7 Attachment 4 Statement of the Faculty Secretary This new Major in Business Information Systems is the forerunner of the Faculty s movement into the area of Business Information Systems. Such positioning is perceived by the Faculty as important in maintaining balance and currency in the undergraduate degrees of Bachelor of Economics, Bachelor of Commerce, and Bachelor of Commerce (Liberal Studies). It is in keeping with practice at other Australian universities where Business Information Systems is included in the curriculum of business studies degrees (such as the University of Melbourne, University of NSW, University of Queensland, Macquarie University, UTS, and QUT). An understanding of business information systems will improve the basic understanding of Commerce, something that is perceived by employers as being critical. It complements the Faculty s other undergraduate offerings. The Faculty s emphasis is on Business Information Systems as it relates to the commercial environment. This contrasts with the more technical emphasis of the delivery of this subject area in the Faculty of Engineering.

8 Attachment 5 Statement on the extent to which the course addresses the generic attributes of graduates of The University of Sydney All units of study in this degree are taught with a recognition of the need to inculcate generic skills, such as communication (oral and written) and critical and analytical skills. This is achieved through a mix of normal lecture and case materials and follow up assignments. These skills are augmented by integrating recent technological developments in business, namely ERP systems software. All units will require students to be familiar with such technology, further enhancing their understanding of a modern business environment.

9 Attachment 6 Draft Senate Resolutions No changes are required to Senate resolutions, which refer in general terms to subjects listed in Table A. By including Business Information Systems in Table A, it will become available as a Major.
