5 Management Services Provides end-to-end management of mutual insurance companies. The Management Services business delivers a complete outsourced management service covering every aspect of mutual insurance companies operations. These include the management of underwriting and claims, the provision of regulatory and accounting services, as well as corporate governance and company secretarial services. Our Management Services business operates from offices in the UK, Americas and Asia. Signal Mutual, the largest provider of Longshore workers compensation insurance to the US maritime industry. SCALA, which provides workers compensation to the majority of Canada s ship owners. Our knowledge and expertise in insurance company management means we are ideally placed to establish new mutual insurance companies and identify opportunities for new insurance collectives. We are an experienced manager of mutuals and have a proven track record of successfully delivering excellent service to our mutual management and insurance industry clients. Case Study Costa Concordia When the cruise ship Costa Concordia struck a reef off the Italian island of Giglio in January 2012, Charles Taylor s claims team responded immediately. The vessel was entered in the Standard Club, managed by Charles Taylor, which insures the owners third party liabilities. Our claims team acted swiftly to work with the shipowner and local partners to put measures in place to protect the fragile environment, compensate passengers, and appoint salvage experts to remove the wreck. The Standard Club and its reinsurers are meeting the liability insurance costs of this very complex casualty, said Alistair Groom, Head of Management Services, UK and International. As the managers of the Standard Club our role is to minimise further losses and quickly and efficiently settle legitimate claims, while acting in the best interests of the club s member and working with great sensitivity in a situation where people sadly lost their lives. 7 Adjusting Services Focuses on adjusting larger and more complex commercial losses. The Adjusting Services business provides loss adjusting services across four main sectors: aviation, energy, marine and property and casualty, which includes average adjusting for ship owners. We focus primarily on larger and more complex commercial losses arising from major insured incidents and claims. Our Adjusting Services business operates from offices in Europe, Middle East, Americas and Asia. We offer insurers, reinsurers, owners, operators and their professional advisers a comprehensive claims adjusting service. We work in close partnership with all parties to a claim to resolve complex matters in a constructive, professional and technically accurate manner. Loss adjustment: Adjusting claims on behalf of insurers and reinsurers. Average adjusting: Adjusting marine insurance claims with the ability to handle larger general average losses. Claims management: Providing a comprehensive management service following major multi-layer and multi-insurer losses. Damage surveys: Delivering professional analysis of losses by technical experts. Dispute resolution: Resolving complex claim disputes through our qualified mediators and arbitrators. Litigation and legal support: Providing technical guidance and expert testimony in legal disputes. Case Study Canadian Oil Sands Claim An explosion at an oil sands extraction plant in Northern Alberta, Canada caused widespread property damage and resulted in a seven-and-a-half month plant shut-down. This generated one of the largest claims in recent memory with a total impact to insurers in excess of US$1bn. Charles Taylor was appointed to deal with the combined property damage and business interruption claim by London market reinsurers. We created an in-house team of adjusters, engineers, accountants and support staff based in our London, Calgary and Geneva offices supported by external experts. We employed innovative technology to co-ordinate the efforts of the team and to communicate the results with a large market of interested reinsurers. Our innovations were well received by the market, leading to us winning the Claims Team of the Year award at the London Markets Awards and the Cuthbert Heath major loss award at the Insider Honours in 2012: Your performance remains stellar. 9 Insurance Support Services Delivers stand-alone professional and technical services. The Insurance Support Services business offers professional services which enable our clients to select the specific stand-alone services they require, including: outsourced insurance support services, insurance company run-off services, investment management, captive management and specialty risk management. Our Insurance Support Services business operates from offices in the UK, Europe and Americas. Our outsourced Insurance Support Services include: Managed claims service: for both live insurance business and closed insurance books in run-off. Coverholder services: including binder management and audit. Financial reporting service: for Lloyd s syndicates, managing agents and corporate members. Managing general agency services: all the operational and administrative functions to run an MGA. Run-off servicing: for offshore life and non-life insurance companies. Investment management: offering expertise in asset allocation bonds and equity asset management. Alternative risk services: including captive management and niche insurance covers. Case Study Lloyd s Static Claims Charles Taylor has implemented an effective programme to reduce the number of static claims in Lloyd s, helping the market to build upon its reputation for fast and fair claims handling. Static claims are those which have been notified to insurers but no update has been received over a 12 month period. Existing systems intended to address static claims were not effective and the number of static claims, below 100,000 Lloyd s market share, had grown to over 47,000. We were appointed by the Lloyd s Market Association (LMA) to address the problem. We innovated by establishing a dedicated team of specialists and created new systems to effectively handle, track and update static claims. The programme commenced in mid-2011 and by late 2012 we had successfully reduced the number of outstanding claims by volume 56% and value 60%. Charles Taylor plc
