2 To further develop key transferable skills including team-work, communication, management and leadership skills; To provide progression for relevant Foundation Degree students; To further develop a flexible pathway for lifelong learning and the potential for progression at work and professional qualifications within the financial services sector. 10 Intended Learning Outcomes: There are no direct benchmarks relevant to honours level financial services qualification. However, the general business and management benchmarks have been considered in the main, where appropriate. Fully detailed learning outcomes by module are listed in the relevant programme handbook. The programme provides opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding, skills, qualities and other attributes in the following key areas: Knowledge and Understanding Cores A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 A7 A8 A9 Critical evaluation of complex literature, and application of skills of analysis, synthesis and evaluation in the context of selected research areas within a financial services environment Application of theories and ethics to work-based projects and integration of theory and practice to work-related tasks Financial markets, FSA Corporate Governance and management systems in respect of FSA relationship with firms Evaluation of the role of the Ombudsman service Critical evaluation of Financial Services legislation, including national and international impacts Appraisal of wealth management provisions, and relationship management Contemporary issues in wealth management, and global market overviews Concepts of corporate finance; investment appraisals; and risk and return; Decision making and the financial manager, and related moral and social impacts; Options A10 Strategic and marketing development for financial institutions A11 Communication and promotion of financial services and products A12 Social and economic impacts on marketing, and limitations of marketing theories on financial services practice A13 Classical and historical approaches to managerial processes and change and leadership principles within financial service

3 A14 Professionalism vs managerialism, and risk management within financial services Subject specific skills B1 B2 B3 B4 well-developed descriptive and analytic skills; an ability to understand the core theories, concepts and approaches and a clear ability to distinguish between them; a sufficient grasp of research methods and their application to enable them to comment on research evidence; a strong familiarity with a range of research methods and an ability to reflect critically on their use in various research studies. Generic skills C1 problem-solving skills: a strong ability to propose and critically evaluate alternative solutions to practice based problems; C2 data collection and research skills: an ability to retrieve, synthesise and analyse information independently from varied sources; C3 evaluative and analytical skills: an ability to critically assess and summarise arguments, reports, documents and other written and verbal data; C4; communication skills: an ability to develop a strong line of argument both verbally and in writing; an ability to prepare and deliver a well-focused presentation using appropriate technical aids as necessary; C5 self-management of learning; an ability to employ well-developed self-directed study and learning skills, and to organise learning in terms of employing time management skills, and a capacity to work to deadline; C6 teamwork skills: an ability to contribute effectively to successful group work and collective projects; C7 information and communications technology skills: an ability to demonstrate knowledge and application of a wide range of information and communications technology skills; C8 academic conventions: an ability to understand and use a standard referencing system (eg Harvard) and be able to construct a complex bibliography. Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy The learning, teaching and assessment strategies will reflect the requirements of Honours Degrees and will address the needs of the relevant academic infrastructure. The strategies will continue to allow for the transfer of learning between the different units at Honours level and develop those units covered in the Financial Services Fd. It will apply effective pedagogical practices which will continue to explicitly, systematically and effectively allow for the integration of theory and practice.

4 The assessment strategies for this programme of study are reflected in the individual modules. Assessment tasks will continue to be contextualised within the work-place and will engage students in both formative and summative assessment. The Strategy for Work Based Learning The principles of leaning for work, learning through work and learning at work applied in the context of the Foundation Degree will continue to apply to this Honours Level and will provide candidates with effective and rewarding opportunities to develop, practice,critically reflect and improve work-based performance.

5 11 Programme structures and requirements, levels, modules, credits and awards Dissertation (40C - mandatory) Regulation and Compliance (20C mandatory) Wealth Management (20C mandatory) Corporate Finance and Investment (20C mandatory) Marketing of Financial Institutions (20C - option) Management of Organisational Behaviour (20C - option) Synopsis of Modules Dissertation (40 Credits) The focus of this module is on the development of independent learners and the acquisition of Honours level academic, vocational and transferable skills. The main emphasis is on the

6 further development of higher academic and vocational skills of analysis, synthesis, critical evaluation, critical application of conflicting theories to practice, challenging theoretical models and concepts and complex problem solving Regulation & Compliance (20 Credits) This module will examine and explore the number of different compliance and regulation issues regarding financial services. It will seek to identify the main framework areas and how this impacts upon the work of a financial services advisor. The application of FSA rules and other legal regulation will also be examined, together with evaluating links to other financial services industries around the world, including the Middle East and America. Wealth Management (20 Credits) This module will evaluate the meaning of the term Wealth Management and will seek to critically identify the different needs of clients who fall under the bracket of high net-worth clients. Areas such as investment services, financial planning and separate banking facilities will be explored within the context of this module. The opportunity to evaluate Sharia Banking and Ethical Products will also be evaluated. Corporate finance & investment (20 Credits) This module explores a range of issues relating to corporate finance and the role of investment and capital appraisal methods within this sector. The intention is to promote critical analysis of theoretical techniques used when making financial decisions. Links to globalisation will be made throughout the modules in terms of risk and product allocation Marketing of Financial Institutions (20 Credits) This module will examine the role that marketing plays in the delivery of Financial Services. There will be critical analysis of how financial institutions are marketed in line with government regulation and the guidelines imposed by the FSA. The main areas will focus upon successful campaigns and how this has achieved marketability for certain products at different times. The module will allow students to explore the factors which influence marketing of financial products and the role they play in the day to day provision of financial needs of the business. Contemporary links between the theory and practical nature of marketing will also be examined. Management & Organisational Behaviour (20 Credits) Theories and concepts of management will be introduced which are central to the delivery of contemporary financial services. Suggested areas for development will be the role of the manager; managing people, managing knowledge, self management and reflection. The student will gain an increased knowledge of management processes, techniques and

External Examiners will report on whether the standards are set are appropriate with reference to external reference points, including benchmarks, framework for Higher Education Qualifications and other reference points.
