3 Georgia Tech Office of Undergraduate Education The Georgia Tech Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE), a unit of the Office of the Provost, helps maintain the quality of undergraduate education and promote the academic success of undergraduate students at Georgia Tech. OUE includes: Center for Academic Enrichment (CAE) Center for Academic Success (CAS) Center for Career Discovery and Development (C2D2) Honors Program Center for Academic Enrichment The Center for Academic Enrichment (CAE) fosters student-faculty interaction through a variety of programs, seminars, living-learning communities, and other events in which ideas can be exchanged and new initiatives developed. Fellowships Office The Fellowships Office helps students identify and apply for nationally competitive awards such as Fulbright, Goldwater, Rhodes and many more. These merit-based awards provide funding assistance for undergraduate and graduate study, research in the U.S. and abroad, and other educational enrichment opportunities.

4 First-Year Seminar (GT 1000) GT 1000 is a one-credit, discussion-based seminar offered both fall and spring semesters. Faculty and administrators teach the course, and upperclass peer mentors, known as Team Leaders, assist in facilitating small group interactions. Through the course, students make connections with faculty, administrators, and fellow students while developing interpersonal and academic skills critical to their success at Tech. Project One Project One, formerly the First-Year Reading Program, is an opportunity for the entire incoming class to work together to create a large, community-driven project that exemplifies the interdisciplinary and creative nature of a Georgia Tech education. The common project s online component is unveiled in the early summer and continues throughout the year. Project One is incorporated into some English and GT 1000 classes. ThinkBig A living-learning program, ThinkBig invites students to join a residence hall community centered around a topic of interest to them. Topics have included ATL: The 411 on the 404, Life in Art and the International House. Participating students meet informally once a week in their residence hall with a faculty leader, and each community has an event related to its topic twice a month. Events may consist of field trips, guest speakers, and hands-on activities, with students helping to design program content.

5 This I Believe/Open Forum All Georgia Tech students are invited to write and submit essays about their core beliefs for the biannual This I Believe Essay Contest at Georgia Tech. The This I Believe Speaker Series takes place every other week. During these sessions, one speaker shares a brief essay or speech about a core belief in his or her life and then joins the audience for small group discussions about the speech. Faculty, staff, and students from across campus receive invitations to share a This I Believe speech. Open Forum meets every other week for a one-hour session of topical, thoughtful, intellectual discussion. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to participate. Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) and Student Innovation Undergraduate students who participate in UROP expand and apply knowledge in their major or related fields by conducting research individually with a faculty advisor, in interdisciplinary teams, or in centers of study. Research opportunities are available in all six colleges at Georgia Tech, at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), and through off-campus programs. Two programs that may be of interest to students involved in undergraduate research or innovation at Georgia Tech are the Research Option, a thesis-based program offering a substantial and in-depth research experience culminating in the production of a thesis, and the InVenture Georgia Tech, a faculty-organized student invention competition.

7 Center for Academic Success The Center for Academic Success (CAS) provides students with services to guide them in earning their degree, enhance their study habits, and support them in academic areas in which they desire personal improvement. 1-to-1 Tutoring 1-to-1 Tutoring is a free, appointment-based program offered to all students. Tutoring is available in more than 70 courses, primarily at the 1000 and 2000 levels. All tutors are successful undergraduates who have been trained by Center for Academic Success staff. Academic Advising Coordination Academic advisors are committed to helping students succeed academically and personally. Their purpose is to help students determine what they want to accomplish while at Georgia Tech and what is necessary to achieve their goals.

8 Academic Coaching Academic Coaching allows students to work individually with professional staff members to enhance their academic skills, gain confidence, discover motivations, and improve performance. Academic Coaching students usually schedule a one-hour meeting either once or twice a month. Academic Success Workshops Academic Success Workshops are offered online on topics such as time management, study skills and strategies, exam preparation, and goal setting. Students, faculty, and staff may also request customized workshops for their courses and organizations. GT 2100 Seminar on Academic Success GT 2100 is designed to help students who are experiencing academic difficulties develop and practice strategies for success at Georgia Tech through the application of learning skills, study habits, and time management techniques, leading to academic performance improvement. Peer-Led Undergraduate Study (PLUS) PLUS sessions are designed to help students enrolled in traditionally challenging courses learn in a relaxed, collaborative environment. Participating students review course content, develop

9 learning and study strategies, and prepare for exams. The sessions are regularly scheduled and facilitated by trained peer leaders who successfully completed the course the previous semester. Pre-Health Advising This program assists Georgia Tech students and alumni who have an interest in pursuing careers in health care fields such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physician assistant, optometry, public health, and veterinary medicine. Pre-Health Advising offers one-to-one meetings, as well as workshops, conferences, mock interviews, invited speakers, and other guidance for students of all majors. Reboot Reboot is an academic recovery program for students who are not meeting their own academic expectations. This program gives students an extended opportunity to work with staff members, connect with academic support resources, and participate in programming to achieve academic success. Tech Prep Tech Prep is a non-credit, intensive, residential summer program open to all incoming Georgia Tech freshmen. Participants review fundamental concepts to prepare for Calculus I or II and discover strategies to help them succeed in all their courses. Success Summit The Success Summit helps students, especially those on probation, start the semester with strategies for academic success. This half-day program, held during the first week of classes, provides interactive workshops and panels that promote effective goal-setting, time management, and study skills.

10 Center for Career Discovery and Development The Center for Career Discovery and Development (C2D2) provides resources and programs designed to help students identify meaningful career paths, obtain co-op and internship opportunities while attending Georgia Tech, and pursue full-time employment after graduation. C2D2 connects Georgia Tech students with employers in the Atlanta area, across the United States, and around the world. These employers range from small privately owned enterprises to major multi-national corporations, nonprofit organizations, and governmental agencies. Co-op Program The Co-op Program allows undergraduate students to alternate semesters of on-campus study with at least three semesters of full-time employment, usually with the same employer. Students who successfully complete all requirements of the program earn the Cooperative Plan designation on their diplomas and transcripts. Georgia Tech Internship Program (GTIP) GTIP gives students the opportunity to work full- or part-time internships lasting one or more semesters, with the option of working a single internship with one employer, or multiple internships with one or more employers.

11 Career Development Career Development supports students seeking post-graduation job opportunities by providing resources and programs to help them explore, select, and pursue meaningful careers. Among Career Development offerings are career counseling and career fairs, as well as seminars and workshops on resume writing, interviewing, and other job search skills. Honors Program The Honors Program creates an environment in which students and faculty learn from one another through a common commitment to intellectual inquiry, careful analysis, and the energetic exchange of ideas. The program includes dedicated living-learning residence communities for first-year students; small introductory core courses designed to emphasize both mastery of the material and innovative inquiry and exploration within disciplines; special-topic courses; and informal opportunities for social interaction with faculty members from various disciplines across campus.
