1 Quivira 4.1 Private Use Area The Private Use Area consists of 6,400 Codepoints which will never be assigned to any characters in the Unicode Standard. They are meant to be used for own characters in individual fonts. The character names used in this documents are own inventions and not standardised in any way. The regular names of these characters according to Unicode are PRIVATE USE CHARACTER- followed by the codepoint of each character, i.e. they range from PRIVATE USE CHARACTER-E000 to PRIVATE USE CHARACTER-F8FF. Accordingly, the blocks and their names are also self-invented. These names always start with Private Use Area: to make sure that they can never collide with a real Unicode block. The assignments are mostly stable, but characters may occasionally be removed from the Private Use Area if they are defined in an official Unicode block. In this case they are marked as undefined in this document, with a reference to the new codepoint. Characters written in red are new in Quivira 4.1. For a complete overview of all characters in Quivira see Quivira.pdf; for meanings and usage of characters in other blocks see Private Use Area: Playing Card Symbols 0E000 0E00F 16 characters since version 3.5 0E BLACK SPADE SUIT WHITE HEART SUIT WHITE DIAMOND SUIT BLACK CLUB SUIT WHITE SPADE SUIT BLACK HEART SUIT BLACK DIAMOND SUIT WHITE CLUB SUIT 0E000 German Playing Card Symbol Acorns Eichel in German 0E001 German Playing Card Symbol Leaves Grün or Blatt in German 0E002 German Playing Card Symbol Hearts Rot or Herz in German 0E003 German Playing Card Symbol Bells Schellen in German 0E004 Swiss Playing Card Symbol Shields Schilten in Swiss German 0E005 Swiss Playing Card Symbol Roses Rosen in Swiss German 0E006 Spanish Playing Card Symbol Clubs Bastos in Spanish, Bastoni in Italian 0E007 Spanish Playing Card Symbol Swords Espadas in Spanish, Espade in Italian 0E008 Spanish Playing Card Symbol Cups Copas in Spanish, Coppe in Italian 0E009 Spanish Playing Card Symbol Coins Oros in Spanish, Denari in Italian 0E00A Black Joker Symbol 0E00B White Joker Symbol 0E00C Mahjong Suit Characters 0E00D Mahjong Suit Bamboo 0E00E Mahjong Suit Circles 0E00F Empty Playing Card

2 Private Use Area: Chess Symbols Supplement 0E010 0E04F 64 characters since version 1.6 0E01 0E02 0E03 0E04 These characters represent pieces used in variants of chess, namely Xiangqi (Chinese chess), Janggi (Korean chess), Shatranj, Tamerlane Chess and Japanese Shogi. All characters are western-styled to match those in the Miscellanous Symbols block, although variants using ideographs are more common in East Asia.
