Summary of the broad purpose of the position in relation to the organisation's goals: In the course of fulfilling the role the Nurse Education Facilitator (Statewide Cardiology Project Nurse) Level 3, is responsible for fostering a collaborative approach to Cardiology Nurse education and the generation of outcomes guided by the Cardiology Clinical Network Steering Committee Initiatives. Nurses at this level, use their clinical knowledge, networks and experience to map specific Cardiology workforce requirements in collaboration with clinicians and in consideration of service delineation and metropolitan and rural infrastructure. The Project Nurse will require a sound understanding of statewide education and development opportunities for all levels of Nurse, and insight into the future statewide education and development requirements in line with the SA Health Plan and Cardiology Clinical Network Recommendations. The Nurse Education Facilitator (Statewide Cardiology Project Nurse) will articulate a contemporary program for nurse education to provide for the patient care needs across the continuum of care. This will be done in collaboration with a range of education providers and clinicians in both metropolitan and country areas. Page 1 of 5

2 2. Reporting/Working Relationships (to whom the person reports, staff for whom the person is responsible and other significant connections and working relationships within the organisation). The Nurse Education Facilitator (Statewide Cardiology Project Nurse) Will operationally report to the Nursing Director, Nursing and Midwifery Education and seek professional support through Nursing Director, Medicine and Medical Imaging, Lyell McEwin Hospital. Provides bi-monthly report to the Statewide Cardiology Clinical Network Steering Committee through the Statewide Cardiology Network Nursing Lead. Maintains close collaborative working relationships with Cardiology Clinical leads across the North of South Australia Maintains cooperative and productive working relationships with the relevant Education Providers throughout South Australia Supports and works collaboratively with nursing staff in a variety of settings to ascertain needs at the clinical level required for patient care Establishes networks/partnerships with educational centres. 3. Special Conditions. (such as non-metropolitan location, travel requirements, etc) The appointee will be subject to a Criminal History Check prior to confirmation of appointment The incumbent may be required to enter into a performance agreement for the achievement of (specific or service or program) outcomes The incumbent must comply with the Principles of the code of Fair Information Practice adopted by the Department of Health which regulate the collection, use, disclosure, storage and transfer of all personal patient/client information within the Department and throughout its funded service providers SA Health facilities are smoke free environments May be required to work at any site within the Central Northern Adelaide Health Service metropolitan and country health units across the Northern Region of the state. Hours and conditions as per contract Some out of hours work may be required Drivers licence and some Intrastate travel will be required 4. Statement of Key Outcomes and Activities (group into major areas of responsibility/activity and list in descending order of importance - continue on next page) 4.1 Ensuring the provision of professional high quality continuing nursing education services aimed at improving nursing staff knowledge, commitment and nursing practice by; Scoping the educational availability for Nurse health care providers across the Northern Regions of the state Scoping the educational requirements for Nurses to provide best practice care specific to site and in line with the SA Health plan service delineations Collaborating with Internal and External providers to articulate a contemporary collaborative program for nurse education Contributing to the promulgation of information regarding current developments in nursing Linking with external Education Providers and other health facilities Contributing to workforce redesign to meet the patient needs in the Cardiology setting Contributing to the review and management of education/training programs to ensure the achievement of outcome standards and key performance indicators Providing education support for change processes, risk management practices and service improvement activities Page 2 of 5

3 Contributing to capability development requirements identified within performance development and succession planning activities Contributing to competency improvement requirements identified with performance management activities Maintaining productive working relationships and manage conflict resolution 4.2 Contributes to the achievement of nursing best practice and facilitating the development and application of relevant nursing research by; Integrating contemporary information and research evidence with personal experience to support the decision making, innovative thinking and objective analysis that are expected at this level Assessing nurse educational opportunities in cardiology, and contributing to the availability of education commensurate to the needs of contemporary Cardiology Nursing Undertaking or oversee short term clinical and/or education research projects where faesible 4.3 Contributes to the achievement of professional expertise through the maintenance of ongoing personal professional development/continuing education by; Developing a contemporary professional practice portfolio containing evidence of learning and practice experience. Demonstrable application of knowledge and skills commensurate with the level and type of practice expected of the role 4.4 Occupational Health Safety and Welfare and Code of Fair Information As an employee of this organisation, it is a requirement to follow defined OHS&W policies and procedures related to the work being undertaken in order to ensure own safety and that of others in the work place Contributing to the promotion of nursing and the hospital by establishing external networks and participating in nursing and corporate promotional activities Follow workplace OH&S policies and procedures when performing tasks making proper use of all safeguards, safety devices and personal protective equipment (as required in undertaking the duties of the position) Attend mandatory safety training programs and maintain effective work practices Investigate and follow-up reported hazards, accidents, incidents, injuries and unsafe work practices. Complying with the Principles of the Code of Fair Information Practice, adopted by the Department of Health, which regulate the collection, use, disclosure, storage and transfer of all patient, staff and / or hospital operations information within the Health Service Practise safe working procedures by complying with health and safety policies, procedures and direction from line management Participate in safety audits and the documentation / reporting of unsafe work practices. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Those characteristics considered absolutely necessary) PLEASE NOTE: It is recommended that a Maximum of 15 criteria only (in total) be included in this section (ie the number of Essential and Desirable criteria combined should not exceed 15). Educational/Vocational Qualifications (include only those listed in Commissioner s Standard 2, Attachment C as an essential qualification for the specified classification group) Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of South Australia and holds a current practicing certificate. Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills: (related to the job description and expressed in a way which allows objective assessment): Effective leadership skills including highly developed skills in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation Demonstrated ability to foster productive networks within the community of South Australia to support the role High level skills in the use of information technology Ability to prioritise workload and meet set timelines Ability to be creative, innovative and flexible when approaching issues within the healthcare setting Ability to develop, coordinate and deliver education programs and conduct appropriate evaluations of the programs Demonstrated ability in the facilitation of change management Demonstrated ability to foster a workplace environment that develops staff potential Experience Registered Nurse with at least 3 years post registration experience in a Cardiac Nursing Environment. Knowledge Understanding of the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Practice Act, 2008, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) National Competencies for the Registered and Enrolled Nurse and Midwifes in Recommended Domains and the ANMC Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses/Midwifes in Australia (2003) and the Commissioner for Public Employment Code of Conduct for Public Employees. Knowledge and understanding of legislative responsibilities for OHS&W, Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation and Equal Opportunity.
