Each school description will tell you about the program as well as how much funding the school gives to the entire organization each year, along with contact information for each school.

2 PACIFIC COAST SECTION Colorado College Colorado Springs, Colorado Mid-Size (5,000-10,000 students) Student contact: Linda Alexander Student Team Description: Our program falls under a club sport skaters are participating. Ice time is free for students and they have access to any freestyle ice time. Our goal is to develop and maintain a figure skating team at CSU and establish excellence in collegiate figure skating. We accept skaters of all levels, including beginners, but would like interested skaters to be aware that we are a competitive team. Our team has been growing over the last few years, and we are hoping to have about 15 skaters this year representing Cal at intercollegiate competitions. The club wants to create an environment where all types of skating enthusiasts can come together and have fun. The goal of the club is to create a group of intercollegiate competitors and a collegiate synchronized skating team. The intercollegiate team is a brand new club sport for the season and is funded by the college. Some fundraising will be required. Bowling Green State University - Bowling Green, Ohio $4,290 Student contact: Amanda Jagow Student ajagow@falcon.bgsu.edu Team Description: The Bowling Green State University Figure Skating program is becoming more developed. We have a recreational club and a competitive team. Although Bowling Green has been known for its synchronized skating, we are developing more into an Intercollegiate team. This past year was very successful, not only individually but for our team as well. Our skaters have placed first in the Collegiate National competitions, and last season placed second for the senior ladies championship. Our teams competed at two events and performed very well against other schools in the area. Our goal is to provide both a club for recreational skaters and a team for competitive skaters. Another purpose of the organization shall be to promote the sport of figure skating and to provide opportunities for those who have skated in the past to continue to skate and compete. Last year, we went through all the hoops to become an official sports club, and this year we are working on paving the way for a successful and fun future. The Pettit National Ice Center is a convenient 15 minutes or less drive from campus, and rides are provided as often as possible to ensure that our skaters get the practice time they need. Most of the practices are on an individual basis. Team skates, group fundraising, and other team building activities allow us to become close friends over the span of the year. The MSU Figure Skating Team is the perfect way to continue skating in college without affecting grades. We began as a synchronized skating club, and hope to one day have both intercollegiate and synchro. Currently, we hold one practice a week, although many skaters also train outside of official practice. We are a small but growing club that hosts a variety of skating events and National/World Championships viewing parties. The team practices twice a week and has various social events including two ice shows and charity functions throughout the year. NDFSC is recognized as a club sport at the University of tre Dame and was named the 2002 tre Dame Athletic Club of the Year. We are a part of the University of Wisconsin Figure Skating Club, which is comprised of the University of Wisconsin Synchronized Skating Team and the University of Wisconsin Individual Team. Our individual team has grown to 14 skaters since our founding in We are proud to be National competitors for three of those four years. We have about six women on the team and they range from Pre-Preliminary to Senior Ladies. The rinks we usually skate at are about 5-15 minutes away from school and we usually try to practice in the mornings. We offer free ice time on campus to both singles skaters and also for our synchronized skating team. Our synchronized team competes at the Open Collegiate level and we also have singles skaters competing at various collegiate competitions. Additionally, we host an exhibition on campus every spring for both our synchronized team and individual skaters. Figure Skating at Boston College is an excellent way for skaters to continue a sport they love while also getting involved with one of the most close-knit groups on campus. Additionally, we hold workshops with our Faculty Adviser for club members, host numerous Open Skate Nights for the campus community, and work with New London-area school children in a volunteer learn to skate program. Practices are held at the Sage Rink on campus, and club members have free access to ice time. Some of us have been skating our entire lives, some of us have started more recently, and some of us are getting back into it after taking a break in high school. Our team is comprised of elite skaters, world and national competitors and beginners. We all share a PASSION for figure skating and our goal is to be able to enjoy the sport in a relaxed, fun, team-oriented environment while putting our academics first! The NYU team offers competitive and recreational opportunities for NYU students practicing freestyle and dance. Competitive track skaters participate in several competitions throughout the year where they compete against other college students. About 15 skaters participate per semester and we invite all levels to take part in our club, whether you are working on your basic skills or are a senior/gold level skater. We practice every Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 pm. We participate in competitions and local shows every year as well. There are roughly 10 girls who skate regularly at our on-campus rink, Schneider Arena. We practice about three times a week for an hour. We have annual Christmas and Spring shows. 21 Sacred Heart University - Fairfield, Conn. The administration is very supportive of the program and encourages skaters to compete and to complete their individual U.S. Figure Skating tests. One team practice a week is scheduled, and after that, skaters train on the rink's daily freestyle sessions by signing in at times that fit into their academic schedules. There is no limit to the number of sessions per week, but three hours is required. Skaters have at least one 30 minute private lesson per week and can request additional lessons, schedules permitting. SHU covers all ice time, competition entry fees and transportation expenses. The team funds very aggressively and uses the funds to cover additional lodging and equipment expenses. Skaters are required to pay dues to cover the gap in fundraising. Our team is very competitive and consistently ranked as one of the top teams in the country! Skaters on the team must pay four sets of dues throughout the year and have their own skates and music. We accept skaters of all levels and skating disciplines and welcome all new skaters who are interested in joining! We have team practice once a week on Thursday mornings, and skaters are expected to practice on their own additionally. Though all skaters can join/become members of the team, skaters must try out for competition starts in order to compete during the season. School funding for the club is split between the two teams and covers the majority of the costs associated with ice rental (at Wells Ice Rink) and competition entry fees. The club has approximately 30 skaters each year. At UMD, we would like to emphasize that school comes first, followed by skating. We would like for the experience to be fun and the rink as a place to get your mind off academic stress. The experience is more important than the results.
