been volunteering as pharmacist at Urban Ministries Open Door Clinic since In addition, she has raised supplies and funds for the Helen Wright Center for Women and the Salvation Army Angel Tree. Now is the time to stand up for our profession and for us to be heard! This is a pivotal year with HR4190 and provider status for pharmacists. Many of us have wished for this our entire careers, and now it is here. What I find best about this opportunity is that it is uniting our profession between all the different areas of pharmacy as we have represented through the different NCAP forums- Chronic Care, Community and Health-System. It is amazing how many different pharmacist professional organizations are working together for this common goal. I hope that this direction continues and we can work together to ensure that this is just the beginning of the collaboration. We are a lot stronger and have a more solid voice as we work together. We have been lucky in North Carolina that we had the foresight to unite so many years ago, and as we continue to lead as a state others can learn from our example. I am honored for the nomination as President-Elect for NCAP and want to thank the nominating committee. I welcome the opportunity to re-energize NCAP and help us rally around the current and future possibilities with this new legislation. I look forward to the opportunity to help all understand what this means for our profession and how we can be ready and prepared when this legislation passes. I really enjoy being involved and giving back to our profession through volunteering, precepting students and mentoring. Being a part of NCAP for so many years has been extremely rewarding, and I will do my best to continue to advance the profession of pharmacy.
3 Treasurer 3 yr. term - Note: There is one (1) candidate for this position. Thomas D Andrea, RPh, MBA Tom is currently Vice-President of Pharmacy Services for Neil Medical Group, a long term care pharmacy company located in Kinston and Mooresville, North Carolina. Tom received his BS in Pharmacy from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana in His MBA degree was earned from Campbell University in Tom has experience in retail, government and long term care settings. Tom was President and owner of Medstar Pharmacy, a long term care pharmacy located in Benson, North Carolina before selling his business to NCS Healthcare and becoming a Divisional Vice-President of Operations. He has served as a Pharmacy Manager for Revco in Red Springs, North Carolina, a Facility Surveyor for the State of North Carolina Division of Facility Services, and as Pharmacy Director for the State of North Carolina Division of Medical Assistance. He has been a preceptor for the University of North Carolina, Campbell University, Howard Universty and Wingate University pharmacy students. Tom has been active in NCAP for the last two years, serving as an at large board member. He has also served as ex-officio member for the NCAP Board while working for North Carolina s Medicaid Department. NCAP provides the structure for all pharmacists to get involved and make a difference. Therefore, a great emphasis on attracting new members and retaining its current members is essential. Leadership s call is to guide its membership through the emerging issues; avoiding the pitfalls and traps that can leave members at risk. I believe NCAP needs to continue to address issues in education, reimbursement and promotion of the profession. I would be honored to serve the pharmacists of North Carolina in the role of Treasurer, and will work hard to promote our profession.
4 Jennifer Burch, PharmD, CDE, CPP Jennifer Burch received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Campbell University School of Pharmacy in She returned to Durham after pharmacy school to work at the family owned independent pharmacy, Central Pharmacy, where she was an early pioneer in getting paid for cognitive services. Since then she has opened Central Compounding Center South, a PCAB Accredited pharmacy, which focuses exclusively on preparing customized medications. Jennifer has developed a practice that is strong in patient care. Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, weight loss, diabetes and nutritional supplementation are her specialties. She is also a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) and Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP). She has a clinical practice at Novant Durham Internal Medicine where she helps to educate and manage patients with diabetes and other chronic diseases. Jennifer is very active in local, state and national pharmacy organizations. She has been an active NCAP member since pharmacy school and previously held Board positions. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists and on the Formulary Committee for Senior PharmAssist. I am honored to be considered for the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP) Board of Directors. North Carolina has long been a leader in advancing the practice of pharmacy and NCAP has helped to lead the charge. While we have long talked about pharmacy being at a cross roads, pharmacy continues to battle the challenges that threaten our ability to practice pharmacy at the highest possible level. These include adequate reimbursement for dispensing, reimbursement for MTM activities and provider status to name a few. I believe the continuing fight to build a strong and unified association that brings all pharmacists and technicians together helps to make NCAP more powerful with a louder voice. There is strength in numbers when it comes to overcoming the challenges in pharmacy. I want to help NCAP be the best pharmacy organization in the country. I thank you for your consideration and I look forward to serving NCAP.
5 David Catalano, RPh David Catalano is a Pharmacy Manager for the Walgreen Company in Raleigh, North Carolina. His primary functions are leading, managing and supporting the operations of the pharmacy, serving as the Clinical Pharmacist Lead for Walgreens HIV Specialty Network of the Southern Operations Area, and regulatory point pharmacist for NCBOP meetings. David received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology in 1987 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1994, both degrees from the University of Rhode Island. David quickly promoted to pharmacy manager at Walgreens, running the department until 1997 when he was asked to relocate to Tidewater, VA to assist in managing the growth of a new Walgreens market. In 2003, David was promoted to a supervisor s position and relocated to Raleigh, NC to supervise the growth of Walgreens in NC beyond the Charlotte market. In 2009 David resumed a role as a Pharmacy Manager allowing him to take an active role in promoting and developing the immunization and MTM programs. Through his career, David has taken an active role in state pharmacy associations. While in RI, David held a council seat helping to direct the future of pharmacy in the state. When he moved to VA, he was elected to the Treasurer s seat in the Tidewater branch of the VA Pharmacist s Association. My concerns about the strength of retail Pharmacy developed quite early in my career, especially since I come from a family of an independent pharmacy owner. I quickly learned that the way for pharmacists voices to be heard would be by working together as one strong voice from a strong state association like NCAP. I feel that the transformation of pharmacy and the pharmacist's role in the community begins at pharmacy school. Early education about the importance of one voice for pharmacy, whether working in the clinical, retail chain or independent setting, is the best way to be heard as a representative of our profession. These are great times for all pharmacists. There is a tremendous need for our professional skills as our population ages and the amount of medications being taken per person continues to increase. We are experts in our field, and we need to make sure the expertise of our trade is recognized by the people who make the laws and that our professional skills are not given to another group because of pharmacists not uniting together. I look forward to continuing in whatever roles I can with NCAP to drive our profession forward.
6 Lisa Dinkins, PharmD, BCACP Lisa Dinkins is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy and Director of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience at Wingate University School of Pharmacy. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2006 and her Board Certification in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy in She has seven years of teaching experience in the Pharmaceutical Care Labs at UNC, as well as eight years of practice experience in community and ambulatory care pharmacy. Lisa has been an active participant in the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP) since She served as a on the Community Care Practice Forum (CCPF) Executive Committee from and was instrumental in drafting administrative procedures for the forum. She has also served as Chair- Elect and Chair of the CCPF from , representing the voice of North Carolina Community Pharmacists at NCAP Board Meetings and in the planning of educational programming for the NCAP Annual Meeting. Lisa has also held offices in the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) and authored the application for the AACP Student Engaged Community Service award, which was awarded in 2009 to a student organization she advised. Additionally, Lisa was awarded the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) One-to-One Patient Counseling Award in It has been my delight to serve and work alongside members of the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists for the last five years. I have observed first-hand the impact of our collective voice on the practice of pharmacy in our state. I have enjoyed regular participation in NCAP Board of Directors meetings and feel I can offer enthusiasm and discernment as we continue to discuss issues at the forefront of our profession and our organization: provider status (H.R. 4190), immunizations, NCAP membership, student voice in NCAP, and the future of our organization. I look forward to the opportunity to continue serving North Carolina pharmacists as a on the NCAP Board of Directors.

As Chair of the New Practitioner Network, she helped develop educational programming for students and new practitioners at the annual meeting and residency conference, provided resources for students and residents on career development and interview skills, and increased awareness and resources for legislative advocacy among new practitioners. In 2013, Kira was appointed to the NCAP Ambulatory Care Task Force, which ultimately restructured the practice forums to include a home within the Health-Systems forum and provide valuable resources for practicing ambulatory care pharmacists. Kira has also served as co-advisor for WUSOP s student NCAP chapter since In this role, she has supervised students in community service efforts including health fairs and medication disposal education as well as in legislative efforts during Pharmacy Day in the Legislature and in letter writing campaigns. Kira continuously encourages students to become more involved in NCAP not only in school -wide events but also in state-wide events, stressing the important role NCAP has in the development of pharmacy in North Carolina. Kira is also a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the National Lipid Association and the American Association of Diabetes Educators. As a North Carolina native, I am invested in the future of pharmacy in this state and recognize the impact NCAP and a unified organization of pharmacists can have on the profession. This is a pivotal time for pharmacy as the role of the pharmacist is growing and changing. I look forward to the opportunity to represent and unite North Carolina pharmacists to advance the profession as a member of the Board of Directors of NCAP.
8 Jenna Minton Huggins, PharmD Jenna attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for both her prepharmacy studies as well as the Doctor of Pharmacy program. She graduated in 2008 and then completed a post-graduate year one residency at the Durham VA Medical Center, concentrating on inpatient medicine and cardiology. She serves on various committees including P&T Committee, Invasive Cardiology Committee, Heart Failure Improvement task force, Cardiovascular Surgery committee, Residency Advisory Committee, Anticoagulation Resource Committee, and Acute Myocardial Infarction readmissions committee. Her research includes projects related to anticoagulation, heart failure, and acute coronary syndrome. In addition to her inpatient responsibilities, she has worked to expand services to the outpatient affiliated clinics at WakeMed. I recognize the importance of involvement in local and national organizations such as NCAP and ASHP and currently serve on the executive committee of the Health-System Practice Forum. I am also a member of the ASHP Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists Section Advisory Group for Clinical Leadership and one of the NCAP state delegates for ASHP. I understand the importance of a unified state organization such as NCAP and will work to ensure all members are engaged to share new ideas for expansion of pharmacy practice and provide a unified voice for the advancement of the profession.
