3 Required Nursing Curriculum Students must follow the plan as outlined. Students must earn a grade of C or better in all required nursing courses. Grades of C- or below are considered failures. Students are dismissed after two failures in nursing courses. Only nursing specific courses can be evaluated for transfer of credit to satisfy nursing requirements.

4 Linfield Curriculum Ten general education requirements called the Linfield Curriculum or LC for short. Many requirements were fulfilled as part of student s previous coursework. 3 semester credits are required to fulfill each. LCs are waived for previous bachelor degree holders.

6 LC Requirements Explained INQS, Inquiry Seminar, is fulfilled by the writing prerequisite by all students before they start the nursing program. CS, Creative Studies, are courses that explore creative theory or practice. Typically art, literature, theater or music courses satisfy this requirement. IS, Institutions, Systems and Societies, are courses that examine how members of society organize themselves or how society affects an individual s behavior. IS courses are often found in Sociology, Psychology and Anthropology Departments. The majority of nursing students fulfill this requirement with prerequisite coursework. NW, Natural World, are science courses. Nursing students have this requirement satisfied by prerequisite work. QR, Quantitative Reasoning, are math, statistical, or quantitative research type courses. Most students have this fulfilled by the statistics prerequisite. Further, NURS 320, Scholarship of Nursing, carries the QR designation and will fulfill the requirement. UQ, Ultimate Questions, are courses that focus on analyzing beliefs, cultural practices, and competing truth claims. Typically these courses are in Philosophy, Ethics, or Religious Studies Departments. VP, Vital Past, are history courses. Almost any course in the History Department will count for VP. US, US Pluralisms, courses explore experiences of diverse people living in the United States. To have the US designation the course must look at a diverse cross section of the population rather than focusing on the dominate culture. No one department specifically offers an abundance of US Pluralisms courses. Pluralisms courses are not determined by disciple, but designated because of the populations emphasized in the particular course. GP, Global Pluralisms are courses that focus on a population or culture outside of the US or compares several non- US cultures or populations. These courses are scattered throughout many departments and disciplines.

7 Upper Division Requirement All THREE conditions must be met for a course to fulfill the Upper Division requirement: 1. Not in your major. 2. Numbered 300 or above. 3. Has LC designation of CS, IS, VP, UQ, or NW. (Courses listed with ONLY GP, US, INQS, WI, or MWI will NOT fulfill this requirement.)

8 Paracurricular & Experimental Learning Requirements (EL) 2.67 semester credits (4.00 quarter credits) required. Activity, skills, or sports based courses. Linfield courses are numbered below 100. One course must be a physical activity or dance course. Paracurriculars are waived for previous bachelor s degree holders.

11 Future Registration: Required Nursing Courses Before each term, the Registration Office s students an online survey where they can indicate their schedule preference. Students are ranked for registration through a random lottery system. Registration is then completed using student s individual online schedule preference surveys. Changing section blocks requires finding a student in another section to trade.

12 Future Registration: Elective Courses New students to the Portland Campus may register for elective and general education courses starting on their orientation day. General education and elective courses are added by the student through WebAdvisor. Semester registration dates can be found on the Portland Registration Website.

13 Student Responsibilities Take the initiative to contact and get to know your faculty advisor. Read your daily. Understand graduation requirements. Utilize WebAdvisor, the course catalog, student handbook and college website. Submit official transcripts for transfer credit in a timely manner. Observe academic deadlines. Know when to register and when to drop or add classes. Schedule an appointment with your advisor well in advance of deadlines.

14 Taskstream Online Portfolio An evaluation tool that Linfield faculty use to assess the effectiveness of our general education curriculum. Submissions must be competed in Taskstream for each LC in order to graduate.
