1 DATA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OF ADEN S SUB DIVISION OF ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT Introduction Engineering Data management system is very useful for day to day working as well as to provide at a glance sectional details which are generated through different inspections and which are available in our hand. In the SUB DIVISION of ADEN several permanent features are there and for each permanent feature, many details are available in the different office records. So many details are collected from the field which is required by the higher official for future planning and up gradation etc. Generally there are two types of data available. 1). Static data. 2).Dynamic data STATIC DATA In static data the following are covered. Bridge data, Level Crossing, Points & Crossings, Curve, LWR, SEJ, Track details, Passenger Amenities, Track Diagram, Gradients, Quarter Details with watering arrangements, Railway Affecting works and etc. DYNAMIC DATA Rail fractures, USFD, TRC /OMS, PCE/CE S Items. Necessity.? Need of a tool for field engineers Need for a Tool for Field Engineers to visualize, Plan and prioritize maintenance still remains with the field units who actually decide the deployment of machines and maintenance plan either on the basis of the inspections or track data, It s correlation with the track performance i.e. where needed more, has still not become a reality though lot of such thoughts have been propagated time and again. In Engg Deptt there are several numbers of permanent features like Bridge, Curves, level crossings, Turnouts etc. Each permanent feature has number of Data s which are to be compiled, analyzed and referred during different inspections and rectification of the same As we know that there are number of registers maintained by Engg dept and referring of such data involves searching the data in number of registers. Hence need of the hour is to compile all these data in one place. For easy references and compilations with data management systems we have attempted to make small software which is capable of accessing all the data at one place for easy inspection, analysis and planning for further development. Level Crossing Track Details Curves Bridges Long Welded Rails SEJs Track Diagram Point & Crossing Gradient Rail Affecting Works Quarters & Watering Arrangement Passenger Amenities Detailed information collected from the available records and from the field are compiled in the software and, hard copy in the form of Booklet is distributed to the all concerned officials. This booklet is required to be updated on 1st of April every year. Same booklet are available with THOD s, Sr.DEN/DEN, ADEN and SSE s so that same information are always available with them and their will be no differences.

3 Use of the Track Monitoring Charts and related information: Now a most important question comes to our mind is how the track monitoring charts generated through the software are useful for maintenance engineers? Just a visual inspection of Annexure, we can draw inferences that some of the parameter has gone beyond limit. For example, the moment we look down the chart we find that there is a major bridge of 13 x spans within the blocks, the section is on wooden sleepers of , and the track is fish plated. Now we could have planned a different maintenance strategy rather than attempting tamping as a solution. Development of a Software for Deployment depiction & Planning Small interactive software has been developed which takes care of this hard felt need of the engineers. The program is so designed as to require minimum feeding of data if standard database are available for the particular section of the Railway. It makes use of the standard data formats available on all the Railways for generating Track charts for plotting track features and that of the standard Bridge data as well as Level crossing and Curve data for plotting ground features. CONCLUSION In the present time, the technological development in all fields takes place with extensive use of information technology. Therefore the information now is available is in bulk and in precise form. The only need is to use the information in form which can be easily used by the users. The proposed system of maintenance through this project is an attempt to use the available scattered information related to track maintenance and analyze the same with the help of user friendly and simple software and then present it in the graphical form so that an average user can understand and use it. Besides, it can help the higher managers to take important decisions. Further the
