9 PGSB Student Highlights BUSINESS STUDENTS SELECTED FOR GLOBAL SHAPERS HUB ECU Business students and members Taniya Banerjee of ECU Enactus, Taniya Banerjee (MBA) and Dominic Lindsay (Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Business), were recently selected for the World Economic Forum s Western Australian Global Shapers Hub. Since my involvement in Enactus, I have gained so much experience in project management, leadership skills, teamwork, innovation and networking, said Taniya. Speaking on being selected for the Hub, Dominic said This is a great opportunity to work alongside some of WA s top leaders. My involvement with ECU Enactus and the spirit of entrepreneurship at ECU has prepared me to take on this challenge for the benefit of others. ECU s Master of Project Management is well recognised. I wanted to further my university studies in a different field after my business degree and decided to study the Master of Project Management. ECU s course is well recognised and offers extensive knowledge of the industry as well as practical assignments. Studying this program gave me practice at team work and taught me to prioritise, it also enhanced my research skills as well as my report writing, which I use everyday at work. The lecturers are very approachable and responsive and they promote learning through experience sharing, so I was able to learn from classmates as well as my lecturers. The facilities are up to date and modern and I enjoyed going to Mount Lawley. My greatest achievement was to receive the Australian Institute of Project Management Postgraduate Award for 2013 in recognition for my achievements throughout the course. Thanks ECU. Xavier Mamet ECU Master of Project Management graduate STUDENT JOURNEY: BACHELOR DEGREE / GRADUATE DIPLOMA / MBA My journey at ECU began back in 2007 when I started to study my Bachelor of Communications (Public Relations and Advertising). I chose ECU because of its reputation in the field of Advertising as well as the flexibility of the course, which allowed me to select a variety of units to match my interest. I really enjoyed uni life, especially the interaction with other students, the debates, questions and just listening to experienced lecturers sharing their knowledge and expertise. My lecturers were amazing and provided excellent mentoring. I am still in contact with one of my mentors from when I started my Bachelor Degree, whom I still consult for career/ professional advice. After entering the workforce full-time, I realised that I missed learning and wanted to get a better understanding of the business world, so I decided to go back to uni part-time while continuing to work full-time. I thought a Graduate Diploma would be a great introduction to business studies and a perfect complement to my Public Relations and Advertising degree, while adding a valuable qualification to my resume. I chose to return to ECU for my studies because I knew I would get the support I needed to balance my studies in my already busy life. I loved studying business, so much that after completing my Graduate Diploma in 2012, I returned to ECU to complete my MBA. I m so glad I studied my MBA because it is a very challenging course. I have to gain knowledge in all aspects of a business (such as accounting, marketing, finance, economics, etc). The fact that I have been exposed to such areas makes me a very strong candidate in the job market. I am currently working as a Business Development and Marketing Manager for Dash Digital and should finish my MBA later this year. Who knows where my next challenge will take me! My ultimate goal is to become a CEO of a company whose values match mine. I want to help other businesses do well and run a strong corporate social responsibility culture, and most importantly I want to have the financial power to help others in need. ECU has taught me many things, including priority setting and the importance of networking. Indeed, to succeed, a person needs not only the skills and the experience, but also the connections. Looking back on my journey at ECU, I can t believe how much I ve learned! Even though it seemed so hard at first, studying at university is so much fun and one of the best feelings of accomplishment. ECU supported me and helped get to where I am now and where I ll be going in the future. Gabriela Pasqualon ECU Advertising / Public Relations graduate, MBA student 7

ECU has a wonderful culture for learning. Its location is convenient, it has flexibility and fabulous lecturers that mentor your journey. The best aspect of my course was the quality of the learning material and the range of experience shared by my fellow students in class discussion. Classes were always kept interesting and I received excellent feedback and guidance on my assessments which provided an opportunity to improve and add value to future work. The skills and knowledge gained at ECU provided me with a greater sense of maturity on all levels. Within the workplace I can contribute more effectively and cohesively with my team as it has broadened my perspective and provided me with a greater appreciation of other viewpoint on issues. All these ingredients richly contribute to my learning experience. Amy Conti ECU Human Resource Management graduate 15

20 Project Management GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT Duration: Availability: Campus: 1 Year Part-time / On-campus Mount Lawley This course is designed for individuals looking for an introductory exposure to the subject area. Project Management is becoming a core activity in all organisations and increasingly responsible for delivery of the corporate strategy. Project Management is a skill which can be applied in almost any industry across a range of projects including: The skills I acquired while studying project management allowed me to progress my career by giving me different work opportunities. I am originally from Brazil and chose to come to ECU to study project management because of the University s reputation. Learning from lecturers who have worked in the industry provided me with valuable insights. They shared their experiences which I found was more interesting than just learning theory. I enjoyed ECU s multicultural student population and appreciated the welcoming attitudes of the lecturers and students. As an international student, this was very important to me and essential to my success. Because of my engineering background, I was already working for an oil and gas company, however, as soon as I started my project management course, I was able to change my job from working in the supply chain area to the project management area as Operations Coordinator. I find my work quite challenging as I get to coordinate projects within the oil and gas industry, which involves dealing with manufacture plants in Singapore / Malaysia / Norway / Houston, and organising offshore work in Australia. Clarice Pinheiro ECU Master of Project Management graduate y developing a new product or service; y effecting a change in structure, staffing, or style of an organisation; y designing a new motor vehicle; y developing or acquiring a new or modified information system; y constructing a building or facility; y running a campaign for political office; and y implementing a new business procedure or process. Admission Requirements Australian Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) in a discipline other than Project Management or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution; OR equivalent prior learning including at least five years appropriate professional work experience as signed off by the Program Director. COURSE STRUCTURE Requires the completion of 3 units / 60 credit points. REQUIRED UNITS CREDIT POINTS MAN5401 Managing Project Scope and Stakeholders 20 MAN5402 Project Scheduling and Control 20 MAN6302 Managing Project Quality 20 Further Studies Upon successful completion of this degree, it acts as an entry to the Master of Project Management and is equivalent to the first semester of that degree.
