Making use of Secure Sharing Data and working collaboratively securely in health and social care Paul Bourke-Cockerill - 13 th August 2014
Background Secure can transform how organisations share and work collaboratively Examples of good practice within the NHS already in evidence using NHSmail Scope: anyone delivering health and social care that needs to share data and work collaboratively with other professionals 2
What is secure ? New secure standard published (Feb 2014) ISB 1596 All organisations delivering health and social care services expected to meet this standard by June 2016 NHSmail already meets this standard and has supplied secure to the NHS for over 10 years Organisations can meet the standard by using NHSmail or an existing service meeting ISB 1596 or uplift local service to meet the standard 3
What makes a secure service? Technical requirement messaging is encrypted, data centres are secure and in the UK, admin procedures and processes are appropriate to the ISB 1596 standard. (This replaces the old IL3 security classification) Organisational requirement Users in the organisation must know how to use secure and have policies and procedures in place to understand the boundaries of secure and to use the service safely and securely 4
Benefits of a secure service Data can be ed to other recipients on secure includes patient and confidential data can replace other processes based on paper forms and fax Shared mailboxes can operate over organisational boundaries more on this Address book of users Automating process routine data reports such as discharge notes, review notes and patient/service user referrals Secure used to connect to other organisations outside of health and social care more next.. 5
Benefits of a secure service can extend to other secure domains:.cjsm.net (Criminal and Justice).gcsx.gov.uk (Local Government/Social Services).gse.gov.uk (Central Government).gsi.gov.uk (Central Government including Department of Health).gsx.gov.uk (Central Government).nhs.net (NHSmail).pnn.police.uk (Police).scn.gov.uk (Criminal and Justice).mod.uk (Military) 6
NHSmail - collaborative working examples nhs.net to nhs.net messaging nhs.net to other secure domain accounts - gsi, gcsx, Shared mailboxes within organisations eg GP Practice mailbox, Hospital specialty mailbox Shared mailboxes across organisations MDT mailbox with access to GPs, Surgeon, oncologist, radiologist, community teams 7
Who can replicate good practice? gcsx to nhs.net secure messaging Access to NHSmail? Shared mailboxes across organisations Local authority, Acute Hospitals, Primary Care, Mental Health Trusts, Community Care, Community homes, Community Interest Company, Hospices, Out of Hours, Walk-in centres, Support groups, National services, Independent Healthcare groups 8
