VETERNS Tri-Community dult Education is approved by the State Department of Education to offer classes which enable Veterans to complete a High School Diploma Program. Please call (626) for Veterans information. HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOM dults who do not have a high school diploma are urged to meet with a counselor in order to plan a program to suit their needs. 5 Registration Information REGISTRTION Beginning Monday, March 18, 2013 registration is completed in class at the location where the class is offered. Fee-based classes must have the required minimum number of student registrations as of the first class meeting. Online and walkin preregistration is available for some classes. (See page 23 and back cover.) Registration is completed on a first come, first served basis. Late registrations are accepted if space is available. Preenrollment for the High School Diploma program is highly recommended. 6 Registration Information TEXTBOOKS Textbooks are available for purchase by students registered in Tri-Community dult Education classes. Do not purchase textbooks before class registers. TEXTBOOK FEES RE NON-REFUNDBLE. REGISTRTION and TTENDNCE minimum number of students must be in attendance for a class to be registered. Excessive absences may cause classes to be closed or combined, or individual students to be dropped. CERTIFICTES OF CHIEVEMENT Certificates of chievement are issued to students who satisfactorily complete study in certain academic, business occupations, and vocational subjects. INSURNCE TRI-COMMUNITY DULT EDUCTION DOES NOT PROVIDE STUDENT CCIDENT INSURNCE, nor is it provided for children participating in Parent Education or Child Care activities. MINOR CHILDREN Minor children are NOT allowed in adult education classes except in certain Parent Education and/or Family Literacy classes. SENIOR CITIZENS Students, age 60 and older, pay a registration fee of $2.00 for classes with an asterisk (*), and will pay other fees, where applicable. STUDENT RECORDS The release of students educational records shall be according to the Education Code and state regulations. RIGHT TO PRIVCY ll students are protected by State and Federal laws regarding their right to privacy. DISCRIMINTION PROHIBITED No person shall, on the basis of race, color, ancestry, national origin, gender, marital status, handicap, age, religion, or political beliefs, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination in any education program or activity except as provided for use by law or regulation. HER COMPLINCE ll facilities of the two cooperating districts of Tri-Community dult Education have been inspected for asbestos-containing materials and management plans have been filed with the State of California in compliance with federal SBESTOS HZRD EMERGENCY RESPONSE CT legislation. The plans are available to review at the Districts dministrative Offices. UNIFORM COMPLINT PROCEDURES Uniform Complaint Procedures are available in the office at each of our main centers. 6

7 Child Care CHILD CRE for children of Tri-Community students is available at the following Child Care Centers: GRISWOLD CENTER Monday thru Thursday... 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. PIONEER CENTER Monday thru Friday...8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon fee of $1.00 per child will be charged for each class section. Child Care is a service available only to children of Tri-Community dult Education students. Students attending daytime classes at NY location may take only pre-school-age children to the Child Care Center at Griswold or Pioneer dult Education Centers. BEFORE CHILD CN TTEND CHILD CRE, PROOF OF THE FOLLOWING IMMUNIZTIONS IS REQUIRED: DPT or DT, POLIO, RUBELL, RUBEOL, MUMPS, HEPTITIS B, HIB MENINGITIS and VRICELL. Children must be at least 2 years of age, but not over 5 years of age. ll children must be toilet trained. Child Care services shall not be available for children of parents on field trips. Counseling Services ll students taking courses for high school credit MUST SEE TRI-COMMUNITY COUNSELOR BEFORE TTENDING CLSSES. Students enrolled in a regular high school must have a completed Tri-Community High School Student Referral from their school of residence prior to enrollment. High school students from outside the Covina-Valley and Charter Oak districts may only enroll in an academic class for credit recovery and will be charged a $35 fee for each 5-credit class. High school students may not enroll in fitness or computer classes. They offer assistance with career planning and guidance counseling. variety of tests allow students to explore their vocational interest, aptitudes, personality, intelligence, educational progress, and work values. 8 Testing Services REDING & MTH TESTING SERVICE This service is designed to identify individual achievement in reading and math to aid in the appropriate placement in academic classes. Testing is by appointment only. Call (626) for an appointment. COMPREHENSIVE TEST OF BSIC SKILLS (CTBS) Students enrolled in the Tri-Community dult Education high school diploma program may take these tests for up to 50 elective credits and/or academic credit in Math, English, Science and World History toward their high school diploma. TOEFL PREPRTION Instructor-assisted preparation for college bound, limited-english speaking students who need to pass the TOEFL is offered. variety of pre-testing and preparation materials covering the four areas of reading, listening, speaking and writing are utilized in an individualized setting. TRI-COMMUNITY DULT EDUCTION IS N OFFICIL GED TESTING CENTER The Tests of General Educational Development (GED) can give you the opportunity to earn a high school equivalency diploma a credential recognized as a key to employment opportunities, job advancement, further education, and financial rewards. Tri-Community dult Education administers the GED test Monday through Wednesday at Pioneer Center. The GED test is composed of five sections: Language rts/reading, Language rts/ Writing, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics. Testing on all sections is available on a drop-in basis during the testing hours listed below no appointment is necessary. ll applicants must provide a valid picture identification with current address. The test fee is $130.00, which includes State and National fees. Payment must be cash or money order. Curriculum includes technical skills such as keyboarding (typing), instruction to computers, formatting memos and letters, as well as, job preparation skills: resume writing and interview strategies. Students choose the skill areas they want to study or to enhance their skill sets. The primary focus of this class is to have students acquire the ability to type 45 net wpm, which is the average speed limit for most office jobs. This may require students to attend more than one session depending on their initial typing skills. This course offers students interested in a medical career or career advancement an understanding of the medical language. It will include an in-depth study of medical words and how they relate to the human body as a whole, as well as a comprehensive study of the body systems and how they function. This course meets the academic requirements for Court Reporting and the prerequisite requirement for the Medical Transcription/Editing and Medical Coding 1. We will use the textbook The Language of Medicine by Davi-Ellen Chabner; 9 th Edit/on (ISBN ).
