2 Background Regional Transition Centers were established in 1992 to provide professional development and technical assistance to member district schools, families, agencies, and businesses with regard to the transition of students with disabilities from school to adult life. Housed at the 4 Regional Educational Collaboratives and Providence

9 Program.. Cooperative agreement between Office of Rehabilitation Services (ORS) and the RI Department of Education, RI Regional Transition Centers Five (5) regional RVACs located in the Regional Transition Centers

10 What the program does.. Provides a comprehensive, community-based vocational assessment to ORS eligible high school students Provides recommendations to the IEP team to enhance student s success in the area of employment and post secondary education & training after leaving high school Provides the student with information about their interests, skills, abilities, and aptitudes and gives them individualized options to explore further

11 Youth Served.. Students who have been determined eligible through the Office of Rehabilitation Services criteria Referral to RVAC made by ORS Counselor Target grade level currently juniors but seniors are referred at the discretion of ORS Counselors

12 Outcomes Expected.. Participating students will have a better understanding of occupational requirements Students able to make a more informed decision about future career goals Identification of necessary post-secondary education/training to enter chosen field Recommendations embedded into student s IEP

13 Outcomes continued.. Increased awareness of evaluation process for school districts Provides districts with critical information regarding required transition planning Initiates the planning process with ORS Engaging and relevant for students
